After a brilliant, almost faultless first half I would have given every player a score of 8 or 9. Apart from the goal we let in everything worked. Chrissy's goal was of course brilliant, but the midfield three controlled the game, the defence was strong and Dykes managed a few good flick ons. But a game of, err, two halves. It was obvious that we couldn't expect that scintillating form to continue and Wilder is too good a manager not to shake things up. But even so it was very disappointing just how timid we became. The midfield were bypassed, the Boro wing backs were on song and the goals seemed inevitable. In the end it is to Rangers credit that they only conceded the one goal, the assistant referee ruling out another and putting his flag to good use to end a couple of other dangerous attacks. We still managed to create a couple of chances on the break Albert shooting a foot wide and a Dykes effort deflected over the bar. But for a long time it was one way traffic until somehow we became a bit more composed in defence and Boro started to run out of ideas. I thought Beale could have made his substitutions earlier as it was obvious we needed energy and poor Willock must have been totally knackered. In the end Albert holding the ball in the corner and Bonne drawing the red card clinched it for us. Hard to pick a MotM. Probably between Willock and Dickie. I thought Dykes had a good game, but things not quite coming off for Ilias at the moment, but he never hides and I'm sure it will come good soon. | |
