I don't know....you'd hope that they'd be one of the sensible clubs who wouldn't over-extend. Hope. |

I'm learning a bit about Fillery on here in the last few weeks. Been an education. I only saw him from '85 to '87, and I was never impressed with him. Talented, definitely, had to be on that plastic pitch, all of our players in that era could play imo, but I just don't think he did enough, thought he looked out of shape and frequently lost his battle. But if he got that amount of abuse in his first couple of years, then he was hardly primed for peak performance, I suppose. Been reading about him this morning, and turns out he was Player of the Year in SW6 before joining us. |

That's where most of my caution remains too - off the pitch. |

Also very fair. I'm enjoying the unbeaten run, but cautious. |

Brock. Unbelievably good start. We thought we'd hit gold on his debut at Upton Park and he played really well as we went top....but it just seemed to fade away slowly. He stopped imposing himself on games, looked a bit soft, a bit slow, a bit disinterested. When Jim Smith took him with him up to Newcastle, I think we were all a bit pleased. Or maybe relieved. Eighteen months after Upton Park. [Post edited 6 Oct 11:53]

Chicory Tip! I had no idea. How random. 1972. More than a decade later it became a chant for two Gary's - our Bannister and some Lineker lad. |

Am I the only one that doesn't put the fan chant together with the song it came from? I'm not. I can't be! Like, different parts of the brain not connecting? (Or working, but let's leave that to one side, ya?) It's like a musical version of Idiot Eureka. Like Gallen's 'Magic Hat' is 'My Old Man's a Dustman'. Sang it for years before I made the connection. The latest one, and I really hate this one, is "We've Got Varane....." which I know every club has a version of. It was in my head this weekend, and then! Fan Chant Idiot Eureka! I'm singing 'Achy Breaky Heart'. I hated that song. It was the enemy. It's the song that the lad with the scythe would sing when he'd come calling for me. And now I'm singing it? So what songs/tunes do our chants come from? |

Isn't it Mel Johnson's son, Jamie? |

I thought that we had loads of attacks, but for so long poor decision-making and/or poor execution meant that very few ended up with shots on. Bristol City will feel that they should have had a peno and that Smyth's goal should've been disallowed. Twine missed a sitter as well. Maybe a draw would have been fair, but I thought we played well. It may have been a bit fortunate but it wasn't a robbery and no-one's going to jail. |

I have two Cov-supporting friends and they'd both agree with you on all of that. But....they have been impressed with Lampard all the same. Both reckon that he's been wise enough not to reinvent everything, just let it roll. |

I think you're right, Myke. But that's not the point. You chase until the chase is dead. You fight until the fight is over. You play to the only one whistle in the world. This is why we are weak for decades. We forgive this stuff. We allow this stuff. We really shouldn't. Cook was poor on this one. Madsen was poor on this one. Both are in my top three today, by the way. Regardless. |

Great question. A really tough call. We played a very high line at times today. We haven't always done that with Cook in the team and/or with Nardi in goal. It really helped us as we won the ball back quickly. That hopefully means that he's not just over his injury but that they trust him to play that far North and still get back in time on the break. That's really encouraging. Cook also has passing. At times last year his long passes (sorry - diags (TM)) out to the right wing were really good. How many of our centre-backs have forward passing? If he's fast enough and fit enough for us to play the high line when we want to, he's the best centre-back we have imho - positioning, reading, tackling, heading, organising. Clarke-Salter is more talented. But Cook is better. |

Ya, definitely over-committed a few times, Hugey, and he faced up on the wrong foot at least once. Maybe I'm over-compensating for his age, but I still think that's a very good couple of hours for a young lad covering for an older player who was going really well. |
