Ronnie, his son Ian (I think) and Lennie Lawrence were present in the visiting director's box for the final game of last season against their present club, Hartlepool. We had a brief chat and he had no problem recalling the FA Cup tie at Old Trafford. The one were Bryan Robson was recovering from injury and for some strange reason the undersoil heating system failed in one half of the pitch twice causing two postponements. Eventually I think that the game was played on a Thursday night and without Robson. The declared crowd of 28000 was later amended to 40223 when they discovered some more turnstiles. Dale left fullback Dave Grant nearly being decapitated being on the end of a drop kick from Mark Hughes. And I completely forgotten that Gordon Strachan played for Utd that evening. |
