What a final round, with so many ups and downs. It showed what pressure can do, and Rory mentioned that nerves got the better of him, after being 5 up.

As for Justin Rose, what a gent and true ambassador for golf.

Some good points here. He is a good player and does give 100%, but I agree his defending is questionable. He would probably be more suited to a midfield role.

Yesterday he got muscled off the ball a few times which exposed us.

I was also surprised he stayed this year, and nobody would have blamed him if he left, especially as he stayed for the year in championship. It suggests the offers didn't come flooding in.

it's possible he really was chasing a big pay day, which didn't arrive so next option was to wind down contract.

Whilst we will always be grateful for his goal and assist in play-offs, the reality is he is just not good enough even at Championship level, especially over 46 games.

This is time for Saints to move on and rebuild, and get rid of a lot of the average players we have on the books.

Aston Villa Game Matchday Thread
at 17:03 12 Apr 2025

First half we looked tight and closed them down. We didn't create much and villa had much of the play but weren't really hurting us.

The Villa substitutions made all the difference. Once Watkins and Marlon came on they were very dangerous. As for our substitutions, they offered very little. Smallbone drifted around aimlessly in the middle, leaving massive gap for lead ups o 2nd goal, Dibling looked ok today and was obviously told to get his steps in today !

Fernandes put a real shift in. There was certainly more effort today, but Villa were just too good on the day.

He gave away a needless penalty (not for first time) and then doesn't follow up after Ramsdale saved penalty. He had some good moments, but looked like a rabbit in headlights when Malen came.

Ideally we want to keep him to give us the best chance of getting back up.

If that doesn't happen, I don't see any benefit to Saints by loaning him to Goztepe. If we sold him at least we would have funds to enhance Saints.

I very much doubt Goztepe would pay the going loan fee/rate, in which case we lose a talented player and don't and get the funds he would provide to replace/loan.

With Trump’s 25% tariff on cars, is it time that we stopped buying Teslas?
at 15:20 10 Apr 2025

I think China also holds the upper hand in this stand off ? They hold trillions in US Treasury bonds.

If they start selling all hell will break out. It would hurt them as well, but would re-inforce message that US can no longer be relied on. Interest rates would definitely go up, no matter how much Trump rants at the US FED reserve

Just had a quick look at Dow and Nasdaq - opened down again. This affects most of us, with defined contribution pensions/ Money purchase schemes, especially those nearing draw down.

For some it might be just the excuse needed not renew Season ticket ! (only joking , we need all the support we can get).

Can't wait for Trumps visit to UK !

They do have sanctions, but also still do $3.5b worth of trade with Russia.

It has finally dawned on him that global US tariffs will not work. Yesterday he nearly had a similar moment to Liz Truss where the Bond market started to tank. Many countries, including Japan were selling US bonds, which were supposed to be a safe haven. The world can no longer depend on US.

I was surprised that Howard Lutnik (who was CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald and loaded !) didn't advise against tanking the Bond market, which would have increased interest rates, US liquidity in Bond market to service debt and increase inflation. These are not actions that would deliver Trumps promise to reduce costs on day 1 as he promised. He can't even sort the supply of eggs in US.

Trump thinks he is a financial guru, but really doesn't have a clue how markets function.

I did laugh at his Cabinet and that weird communications advisor, Karoline Leavitt, where they tried to spin Trump's ignorance, saying it was all part of the plan.

This may all settle down, but there will be long term impact to US relations, especially with Canada and, Europe and Mexico.

Add Belarus and North Korea to this list.

The Republicans and his 'yes men' like Navaro and Lutnik say that it was because there are already sanctions on these countries , but the US still does $3b+ of trade with Russia.

It's Frank Lampard, is the inside talk

You are spot on with the approach we took, buying loads of cheaper unproven players, against getting fewer more experienced quality players in just didn't work (including loan deals)

The challenge we have is attracting those players that are in that £30m bracket, paying the wages that these players will demand, and willing to play in Championship. Delap is great example.

Before we eventually got Ramsdale, we were touting all sorts of cheaper (and crocked) goal keepers.

Top 3 worst Saints managers
at 12:39 7 Apr 2025

Looking at this list of managers, we have had so many bad ones, picking the 3 worst is almost impossible.

I wouldn't disagree with your chosen three, but I struggle to give Branfoot a reprieve from a top 3 spot

I would also include Martin, just for his sheer arrogance and reluctance to change, when it was obvious his style was not working.

NASDAQ, Dow and all markets tanking again, after Chinese just responded with 34% tariffs.

Meanwhile, Trump is at an LV golf event at one of his courses, and posting that he will not change Tariffs. Watch this space - the orange man will be under major pressure to cave in and change.

Many countries have wised up and learned from his first term and are prepared to stand up to this idiot. He really is clueless about tariffs. It's all going to boom according to Trump !

He will cause irreparable damage to farming (e.g. Soya etc), whose biggest market is China. They will just go to countries like Brazil.

I spent a lot of time working in US (NY and St Louis) and still have many friends there who I have kept in touch with, They absolutely despair what Trump is doing.

Don’t even think about staying Dibling we don’t want you.
at 17:49 3 Apr 2025

We need to accept he is still young and work in progress. If we had a decent squad or alternative creative midfield players, he probably wouldn't be getting so much game time.

I accept his head may have been turned by transfer speculation and agents in his ear, but unless we are offered a silly amount of money, we should persevere with him, especially in the Championship where he would mature and make a big impact.

Tall Paul was good last night
at 17:09 3 Apr 2025

He did well last night, worked hard and took his goal well.

However, he always looks absolutely knackered the longer the game goes on, and starts drifting out of the game,

For 91 minutes, he gave Saints fans something to cheer about.

Fake tariffs and fake news

US will be up in arms when they realise the price of their Nike trainers and clothing made in Vietnam goes through the roof, with 46% tariffs.

Trump really believes that these companies should be making this stuff in US. Even if they did move their manufacturing back to US, which would take years, the prices would still increase as a result of increased labour costs.

Nike shares down 11% today - what a surprise.

This all seems very logical to me, but not Trump.

Hard to describe Trump (and his yes men cabinet) what they hope to achieve by this crazy action.

He really does believe, that Millions will be added to US treasury and hasn't a clue how Tariffs work.

Over $trillion has been wiped off US stocks today. Nasdaq/tech stocks tanking,

Some senior Republicans are starting to speak up and about time.

I feel sorry for the poor penguins in the Heard and McDonald Islands. How are they going to pay the tariffs ?
