Saito back, Kolli even fitter, Fox at left back so Ashby still on the bench, Frey possibly back in the firing line ( according to the offy) maybe not all bad news. Hen he’s not there you realise how key Sam Field is to the team |
 | Forum Thread | Is Nourry that bad? at 10:55 10 Apr 2025
So lots and lots and lots of negative opinions on our CEO ( age doesn’t matter by he way) and I get he doesn’t give Clive access to Marti. He has overseen us not getting a FFP fine when for all the wold it looked like we would. Everyone is drooling over our centre back pairing last night, getting Ronnie Edwards the 1st day of the transfer window has been season defining and Morrison is ours permanently under his watch. The DS is in the semis of their biggest cup competition, the squad looks thin because of injuries, but the opposite if the majority were fit. It’s so much stronger than pre-Nourry. I am a glass half full and maybe feel his communication style is not the strongest but I always felt this was about next season. Surgery yes but not as major as we think, somehow need to stem the injuries ( not his area of expertise). Also hoping the rumours of him and Marti falling out ( on various threads) are untrue, stability is an asset. BTW due to not having enough loyalty points I was sitting with a sea of yellow and blue last night, never heard so many compliments about our players and how the hell are we in the position we are. |

Surely Lloyd is fit ? If not someone up front from the DS surely has to make a debut. Sam Field won’t last 90 but we do have cover for him. Wish we could recall Charlie Kelman, mind you he would probably have done his hammy after one training session. 0-0 |

Agree, I live just South of Reading (can confirm I prefer it to Feltham) and despite the kit, the ground and beating us pre-season on my birthday, they do have great die hard fans who just want a local team they can support. It is part of the towns heritage, if Reading can have a heritage. |

Great post, everyone contributing, not being over positive it’s a record year for number of scorers. Personally would not have to rely on one ( will get shot down now). So when we can’t afford that illusion 20 goals a season striker this has to be the best alternative |

Great read Clive ( if not a bit depressing). I am genuinely a cup half full person and can see the progress we are making under this leadership despite a seemingly perpetual injury crisis. We re 14 th in the Championship which makes us the 34th best team in the country. If we hold this until the end of the season, though like a lot of others are starting to look again at results below us, with these players we should be happy. Suspect 16th or lower is where we are going to end up. Assuming Marti is still around it’s all about next season, sounds like I’m on the beach as well. Back to where I start great write up. |

We do have the core of next seasons team committed to the club. Off the top of my head Nardi, Morrison, a fit JCS, Varane, Field, Vale, Morgan, Dembele, Smyth, Chair, Kolli, Lloyd, Celar and dare I say Madsen, other young guns. That’s before we negotiate. Can’t be any worse than those around us.With you on Dunne |

So I brought a neutral mate ( Italian so no real knowledge of the Championship). who thought we were actually the better team but they were obviously the killer team. Interesting.y he thought Illias not fast enough to play on the wing. When I explained one of their subs cost about the same as our entire team he said either they have bought badly or we have bought well. Those who think we are going to need a total refresh of players can’t understand the obvious journey we are going on. I thought we missed Sam Field as Colback presses better than Morgan ( who really had an off game and can’t believe he didn’t even get the shot on target of pass). So agree definitely not the time to despair, it’s all about next season with Vale, Kolli, JCS, Celar all fit enough to contend. |

Brilliant listen and the continuing theme we are going in the right direction on so many fronts. Must be the QPR in me but I don’t like the idea of experimenting for next season until we are mathematically safe. Will be interesting who the back 4 is next season ( or back 5) |

I do wonder in the far bigger picture at some point there will be a big reset in every league below the Prem. I feel like we are starting to take a stand on salaries ( Willock) prime example) and may well lose some names this summer who don’t fit within our parameters. Hence the change in the DS with acceleration to 1st team ( hopefully) and we hold the cards on their salaries already. Field, Chair, JCS, Kolli, Lloyd have extended already within these parameters and Morgan signed, Varane etc. It’s a journey and I think we are on the right one and might lose Jimmy and Steve Cook as part of it. I know what I’m trying to say, there is a bus with a set ticket price and only so much fuel in it and a conductor and driver and needs the right passengers to get to the right destination on time. Next season is the key one methinks |
 | Forum Reply | The Morgan - Varane - Field midfield at 20:48 23 Feb 2025
It’s obvious as well, finding Morgan co-incided with Chair being injured. Agree with Clive play safe and then power up the bench. Thing is u cant drop Saito ( well I don’t think u can) so this is where Marti and Xavi really earn their corn. Imagine ( will never happen) if the whole squad was ft!! Strength in depth, which we now have, causes its own problems. |

Exactly what I was thinking, with Fox, Edwards and Jimmy able to multi-task we should have our bases covered. |

70 years, wow. Interesting selection headaches tomorrow, If Dembele and Andersononthebench who gives way? Does he start with an unchanged team, personally Smythy for Yang, no Ashby on the bench. 1-1 |

I am repeating myself from another thread but we are massively sharing the responsibility with 17 players having scored this season, definition of squad depth methinks when you don’t have that forward. Apologies for repeating. [Post edited 15 Feb 17:24]
