I was told 100 years and 6 months. We may have to change our LFW user names to Statler and Waldorf.

Varane isn't a natural box-to-box midfielder. Great at the defensive side of the game but he doesn't break the lines. If he can add more goals and assists to his game then he'll be a more complete central midfielder.

"Celtic short of forwards at present..."

...and rumoured to be considering Patrick Bamford.

I'm inclined to agree with you, I'm merely relaying what some boxing experts are saying. However, what he definitely wasn't was "an embarrassment to British boxing throughout his career". A very good boxer who deserves more respect but didn't get it because he wasn't British born-and-bred. Little wonder he switched to Australia.

Box Office indeed.

In the lead up to the Ali fight he told Elvis Presley to "get stuffed". Presley's bodyguard, Big Red came over and said "Hey man what ya doin'? No one speaks to the King like that.'' Bugner replied "Mate, you tell Elvis he's a dickhead.''

In the 1970s he took Ali (twice) and Frazier the distance in brutal encounters. Foreman dodged him. Considered by many boxing experts as the 4th best heavyweight of the 1970s. When you consider that the best 3 were Ali, Frazier and Foreman, that's some accolade. Arguably the second best British heavyweight behind Lennox Lewis.

Goodness me, can you not read? I said that he was expected to produce regardless of being stripped of responsibility, not that he was off regardless.

Naturally, he would've stayed had he not been stripped of responsibility. Totally agree with you there. So we're actually in alignment despite you misunderstanding what I originally said.

Excellent stuff. The devil is in the detail and how you execute is paramount. There's little point "buying low to sell high" if you're recruiting players based on what you think PL clubs will want in future rather than address the weaknesses of the team. The team has to be competitive in order for PL clubs to come sniffing.

I don't disagree with the sentiment but that's not the point I made.

Here's what I wrote:
"Would you want to stay in a job where you're slowly being stripped of responsibility but still expected to produce regardless?"

In other words, after 2 seasons pulling miracles it was unreasonable of the board to expect Marti to accept the structural changes and continue to produce results regardless.

Welcome back Koki. That million dollar smile and infectious enthusiasm perked up my morning. Someone who enjoys what they do and is grateful for their blessings gets a tick in my book.

No one said it was, Ned. In all likelihood QPR expressed an interest earlier in the summer but were perhaps put off by wage demands and the player's profile not fitting the model. Consider the evidence. A free agent of good character who'd previously enjoyed a successful loan spell wasn't signed before the season started by a club hell bent on lowering the average age of the squad and developing young players with sell-on potential. There was also precious little pre-signing chatter, unlike the Saito and RND signings. Saturday's debacle, in my opinion, was the tipping point.

That all being said, I'm pleased to see him join. He'll certainly add some steel and know-how to the middle of the park. I'd still like to see a more dynamic, incisive, goal-scoring central midfielder at the club but, hey, good things come to those who wait (and wait).

"You sound like the kind of sad sack who just has to be the sneering cynic in the corner whatever the club does and whenever they do it."

Utterly unnecessary and decidedly rich coming from you.

Hayden has been available all summer and his signing doesn't fit the model. Talks may have been held to test the waters but, make no mistake, they've pulled the trigger in reaction to Saturday shit-show.

Considering the state of our midfield I'm surprised this lad hasn't had a fair crack. Time to ditch Operation Oompa-Loompa and give Vale a run.
