Is Saito a future 10?
at 15:59 17 Sep 2025

Possibly.
I think he has the skills and potential.
Would still like to see more goals and assists over a prolonged period before moving him into the key 10 position.

I wouldn't rule out a return to form and fitness for Chair either, but not sure he's best at 10 either.

Good call!

I'd forgotten that, he bowed to The Loft after he was applauded, I think.

I'm not sure he did underachieve, Numpty?

I see your point in one way, especially when it comes to Italy, but...not sure...

I'd love if 'It Was What It Was' did a podcast on Platt's time in Italy. Four years, one Coppa, one Uefa is serious going, but Bari was a strange move for a player that talented. Maybe a year wasted. And Juve might have been an overreach in the second season. But he was a roaring success at Sampa.

27 goals in 62 caps, 180 goals in 550 games, that's a great record.

Though he was a great reader of the game, moved really well, had fine technique, he wasn't incredibly fast, he wasn't tall, and he fought his way from rejection by Man U and the Fourth Division to a superb, consistent, elite level....I think there's a case to be made that (maybe a poor career choice or two apart) Platt got the very most out of his circumstances and talents.

Back spasms
at 17:48 16 Sep 2025

When I was about forty, I pulled something in my back. I was up in Dublin for a few days so had to go to a new physio. A young lad. About 12.

As I walked in, he took one benevolent, pitying look at me and softly says "did you do it getting out of the car?"

Not playing football. Or surfing. Or descending the north face of something which has a big north face. No. The car. That's what he just assumed.

And the worst was...he was right.
It was the car.
And he was a lovely fella as well.

Mutter, mutter, mutter...

Great advise on here, Chef.

The main one I'd pick out is that every back injury is different, so for now I'd see an expert - an osteopath or an occupational therapist is what I'd start with - and get this spasm sorted.

After that, I agree with those who suggest stretching, yoga and/or pilates. That should help miniminise re-occurances. Ask the osteopath/occupational therapist for exercises.

I always think that xG over a season seems accurate enough, but in individual games it definitely throws up some wierd old cack.

A potted history, Stoke in the mud edition QPR vs Stoke City Match Thread
at 12:40 16 Sep 2025

"To your actual point, Stoke have won four of their five games, so it doesn't surprise me they're favourites here."

I suppose...and I know Robins' teams always do well against us, but somehow I'm still surprised.

I know very little about how odds are set, though, just to be clear!

Fifteen years ago, I was heading over to London from Cork for my Nephew's christening and bought a bottle of champagne for him (and maybe he'd share it with his parents, who knows).

Not thinking at all, I bought it in the City and brought it to the airport. Going through security, they naturally reminded me that it was over 100ml and that I couldn't bring it through. I said no problem. They were all apologies and asked me who it was for. I told them, and told them to drink it themselves, and no they wouldn't dream of that, and I told them to give it to charity, and they said fine and were all apologies again, and asked me when was I coming home, and I told them. And thought no more about it.

Coming back on Monday they were waiting for me in Arrivals with the bottle and a card for my nephew.

'Tis a grand ol' Country if they could only put a roof on it.
