Players out of contract.

Josh Brownhill signing for Saudi Pro League side Al-Shabab, and chose them because he was impressed by their project !

Has anyone ever signed for one of these Saudi clubs and said,' I am only here for the money ? '

The lawyers acting on her purchase of the Hove flat are far from running away. They have come out and said;

1 They don't (and are not qualified) to offer tax or Trust advice
2 The stamp duty was based on the information she provided.

The question is,' what did she disclose to the lawyers or did she get advice from another source ?

Southampton Reported To Have Won The Fight For Brazilian Winger

I am hoping with this Winger signing and Tom Fellows, we can go back to a flat back 4 without the wing backs we were deploying.

S**T - 2-2= Free kick from about 25 yds out.

It was towards top right, but disappointing to be beat from that far out.

I think there was only 3 in wall (need t see again), So if you dont have a full wall, you must be confident of not getting beat from 25 yds. Very poor

Just a new quality striker and if Aribo, Smallbone and Diaz leave, It will have been a reasonable window.

Flags

Apologies if this is already covered.

Who is sponsoring all these flags ? I understand it started in West Midlands. My small village, miles from Birmingham is covered in them ?

They are high up on posts. I can't believe our neighbourhood watch/twitchers didn't spot anyone putting them up.

I am disappointed that he has left. He was the one highlight from the horror show last season.

I can see how he would want to leave, with the World Cup next year, and it doesn't come as a surprise that International managers want their best players in top leagues. However, I can't see how going to West Ham will help.

I think he has conducted himself well during this period, and just got on with playing for the club, unlike Dibling. As for the unauthorised trip to West Ham, it sounds like this was the medical and deal had been (or almost concluded). I didn't read too much into this.

If he wanted to leave, whether for money or international aspirations, and we are offered £40m, then I believe Saints did the right thing.

We move on. With transfer window closing, we can now get some stability around who is in/out, and build team around those left.

I agree Downes has not impressed so far, but prepared to hold fire on any judgement.

As for Qashie, I still believe he will come good. None of the CB's have excelled so far this season. All at some point have made big mistakes.

Thanks for the incoming midfielder and winger SR any chance of a Centre Forward?

I am available ? I used to play a bit up front in my day. Put on a few pounds since, but wiling to give it a go ? I am not after much in return and would be well cheap.

I can only do 3pm KO as I play golf in the morning at weekends with my mates, and train service back to London is bad for evening games. Was hoping Bella kotchap could give me a lift, he wasn't busy.

I can't train much as I am 2 hrs away from Soton now, but not sure that matters as I have't seen much service from practicing dead balls or decent crosses to the front guys so far.

On serious note, happy to see a few signings starting to arrive. Never really seen any of them, but we can only hope they prove a good buy.

Just checking , he did well at keeping the ball or getting some minutes ? He got minutes here recently and didn't really do much ?

Time will tell, but I still think £40m was good business for Saints.

I think it's more than the 3 losses this season. His record last season at West Ham was not that good either. I have always questioned the hype around Potter. His days are numbered.

Stoke Game Matchday Thread
at 17:32 23 Aug 2025

Stoke were there for the taking today, especially when they went down to 10 men.

2 crazy errors for their goals. Flyn Downs (I think) losing the ball in middle of park to gift them the first. The defending and positional play for their second following a massive throw by Johansson, was comical. Not sure how much Bazunu was to blame, need to see it again.

Poor finishing again cost us. Robinson hit post twice. Downs and Stewart both missed absolute sitters. It was harder to miss.

Armstrong , D. Downs and Stewart were anonymous.

We got the ball wide but slipped back into old habits, going down the flanks and then stopping and playing it back.

On a positive note (hopefully), Fernandes started and played whole game. Is that a sign he could be staying ?

Only Adam Armstrong and Szmodics (Blackburn) scored 20 or more in 23/24 season ?

Vardy got 18 (inc 4 penalties) and Broadhead at Ipswich got 13.

Last season in Championship - no-one got 20 or more ? Piroe got 19, and Brownhill at Burnley got 18.

UK inflation increasing is partly Oasis’ fault
at 19:41 20 Aug 2025

I accept that the Fujitsu example, was not a good one. However, whilst Horizon was developed by ICL. Fujitsu had acquired 90% stake in ICL dating back to the early 90's. The Fujitsu (UK) legal entity was not created until 2002.

I also agree, that a number of companies do use Off shore development centres, but there is a big trend with UK companies bringing software development back in house, because of quality concerns, delivery and their ability to control projects and costs better.

The Outsourcing company rates may look attractive at first, but these savings quickly erode if development takes twice as long to deliver or many iterations to get right.

Reference the comments about outsourcing. I have many years working in the City and managing major IT and Business transformation programmes (M&A), with a number of the leading overseas Outsourcing companies.

Yes, they are cheaper, but this mostly comes at a price further down the line. The quality is often questionable, with significant delays , financial over spend and failure to deliver the agreed benefits.

Some high profile cases include; DWP, Cyber attack on M&S, British Airways failures and data breach, Disclosure and Barring service (£220m over spend and 4 years late). Carillion, Emergency Alert system, Income Tax project and who will ever forget the Post Office/Horizon scandal with Fujitsu.

Many companies may only outsource their system Penetration Testing, but poor standards and quality have caused problems when systems go live.

Cheap is not always best !

Satyam, Infosys and Tata Consulting are absolutely coining it from Government (and private) contracts, and made all so much easier now they don't have to pay NI, which puts UK companies at a distinct disadvantage.

Having worked in the City for many years, I can confirm, the quality and output is also poor, but that doesn't seem to matter, they are cheap !
