I started to read Tom Sharpe in the early nineties so I reckon it’s about time to revisit them. Recently bought Bob Mortimer’s first novel, The Satsuma Complex. If it is as funny as the man himself then I’ll more than enjoy it. |
 | Forum Reply | QPR convert 3.7 million worth of loans into shares at 17:15 23 Oct 2025
I read an interview with him somewhere and he said that he couldn’t walk away from QPR as his three children are such big fans that they would never forgive him! Good enough for me. For all the mistakes that have been made he has held the club together and probably the best owner since Jim Gregory. |
 | Forum Reply | Chair for No.10 at 09:00 23 Oct 2025
Now that Chair has players around him that will cause the opposition concern like Burrell, Kone, Saito and Poku it will mean that unlike previous seasons when the options were limited to the likes of Dykes, Frey and to a certain extent Smyth it should mean that he has more space to play as opponents may not be able to afford two players on him like we had seen far to often limiting his ability. If he keeps fit then I can see him and Madsen really starting to dictate games which can only be a good thing. In addition to this the change that he had, which was only half a keepers foot away from being a goal was the type of play that we haven’t seen since Di Canio was manager. A great little pass from Dembele through the defence picked up by a late run by Chair, all but undefendable. |

Do what Esox did a few years back. Absolutely no problem with parking for him that night!.😂 Over to you Mike to explain! 🙈 |
 | Forum Reply | Madsen and Varane at 08:53 19 Oct 2025
Varane for me is an average player at best and as said before in this thread gets caught too many times dithering about where to play the ball to. Too many bad decisions and too often needs to turn back, it was his mistake that almost led to a first goal for Millwall, and he had Nardi to thank for an outstanding save from Smallbone. A poor attempt at a headed clearance led to their second goal. If someone wants to pay £5million in January I’d snap their hand off. Field back as a defensive midfielder to accompany Madsen, who I thought controlled the game yesterday is a far better option with Hayden as a back up. Overall though I thought we played well yesterday, with a bit more luck and a better final ball we would have won at a canter. Also given that we had players coming back from all corners of the globe didn’t help as once Burrell and Saito came on we stepped up a few gears and could/should have got a point as a minimum. Hopefully a full squad to select from for the Swansea and Derby games. |
 | Forum Reply | Kolli up front in a two at 11:29 8 Oct 2025
Kolli has certainly bulked up a fair bit during the summer which he needed to do as he was too easily outmuscled last season. I see a very good player in him and someone which if named in the team or coming on as a sub I have no worries about, which is a rarity to say about players who have come through the academy system at Rangers. Nowhere as pacy as Burrell but then again not many footballers are. He has a good footballing brain and who knows he could eventually be the replacement for Kone if we get a great offer for him. |

 | Forum Reply | Pensions Advice at 07:13 6 Oct 2025
JH, I retired last year as an adviser of 37 years standing. So I cannot give you advice anyway but I’ll give you a few facts and my opinions. If the schemes are deferred benefit arrangements or as most people know them, final salary schemes, then take the benefits when they are due, you will not gain anything by deferring them. You could request an enhanced lump sum through the accelerated pension rules which could greatly enhance your lump sum but will reduce your pension by a factor of £12 of lump sum for £1 of pension, this will have the benefit of potentially reducing your tax liability in the future and enabling more of your benefits now and as someone has already said, you don’t know when your sell by date is. This also should not effect the eventually spousal pension should your missus survive you. If the pension is a defined contribution scheme, (personal pension rules usually), then depending on the value of the pension you could access the whole funds under triviality rules, although anything above the TFC will be liable for income tax, wherever you declare it. Take it if you need it, don’t take it if you don’t as the chances of a greater return over the longer term is much better than taking the funds and sticking it in some deposit account. If you need any further ‘opinion’ then PM me. |

They had the Gorkyrys money and spent it wisely. The lad from Wimbledon, Rudoni, they got from Huddersfield who had got him from under our own noses is a great purchase and really impresses me when I see him play. Hopefully now we will in Kone have our own Gorkyrys and kick in when sold. |
 | Forum Reply | Tyler comms day at Bristol City at 00:26 5 Oct 2025
The feed I was watching went down after about 10 minutes so switched to the Brizzle one. Will say their commentator on I think is called RobinsTV was as monotoned as they come and seemed not to know half our players. Plenty of pregnant pauses. Switched back to the QPR feed just before they scored but listening to Tyler, he is so good it is almost a radio commentary. And he certainly does his homework on the opposition beforehand. |

Just been on their forum and from the moment Sincs came on they were, well, not too complimentary about the lad. Shame really because I thought his 30 minute cameo was fantastic. £2million. Nourry warrants a medal for that sale! |

If you was told that after 8 games Rangers would be: - 10th in the league, point off fourth place - only had lost two games - won twice at home - unbeaten in four at home - had a couple of decent forwards Would you have taken it? |

Heard a quote from the Brighton owner who said that Tom Bola is his favourite customer as he always overpays on everything he sells him! And took Potter off his hands for a fair few million too! |
 | Forum Reply | Owl be seeing them in League One Sheff Wednesday Vs QPR match Thread at 20:23 27 Sep 2025
Wednesday won’t be the worst team we would have played this season, in fact they looked better than Wrexham. Throw in that they are playing as if their life depended on it in the face of Chansiri and off the back of their first win. They ran Leicester close on the opening day and if Bannan got a red card that game I suspect that they could have gained a point. Pederson has got them well organised and fair play to them. Given their predicament in a financially perverse sport I hope the players do the club justice unlike those at North Battersea who thankfully made my evening. Problem is that because of their troubles everyone thinks that playing them will be a roll over. I’m happy with a point because QPR 24-25 version would have lost that. We are still very much learning as a team ourselves. |
 | Forum Reply | ROB ELMS - FREEDOM of the CITY of LONDON at 21:25 25 Sep 2025
Well done to Robert Elms. My dearly missed Mum was also a Freeman, for which she was very proud to be, and a proper cockney born within the sound of Bow Bells. For her 80th birthday I got here a place on the annual Woolman’s Guild Sheep Drive, which allowed her to drive a flock of sheep across London Bridge, which as a Freeman Robert Elms also now has that right to do. I love the history of our great city and Peter Ackroyd, who is quoted at the top of Robert Elms’ book has written some stunning books on its history. All worth the read. |

 | Forum Reply | Harold 'Dickie' Bird RIP at 13:43 23 Sep 2025
Meet him on two occasions. Firstly at a sportsman’s lunch when we were the first to arrive, apart from Dickie of course, he was in the kitchen getting a cup of tea, stood and had a lovely chat with him before the numbers increased. And secondly at a book signing. Went into Waterstones to get another book around 7pm and there was Dickie, still sat at his table with a few books left and nobody to talk to. Spent another half an hour chatting away and of course bought his book, two I think, one for my Dad. What a lovely and very charming gentleman he was. Never forget the Saturday of the Lords test in 1976 when there was a bomb scare. Thousands sat with him on the outfield, and Dickie was there making sure nobody ventured onto the pitch. RIP Dickie, and thanks for the chats. |
