Who misses out - best team v best plan
at 10:02 23 Sep 2025

I don't I have ever seen a really successful team with multiple changes and rotation each game based on the opposition, especially in the Championship. The only time we seem to go on winning runs is due a settled team which semi picks itself. I do agree we will need to see some changes but no more the 2/3 per match.

Who misses out - best team v best plan
at 09:20 23 Sep 2025

Kolli and Morgan got more games last season out of necessity and I don't expect them to get near those numbers this season. But it's not like they have been replaced by old unsellable players. One of them might need to go out on loan to get games. Might be a season to early for Esq and the RND loan might become permanent. Chair, Dembele and Poku will be useful off the bench and might force their way back into the starting XI, depending on form/injuries. We desperately need a fit JCS, but this can't be relied on and Cook as back up worries me.

I hope the board see the original playing style, we were trying to adopt throughout the club, needs changing. I like the club having an identity and hiring coaches who support this. There will be times to play out from the back and control the game but its to easy for clubs to exploit us. Nourry did hint, although begrudgingly, the project could be adapted from the Plan A.

In big important games West Brom and Derby, especially in years ending 7, 2 and 4.

Team v Sheff W
at 19:07 22 Sep 2025

I don't think Mbengue needs any rest and it would just be delaying the inevitable as he is bound to pick up another yellow in the next 3 games to get a one match rest anyway.

I don't see why we would change anything for Sheff Wed, as all the players have had a week to recover.

Possession…. Can do one?
at 22:41 21 Sep 2025

Under Warbs, I remember one game at home we had the ball for about 3mins and played some lovely stuff, without creating anything. At the time we were full on 'Ole' for every touch.

Now I'm thinking, give me 3mins of yesterday's game. We looked much more attacking and the closing down was brilliant.

I think we have a great balance now and can keep possession if needed but the slow build up can do one!

Mbengue - a potential liability
at 20:39 21 Sep 2025

Has anyone seen a replay? Sky Sports didn't seem to think it warranted inclusion in the highlights. There's a photo online which could photo shopped for all we know.

Until I see it again, in real time and then slow motion, it's hard to know how bad it was. The ref also seemed well placed and reassured Jimmy that no action was going to be needed.

That Mbengue tackle
at 19:07 21 Sep 2025

Cult hero for me, Reading's player of the season last year....strong, quick and can play a bit as well. Lovely ball to Kone to set up the Burrell chance, which was well saved by the keeper.

Will be walking the yellow card tightrope all season, but overall I don't think it will be at Colback levels. He will miss some games, but hopefully through yellows rather than red's.

Sky Sports and the ITV4 Highlights didn't include the 50/50 challenge.

Any links, ahead of the full replay via the official extended replay.

Dembele
at 21:08 20 Sep 2025

We have the first mythical 3 game week coming up, there will be lots of rotation and I am sure Dembele will play his part with possibly get a start.

Looking forward to seeing Chair back as well. The current side looks strong, but we need to look after them as well. I thought the Varanne sub was a good example.

I think the keeper was caught by his own defenders foot. Interesting to see it again, didn't think Burrell made any contact. I think there was a slight fowl a few seconds earlier by Burrell, which the ref let go.

I thought the ref got it spot on. 50/50 challenge, studs not raised the ball was there to be won. Ben Pearsons reaction was over the top and he tried to get Mbengue sent off. Fair play to the ref, he was close to the action and seemed to reassure Jimmy Dunne straight away of the outcome.

Be interesting to see ref's rating. I reckon Clive had him a solid 7/8 for the first 60 minutes before a couple of dubious calls late on.

Kone's all round game
at 19:09 20 Sep 2025

Kone is a pleasure to watch and a nightmare to play against. He has a real calm maturity about him and I love the way he winds the oppo up with a smile on his face.

I think Nourry and the recruitment team have now banked a few brownie points and we can hang up the pitchforks and put out the flaming torches for this season.

Average age today
at 17:29 20 Sep 2025

including Nardi 24.5yrs, without Nardi the outfield was 23.9yrs old.

This seasons recruitment has been amazing, and everyone has settled in so well. On this form, I can see Frey, Cook, Hayden, adding experience from the bench but I don't think we have had a team this young for years.

If Madsen does turn this round and continues to become the play he could be......we might need a recruitment under Nourry thread.

The starting outfield players average age was 23yrs and they all looked like established Championship players.

Dunne v Stoke - thoughts?

At 27yrs Jimmy was the oldest outfield player for us, until the sub. Thought he did his captain duties really well today, adds so much with his height and calm head.

Madsen in with a shout, probably his best home game.

Nobody below a 7 today, really solid team performance and Saito edged it for me.

Saw Weapons this evening, well worth a cinema visit. Had my interest from the start to finish and really well paced. Pretty bonkers as well, but the horror and storyline worked. Solid cast as well, love it when a script like this gets backed and produced so well.
