Sad but true, another blow for the Cowley's. Details from the Gazette below. LYLE Taylor has announced that his time at Colchester United is over. The 35-year-old striker has confirmed he will not be returning to the U’s, following the expiry of his previous contract earlier this summer. Taylor, who was Colchester’s top scorer last season, had been offered a new deal at the end of last season. But the former Nottingham Forest and Charlton Athletic striker, who is still recovering from a calf injury at the end of last season, has said today that he has played his last game for the U’s. Writing on his Instagram account, Taylor said: “The time has come for me to leave Colchester. “Due to circumstances beyond mine and the management’s control, the option to stay at the club has been taken away. “It’s sad to leave a place that took me in and treated me so well, a fanbase who did nothing but support and love me. “A management staff and team who suffered my s**t jokes and loudness, with the occasional goal and sometimes even some good football from the old boy. “To Danny Cowley, Nicky Cowley, every single member of back room staff, my teammates, the training ground staff and the stadium staff, thank you. “I’ll miss you, love you all and wish you nothing but success in the future. “To the fans, you’re brilliant. Home, away, in the shops, in the community, respectful, caring and simply wanting the best for your football club, thank you. “And to one man who has left an indelible mark on me, Matt Calmus, you are the man! I appreciate you bud! “Go well in the future U’s LT33.” Taylor's announcement comes as a blow to U's coaches Danny and Nicky Cowley, who were eager to keep the experienced striker at the club for this season. He was a huge hit in his first season for Colchester last year, finishing as their top goalscorer with 13 goals in 40 league and cup appearances. |
