Rowett Gone
at 06:01 23 May 2018

So, Gazza has gone to try his luck at Stoke. My guess is he was probably afraid of getting the sack after an ultimately lackluster season, so jumped before he could be pushed.

It is promising to be an interesting summer, after all.

Boro Game A Must Win For Rams
at 03:58 20 Apr 2018

I thought the Sunderland home match was a must win. I thought the Burton away match was a must win. But if we lose to Boro on Saturday, I really think our playoff hopes might be over for this season.

Johnny Russell

I never thought I would find myself saying this, but the Rams are missing Johnny Russell. Anya is no sort of a replacement, and Lawrence is a disappointment so far.

January Window: the Rams' Moves So Far
at 05:57 8 Jan 2017

The first week has seen defensive midfielder Julien De Sart arrive on loan from Middlesboro for the rest of the season.

Credible reports suggest we had an offer for Henri Lansbury turned down by Forest. This suggests that Steve Mac is not impressed by his midfield options, despite having plenty of players.

First out of the door is Lee Grant making his move to Stoke permanent, for 1.3 million.

Rams Need Firepower in January Window
at 19:43 1 Jan 2017

Its looking in recent matches as though other teams have sussed out our over-reliance on Tom Ince for scoring goals. Since Bent, Vydra, Russell, Weimann, Butterfield and Hughes don't look like scoring, we made need to bring someone in .

Paging Mr Weimann!
at 05:19 23 Dec 2016

What will happen if neither Bent nor Vydra starts scoring goals soon? We have to have more goals from that position. Does Weimann get a run out in what is supposedly his best position? Or Blackman?

Neither look like good options, but something might have to be done.

Some Thoughts on the Forest Match
at 18:32 12 Dec 2016

First, a wonderful performance, and into the playoff places. Well done to all... or almost all.

Could the Rams have done even better last season, if we realized what a player we had in Alex Pearce?

I've never been a big fan of Jacob Butterfield, but he played really well.

So did Chris Baird.

And Will Hughes.

A couple of surprises. First, that Forest did not have a player sent off. That seemed to be their early ambition. Second, that Johnny Russell made it through 90 minutes without being subbed. He was atrocious, and needs to take a look at himself. If the Rams are to continue onwards and upwards, Johnny will need replacing.

But not with Weimann. With Russell, Weimann and Vydra on late, our attack disappeared and conceded too much possession to Forest. We can't do that against better teams.

Could it be Time For Charles Vernam?
at 04:55 23 Oct 2016

Vernam has scored quite a few for the under 23s this season. Given the problems the first has scoring, could it be time for a look at Vernam? Vernam is 20, so not just a kid any more.

If this is to be a rebuilding season for the Rams, as is looking increasingly likely, then the club should be taking a look at the likes of Vernam and Rawson, as well as Max Lowe.

What Does The Future Hold For Jason Shackell?
at 04:43 23 Oct 2016

Alex Pearce has done well since stepping in for Shackell; one of the few who has. Shackell has just turned 33. But he has another season left on his contract after this one. And he must be making a lot of money. Barring injury to one of the current central defenders, its hard to see Shackell has much future with the Rams. Will we try to move him on in January?

Rams at Burton: Could it Get Any Worse?

No leadership, no passion, no desire, no speed, no guile, no inventiveness. Nigel Pearson really looks to have his work cut out in the games ahead. Perhaps the international break will help.

Outgoing Transfers: Rams Lightening The Load A Bit
at 17:45 3 Jul 2016

With Ryan Shotton joining Birmingham on a permanent deal, and Kwame Thomas going to Coventry the Rams are reducing the wage bill just a bit. The enduring question regarding Shotton will be why the Rams ever signed him in the first place.

I'm hoping we might see a few more going, whether on loan or permanent transfers.

Incoming Transfers: All Quiet So Far

I didn't expect many arrivals this summer, but pre-season begins soon and so far - nothing!

Perhaps the new manager needs to spend a bit of time assessing his squad?

The Playoffs Are Coming Into Focus
at 22:04 17 Apr 2016

Its looking almost certain that the Rams will make the playoffs, following the win at Charlton. Our most likely spot to finish looks like either 4th or 5th. Either way, the most likely playoff opponents look to be Hull. The big issue to be decided is whether the first leg will be at their place or ours.

What Is Happening With Abdoul Camara?
at 03:58 29 Mar 2016

He looked like a player with quite a bit of talent that the Rams could use when he first signed: speed, getting to the byline, crossing. He has not appeared since Wassall took charge, and now is not on the bench.

Any ideas?

Wll The Rotherham Match Bring Action?
at 19:41 12 Mar 2016

The Forest match would be a tough introduction for a new manager, but I have to think we might see something happening following the Rotherham shambles. Morris and Rush surely have to demonstrate that this is not good enough.

Who Will The Rams Manager/Head Coach Be?
at 03:37 3 Mar 2016

Talk on the new man seems to have gone a bit quiet.

Will Wassall stay until the end of the season? Will he get the job permanently?

I say we will go for the anti-Clement: somebody British-based, with experience playing and managing at a decent level, and who has achieved a bit of success.

Who will it be? Unfortunately I have no idea, that's why I'm asking for suggestions. I still think Pearson could be a strong candidate, though Morris and Rush may not fancy working with him.

Putting Things In Perspective
at 16:28 24 Jan 2016

This weekend's home defeat for Boro at the hands of Forest puts into perspective the Rams' defeat at the Riverside a short time ago. It shows what can be achieved with discipline and hard work. This is a lesson I hope the Rams absorb for the trip to Burnley.

The Latest Next Six Matches
at 06:14 23 Jan 2016

The Rams next six matches, excluding the Cup are:

25th Jan Burnley (A) — Burnley are currently 4th, have lost 2 out of 13 at home
2nd Feb Preston (H) — Preston are currently 13th, have lost 5 out of 13 away
6th Feb Fulham (A) — Fulham are currently 19th, and have lost 5 out of 13 at home
13th Feb M K Dons (H) — Dons are currently 20th, and have lost 8 out of 13 away
20th Feb Brentford (A) — Brentford are lying 11th, and have lost 6 out of 14 at home
23rd Feb Blackburn (H) — Blackburn are 18th and have lost 6 out of 13 away

Is it too much to hope for five wins and a draw; 16 points out of 18? It will take something like that to return us to the top two.
