I think this thread is a good demonstration of how badly the club has lost the hearts of its fans. Apart from mediocre quality football, shocking managerial recruitment and gradual depletion of the playing squad quality over the past few seasons, there is very little of interest coming out of the club to keep fans engaged.
Even this thread has drifted off onto an Ann Frank tour review. I gave up my season ticket after relegation 3 seasons ago, because I wanted to see top class football, even if we didn’t always deliver on our side. I haven’t seen anything more than exciting mediocre football at best since then (and a lot of it much less interesting). I constantly look for things to perk up my interest, and frankly, in the media (traditional and social) I don’t see much outside of a couple of forums except articles on players of yesteryear and transfers that apparently we could have done better at, no sh1t Sherlock. I know that a good number of blogs are just lazy students covering several clubs (I guess they must get a kick out of publishing their mangled narratives), so for now, I just stick to this forum.

We haven’t had the type of pushiness that ShaneLong had for quite some time. We were lucky to have Ings at his best, but he didn’t really put it about. Broja soon gave up with that approach and kept drifting out to the wings too. Given SR’s record on buying forwards, we’d better hope that Stewart can keep himself fit. What we saw in the last game was more like his form for Sunderland. |

This. At his best, he can be streets ahead of anything we have in the squad currently. But he hasn’t been at that level for several seasons, and only his free kicks kept him a nose ahead of the rest. He was never really captain material as he doesn’t have the drive to influence games, and that is what we have been seeing for the past few years. |

Will Still says the team need time to unlearn bad habits from the past. I think this is b0llocks. What if our soldiers couldn’t unlearn habits? It is a load of tosh and insulting to expect us to give it any credence. |

In the first half, Downes and Charles were either no shows or poor at best. Charles picked up in the second half, but Downes continues to perform at a level below that required. The TV commentator noted that Still said that people don’t want to pay to watch the CBs passing amongst themselves. Derrr! |

Sound thinking. We hardly posed a big scoring threat before we sold our best two outfield players, so I don’t see that we have improved on the previous standard.I don’t think that there are many on here that consider being number one pick goalkeeper you only have to be better than McCarthy. |
