Always liked visiting Ipswich. Sadly no ticket this year, not helped by their reduced allocation. If anyone has a spare or can't make, please let me know. [Post edited 15 Aug 12:11]

There is still nearly 3 weeks to go. Too early to panic. After dropping down from premiership, this will always bring added challenges with players leaving and Saints waiting to see who goes etc and what money comes in. Ipswich and Leicester haven't exactly done loads of deals and both also lost key players as well. |

2-1 , and with 75% possession. In the end we were lobbing balls into the big guys, which made sense. Martin would be still trying to build from back with tippy tappy passes trying to walk it over the lane. |

I can't recall ever giving Stephens an 8/10 on the ratings page. Can someone do it for me ! |

Full marks to Still for making so many brave attacking changes. Lost count in the end, it may have been a 6-3-1 formation ! :) |

OMG three players I have had criticised on many occasions have delivered today - Manning (goal), Stephens (2 class clearances) and Bazunu, finger tip save at the end. Won't apologise for the grief I have given Stephens over the years, but will say what a performance he put in today. [Post edited 9 Aug 14:27]

I am far from being a Stephens admirer, but I will concede he did make and superb clearance, when they were on goal. |

Edwards has been poor in 1st half. Why he had to revert to the Jack Stephens book of defending and push Moore was madness. We are at least moving the ball a lot quick and not playing tippy tippy stuff. A few changes are needed though. Put one of the big guys up front in place of Armstrong and move to a back 4. We have created some good opportunities. Armstrong and Downs have golden chances and hit wood work. Would like to see the challenge on Robinson again for penalty shout. 1st time I have seen Quarshie. He looks quite solid and has a hell of throw on him which will cause defences problems. [Post edited 9 Aug 13:31]

I am not convinced on that performance, although it is early days. 1 shot on target and that was a penalty. A very fortunate penalty and a Birmingham goal that should have stood. I thought the Ipswich defence looked very shaky. Overall it was an average game at best. Very niggly and ref lost control. [Post edited 9 Aug 7:45]

 | Forum Reply | Matty Fernandes Great Attitude at 16:19 8 Aug 2025
As said before in early posts, his attitude and work ethic is exemplary. I can't see us keeping him (but believe in miracles) and I wouldn't really blame him if he left to better himself, after we got relegated. He deserves to be playing at the top level. If the reset of the team showed as much commitment and effort he puts in, its possible we might not even be in this predicament. If Dibling is being touted at £40m + we should be asking double that for Fernandes. |

Much is made of Stephens having been at the club for a long time and a good servant. That is not based on ability or leadership, it is based on the fact that no other cub would have offered him the contracts/salary he got at Saints, anywhere else. Why would he leave ? I still believe, 3 years was madness and not justified or needed. Spors really has miss judged this. I had hoped we had started a new chapter when he was appointed. [Post edited 8 Aug 11:39]

Slightly off topic, but I agree with you on Bournemouth and Brentford struggling this season. |
 | Forum Reply | Saints standing their ground over Dibling at 07:39 7 Aug 2025
I am with StMark on this, training alone and isolating him from the team is probably a clear sign that a deal will be done. If not, how long before he or his agent requests a move ? His head has obviously been turned. These things never usually end well if a player wants to leave, after a big offer is made. He also has a new agent who can smell a big pay day. I accept he is a talented player (albeit inconsistent), but is it worth disrupting and unsettling the team at this stage of our rebuilding process ? Even if he stays, if Everton don't sign an alternative, this issue will only resurface in January. To his credit, he has kept quiet - so far. Take the money and re-invest wisely. Whilst it is wrong that some Ozzies overstay their visa and are here technically illegally, the chances are they haven't been given a property/hotel, benefits and free health care. |

All valid points on here about keeping our best players etc. However, this is a lot harder when you have been relegated, with pressure from players wanting to play in premiership and agents turning their heads with large pay rises. I think most people would accept that sometimes we have to cut and run, if the money was reinvested in full and wisely, Unfortunately, we have a history of really poor buys, who are either crocked or just not good enough. This sounds like it was getting very close according to all he media rumour sites. |

if the £20m figure is correct (or close), that is a big gamble. He has never fully recovered from his injuries. I can't see any club buying him, given his injury record. Perhaps a loan deal at best. |

Doesn't bode well for RM, if you start criticising the team publicly after one game ! I give him to xmas. |
