Andy Duff and his team will be well aware of the revenue opportunities if we can make good progress in the play-offs. Of course the real showcase for the town would be a trip to Wembley. Remember the buzz when we had 17,000 in the League Two play-offs. 80+ coaches booked. All merchandise sold out. The club will need to put as much effort into selling the play-off game as they did the Spennymoor game. Success on the field breeds success off it. Sponsors will line up. I don't believe that discounting one of our best value products is the way forward. People will come to the play-offs to see us succeed. If we do, some will buy into next season. But I can't see any benefit from discounting season tickets when the vast majority of purchasers will already be committed to both the play-off game and the season ticket. Lets focus on selling out Spotland next Thursday first. |

I think we need to be respectful of the new owners James. Demanding that people spend their money for our enjoyment is the kind of thing Premiership fans do. I am grateful that we have a family in charge that is prepared to 'invest' in the infrastructure so that we become self sustaining. They have a lot of pitch work to do in summer, and investment in training facilities and commercial capacity at Spotland. If we manage to do okay on the play-offs, and don't let ourselves down, season ticket sales will come. It has been pleasing to see a big uplift in match day ticket sales over the past few weeks. |

You are right - they can throw all the marketing they want at this game, people won't come as it will be seen as a nothing game. Of course we are not yet guaranteed our spot so to us it isn't a nothing game. The time to get the marketing in motion will be for a play-off game at home if we get one. No excuse for not trying to fill the ground. We can all remember the atmosphere v Darlo all those years ago. |

100% agree with you there. The club needs to embrace young fans and bringing them in to show them how we manage the stadium can only help. We haven't heard of any actions following the Spennymoor game - as you say the club has good CCTV and will know who was sat in which seats in that group at the end of Pearl Street. Yesterday I got a cab in Newcastle and was chatting about the Man City v Villa game and whether it was a good result or not for Newcastle. I got to talk about Rochdale and the taxi driver told me a story about a mate of his who has a new partner from Rochdale who has moved up to Newcastle. She has 4 kids and one is known as 'one of our top 5 hooligans'. She claims it is badge of honour. The taxi drver couldn't believe the 1980s still existed in non league. I despair. We clearly have a small number of idiots that come to the game to cause trouble come what may. They are the ones we need to weed out. Like your idea of people being encouraged to spend more money through hospitality. But is the lounge concept still available given the club seem to be moving to a bar offering for mainstand fans paying for the padded seats from next season? [Post edited 24 Apr 10:54]

Surprised they have made the annoucement so early given we don't know which league we will be in (optimism for you). I think the club will have been surprised as to how many didn't renew last year and want to encourage renewals this time around. They recognise that costs are rising and have said that match day ticket prices will rise when announced. They should probably make that announcement sooner rather than later so that people can see how much value the season ticket is. |

What a sad day. He really was one of our own and a massive inspiration to so many. RIP Joe. Condolences to your family. |

Very true. But it reinforces my point perfectly. Season Ticket holders that live away from Rochdale find it hard to get to Tuesday evening games especially if they have a job. I know I do. We should be pleased we have so many season card holders that are still prepared to support their home town club, despite having to put up with some pretty poor performances over the past 5 years. I am not sure how we compare with other clubs, and it might be the norm, but if I am right and we have c400-500 season card holders that have to travel to Rochdale to watch games, we shouldn't be surprised when they can't get there. |

TS, I think you underestimate just how many season ticket holders live away from Rochdale. We have had at least 4 other home league games before today where the home gate was between 1500-1800, yet no outcry. Its not just a Spennymoor impact. I don't know what the gate was today, but I can understand why people won't spend more to travel to watch the team after last weeks performance. And remember we have had 9 home games in 6 weeks and it is a lot to splash out (even if you are a season ticket holder) if you need to travel. Of course you could ask why, in a borough of over over 220,000, less than 2,000 turn up to support their team even on a good day. We are ruddy lucky that so many fans are prepared to travel to watch us when most have better quality options on their doorstep. |

That's the tonic we needed and other results couldn't have gone better for us. Talk about rollercoaster this season. Well done lads. |

Ferguson was interviewed on the Yeovil website yesterday ahead of their game v Owdum. He said he was happy at a club where he was getting game time and where the manager believed in him. I doubt he is very happy at all on the recall. Can't blame him as he doesn't appear to be in Jim's plans. |

Hendo is very much in the same mould as Jim. They were both players in the same squad. I don't know if you went to his dinner in October (?) but he talked passionately about McNulty and what he is trying to do, and drew parallels about the young squad he has assembled with the one Hilly brought together when they had the freedom to attack and often scored 4 goals a game. He said that he thought the current squad was on the verge of being like that. The media team has rolled out Hendo, as a fans favourite, to calm the fan base down. No surprise to me that he is supportive of his current manager/best mate/ and his employer. Same with Camerons note. It reminds us that we have come a long way from being on the brink of extinction. We have indeed. It is clear from that interview that nothing is going to change and we will have to put up with this style of football for at least another year. All we can do now is back the team to get us into the play-offs and fight from there. If not, the team is 'improved' over summer and we go again. If we are still in this position in a years time then maybe the Board will realise it isn't working. But I am not surprised that the club has gone on the defensive with the communications this week. |

Heartwarming read. A Pole Star in the Boardroom is something businesses talk about but their behaviour suggests they pay lip service to it. Brentford appear to have got it right - but the football regulator is needed to bring others into line. Who would think it right to jack up pricing for the under 18s simply because there had been an adult £30 cap? Then you have Man Utd this year telling lifelong fans that their support is no longer important. They have forgotten why FC United was set up not that long ago |

I'd do some praying before Saturday if I was you. Eastleigh have sold one seat so far. And we don't look like we can be bothered. |

I too agree that the Andy Duff response brings a number of outstanding issues to a head. The ticketing system hasn't delivered what it set out to do. Despite being promised fixes to it, the system hasn't worked properly all season. So its a big plus for me that they will replace it. Hopefully it will have an intergrated CRM system so the club can start to commercialise attendance etc. And hopefully all season tickets will be sold using the new system Moving the away fans back to Wilbutts is a positive. Saving a few stewards when we were cash strapped was the right thing to do, but it has caused a lot of grief. Reviewing the stewarding has to be a priority. It hasn't been good for a long time since we outsourced it. Nice to hear that the club acknowledge a change is needed. Still don't know why we didn't have enough stewards on Saturday that could control our lot in block V (?) Anyhow, we might be back to sub 2000 crowds next Saturday so feel free to bring the dog for a walk like the old days. |

We've been talking about the stewarding issues for about 5 seasons now. The stewarding company is next to useless. Whether that is failing to help older fans who have fallen down the mainstand steps, whether it is helping new fans trying to find their seats, or dealing with pitch encroachment. Is Spotland safe? It certainly wasn't on Saturday. Police desperately calling for reinforcements because the stewards couldn't manage. Police using batons on our own fans - although they deserved it for going on the pitch. Sadly I have no confidence in the leadership of the club when it comes to safety or commercial nous. To have young families attending what should have been a carnival game and see them frigtened ****less doesn't help the town or the club attract new fans. I do hope lessons will be learned quickly just in case we have another big game in the play-offs. They knew who had booked the seats in the second last block of Pearl Street. They know who caused the problems. It is 11am on the first business day after the game. Nothing on the club website to acknowledge the problem or to apologise to the 90% of decent fans. Has the club apologised to Spennymoor? [Post edited 7 Apr 12:11]

To be honest we'd have been better playing Brad Kelly for the rest of the season. He was okay in the under 21s cup competition. Would he have made a better fist of things on Saturday? We'll never know. |
