Would be very surprised if we got anywhere near 3000 home fans on Wednesday even if we win 5-0 at Carlisle. Would be happy with 2500, and even having over 2000 against Solihull was pretty good. Midweek attendances have rarely been on a level we’d want. Back in November 2016 we played Walsall at home on a Tuesday after beating Swindon 4-0 at Spotland three days earlier. We won 4-0 again. That took us into the L1 play-off places. The crowd, somewhat appropriately, was 1907. [Post edited 26 Sep 12:23]

It was often said, quite rightly, on here how the impact home form (results/goals/entertainment) is an important factor in bringing in crowds. Since the beginning of the 23/24 season, our league record at Spotland: 51 games. W27, D12, L12 : 93 points 93 goals have been scored in those games. So that’s one issue sorted. It’s now up to the club, organisations like the Trust and the CAB to look at doing more. Presumably all those involved are able to influence that and bring ideas to the table that will make a difference. [Post edited 26 Sep 11:19]

McNulty’s additions, on and off the field, are another illustration of how the idea to evolve over time has proven a productive path. There will be bumps in the road, but the infrastructure is in place to be successful and it’s taken time. |

Some might have said it after bad results. Some didn’t. Some were constructively critical and could identify his flaws irrespective of results. It’s at every club ever. Not sure what your point is. But what isn’t at every club ever is doing very little to save your football club whilst celebrating undeserved success. That's a special time of “biz”. |

Having better options up front has made us better against that - Dieseruvwe and Amantchi (and Bird last season) immediately makes us more effective I think. Teams struggle however they set up because we can put crosses in that’ll cause problems or we can go long knowing it’ll be held up. Or we can pass the ball about scoring the kinds of goals Mitchell would finish last season. We must be very hard to plan against now. |

Kitching is now playing as a LCB, York fans seem impressed with him in that role. John was very in and out. Carlisle fans openly questioning Hughes after as well. Suppose it’s an understandable reaction to a heavy defeat but then again he was probably the messiah after their Linney-inspired recent run. |

Yeah, total credit to us. Every player was on top form and got it right almost all of the time in that opening 20. Sometimes they won’t, but it obviously isn’t for the lack of trying and at least we know they’re good enough to win games when not at their best too. That all said, Solihull’s manager got it so badly wrong it was very admirable to see him doing something about being tactically out-thought before kick off. |

It was a really bad opening to the game for them, which was magnified by the change in formation after our third. We are obviously looking to play our own game, as always. And when we come up with unique adjustments to make that even more effective (the role of East) coupled with an opposition that get it so badly wrong, we are even harder to stop. Sometimes the opposition defend better and there will be games when we struggle initially and we might have to dig in - that’s when the mentality is important as players don’t always play well. But when they are playing well, finding passes quickly and effectively they are a step above most at this level. |

If the manager/players want a kit with white shorts and white socks, that should be factored in when choosing the kits. We had it four seasons ago. This year our home kit is all blue. There is minimal black in the kit. We should wear our home kit at home. For years we have messed about with our designated home kit in home games. That’s what is wrong. |

That game was won by tactically acumen within the first 20 minutes. Utilising East so far forwards and almost leaving Gilmour on his own in the centre of the park left Solihull chasing shadows and we really could have been 5 up by the time we got the third. It might have come way to late to get anything from the game, but it forced their manager to change their formation before they kicked off again and it allowed them to at least sit in and absorb the pressure better. Thought they were quite effective on the counter at times too, they’ll get points against the top teams this season, as seen on Saturday. A comprehensive, professional, ruthless win. Only negative was the needless Gordon yellow for getting involved unnecessarily. He’s done that before and need to cut it out. |

I think yesterday may end up being a blessing in disguise. As you say, there’s no way the game would have been completed in that weather, even if the pitch was like the MCG square on Boxing Day when the covers came off. A postponement this early when the pitch is still “good” and some decent weather forecast for the week ahead allows a proper investigation and lessons to be learnt. Rather now than in December after months of games and little in the way of help from the weather. |

Not sure where any of that is being disputed. Do the covers stop rain from impacting the surface? Could they have been used better to ensure the pitch was dry before they were removed? Those questions follow on from this: https://rochdaleafc.co.uk/summerupdatecameronogden110625/ “ Our best chance of mitigating that risk is to avoid water entering the pitch in the first place.” “ This season, we intend to have a strict regime in place to fully cover the pitch whenever there is material rainfall and to minimise the times before and after a game (and before and after rugby games) when it is uncovered in the wet.” Irrespective of any postponement, one which we all know would have happened with this weather as soon as the pitch was uncovered (see the fears earlier in the thread around this), those questions need to be answered and communicated. Because if they aren’t, there will be doubts around any game when any amount of rain is forecast. |

That communication and commitment to putting supporters first has been poor at best for decades. This has gone on since there were Dale forums when the internet became a thing. It’s not even difficult to pick holes in the explanations because they do not think things through properly. That said, there have been a series of excellent, transparent communications from the Ogdens since they’ve arrived. We await and expect another now. |

Sorry but nobody is disputing the problems with the pitch. It is not answering the obvious question, the pitch cover sized elephant in the room that exists irrespective of how bad the weather is or how poor the pitch is: Do the covers keep a pitch dry or not? |
 | Forum Reply | Rochdale v Southend United - Game Off! at 17:44 20 Sep 2025
Totally agree. It wouldn’t have finished (or started after the covers were taken off) But with the pitch covered, how did the following occur: “ the high amount of rainfall this morning has resulted in areas of the pitch becoming waterlogged” For future games, that needs investigating and explaining. |

It was mentioned in this thread a couple of days ago as soon when there was heavy rain forecast. Plenty of games have suffered today because of the weather, if anything the later kick off has done us a favour by bringing this issue to the fore so early in the season. Again, irrespective of the chances of completing a game in bad weather: do the covers prevent water from reaching the surface of the pitch or not? Once that’s answered, we can move onto other problems. |
 | Forum Reply | TVOS Preview - Rochdale v Southend United at 17:11 20 Sep 2025
Missing the point completely. Do the pitch covers work or not? If not, why not? We can all see why the game wouldn’t have been played, it’s been mentioned in this thread already. But do the covers keep water off the pitch before any pitch inspection? |
