Tomorrow's referee on 14:45 - Sep 30 with 909 views | DannyPaddox | Good luck to Mr. Ricardo and welcome to Loftus Road. Token pre-amble out the way now time for my rant. The way matches are managed nowadays is changing the game from a free-flowing dynamic sport to a series of stand-alone set-pieces. Due mainly to the amount of faffing around referees do before they allow free-kicks, corners, throw-ins, goal-kicks etc to be taken. These perfectionist officiating control-freaks are messing up the beautiful game. Just fcuking get on with it. Maybe a stretch but I wonder does this make better viewing for the most important element of the modern game - the armchair viewer. Do the over long refereeing prevarications at every set piece give the commentator more time to prattle on building up some kind of affected suspense and tension. Ending on a positive note I saw Ricardo ref the Whitstable Final at Wembley the other year and can remember him doing a good job. Good luck with your Loftus Road debut.

The video I've included there with him mic'd up during a Port Vale game was alarming, for me. Not because of how he was refereeing, but just the amount of absolute, total bollocks is being talked in their ear all the time about which phase they're in and who's where and whether we've reset. IMO that cannot possibly be helpful. How on earth are you meant to concentrate and make calm, rational decisions in realtime at high speed while there are four people in your ear babbling on about "NEW PHASE NEW PHASE, reset, 8 is off 8 is off, not for me, DOGSO DOGSO DOGSO, RESET"? I'd recommend watching it. I refereed to a reasonable level, I couldn't believe that's how it is now. Fcking ridiculous.
