Think they take on board and are aware of all persprctives, as posted elsewhere, there was recognition in the statement about fan concerns. This part said a lot: “The Club and the team have no automatic right to receive your unwavering support and robust feedback when things don’t go well is rightfully part and parcel of football” [Post edited 15 Apr 16:13]

There’s a lot of similar football being played across different divisions where fans are as frustrated as we are. It has to and will change. Only a question of when. Sometimes it’s difficult to find small positives, but the significant change in approach on Saturday was one. Failing to recognise that after a really good win would be disingenuous. My own frustration is that I don’t expect that change to continue but hope to be wrong. |

The other factors were acknowledged under the figures. Posting stats alone would have been without that context. |

Those who recognise that there are some poor teams in this league are different to “looking down on the league”, and it’s good that has been called out. We are where we are because of our own failings over the years. Thinking we’re better than playing at this level should remain an attitude exclusive to those six miles down the A627m |

The word “context” was one used by a Dale fan of many years on Saturday. The poor performances have also been noted. There’s been an argument that we have had a bad home record for a number of years now and that we don’t score enough in games at Spotland. With the context not being ignored, that argument is no longer true. |

Which is why there was specific mention of context. |

When it comes to winning at Spotland and scoring goals it’s worth looking at our home form from Keith Hill’s first full season to present: L2 07/08 37 points (37 goals) 08/09 39 (40) 09/10 45 (45) L1 10/11 35 (36) 11/12 26 (30) L2 12/13 32 (33) 13/14 48 (42) L1 14/15 36 (36) 15/16 42 (41) 16/17 46 (48) 17/18 30 (24) 18/19 28 (25) 19/20 19 (19) only 16 home games due to Covid. 20/21 21 (27) L2 21/22 32 (28) 22/23 20 (29) NL 23/24 35 (37) 24/25 39 (38) after 21 games. So we are currently on track to have the 5th best home campaign in that period in terms of points gained. There are, at the moment, five other seasons where we have scored more than the 39 goals we currently have with two more games still to play. A very astute observer correctly pointed out there is a lot of context to where we stand in the table; there’s no dispute that this also applies with respect to stats like these. Nobody will argue that we have indeed seen a lot of games at Spotland that have been a hard watch and the away form has been undeniably poor in 2025. However, in a sport where results matter, they so frequently determine mood of course, and where many rightly point to goalscoring being the number one priority, this current team is doing quite well at home. Would prefer Kidderminster to win the league and Chorley the playoffs. |

It certainly wasn’t this afternoon. The way we utilised the keeper today was the biggest tactical shift of a season that hasn’t seen enough of that. We had both TAR and Allarakhia playing the Vincenti role from Barrett’s kicks at various times. It was so refreshing to see. It also helps with EEL in the side as he doesn’t suit passing about at the back and he is good at spotting balls into the forwards. The training ground might have been an interesting place these last few days. We can only hope they’re looking to perfect it further ahead of Friday rather than revert back to predictability. The interviews will remain completely pointless unless there’s an independent interviewer asking questions. Last season there seemed to be other press present more with a variety of questions. The questions that contain answers approach is doing nothing to give fans a better appreciation of their football club. |

We counted 12 away fans from the Sandy. But I believe there was one more than that. |

It was good too see recognition in Cameron Ogden’s statement about fan concerns. This part said a lot: “The Club and the team have no automatic right to receive your unwavering support and robust feedback when things don’t go well is rightfully part and parcel of football” They are fully aware. Now there appears to be an issue around these bans, so hopefully that is sorted and those who weren’t on the pitch or part of the trouble aren’t impacted - that has to be a priority. Allied to that, and it’s much easier to say after a comprehensive win playing direct, attacking football, there was also an obvious plea within the same statement from CO about everyone coming together for the final few games. We’ve seen a lot worse periods at this club yet, as bad as this season has been at times, it still could be a real opportunity to gain some success. We don’t see too much of that as Dale fans, so playing a part in helping to achieve it is the message about the bigger picture right now. Altrincham and next Monday might be disasters again. Then again, they might not be. If they are, the criticism will be justified. If they’re not, it might be quite enjoyable to witness. Because today was. |

Another feature of his play is he’s not afraid to hook the ball on when required. There was a lot more simplicity in how we performed today, the EEL point being a further example. |

Good win against a poor Eastleigh side. A noticeable change in tactical approach as well. The keeper probably kicked it long more today than the rest of the season combined. Something had to change, and today it did. Of course, it’s whether it’s now how we’ll play going forward. Edwards makes a real difference in midfield. So confident in his own ability. |

After watching that interview, I think Henderson himself realises he’s still fit enough and more than good enough for this team. Who knows, maybe he’ll want to extend his career having seen that the last few weeks. |

We know the answer to that question. They’ve always needed more football experience and it’s not even a recent thing, we can go back to after Russ Green and Dunphy left. There are some interesting lines in that article that sometimes make it better not to automatically make a prediction about what will happen next season. |

Would agree with a lot of that analysis but if we were to capitulate (even further!) and completely miss the playoffs ie. not even a chance going into the last game or two, then they’ll rightly have a big decision to make. |

Looking at the last 20 games form table we’ve been nowhere near good enough. That said, many others around the top haven’t either. The current top ten over that period: Barnet 47 York 39 Forest Green 30 Oldham 23 Halifax 33 Gateshead 25 Dale 28 Altrincham 29 Southend 34 Tamworth 31 |

It’s normal to have expectations and it’s pretty easy to ignore when those in the game try to play them down as it’s an obvious tactic that’s developed over the years. As a fanbase, I think we’ve always had realistic expectations in the main over the years. There will always be some who don’t, but it’s not who we are as a club unlike other local sides. |

Let’s hope our next manager doesn’t mention expectations then. Unfortunately, I think we’ll find that it’s commonplace. Look at the tactics Alex Ferguson would use to reduce pressure on his players, his autobiography is well worth a read. |
