Christianity has done just as much persecuting as it's received. There's more blood on the hands of the Catholic Church than maybe any other organisation in history. Like the OP said though, Moslems can slaughter Christians or indeed other Moslems basically anywhere and you don't get a peep out of the Palestine Action (or Stop the War, or CND, or whatever. They're all basically the same people), but Israel responds to the biggest slaughter of Jews since the Holocaust and they're out marching in all weathers. They're not anti-Semitic mind. |

If an economy is creating Billionaires, then that economy is doing well (either that or hyperinflation). Wealth is not a finite resource that can be "hoarded", no matter how much people think that the likes of James Dyson sit on great piles of it like a Tolkein Dragon. In the vast majority of cases, it's paper wealth tied into the value of businesses. Businesses that are generating income, providing services that people want, paying taxes, employing workers. In short, everything that we currently don't have enough of in the UK. [Post edited 12 Sep 18:15]

I guess we'll find out. I'm holding onto judgement about how good the window was until they've all had a bit more time to settle in. It's just as premature to praise as it is to castigate for me at the moment. Edit: Reading the other site and the links to stuff that Montague said on his way out (Linkedin I believe) I don't think I was too far off the mark with some of the reasons why he's off given who got named for thanks and who didn't. Starmer wanting advice from some of the people most responsible for our current situation. Like I said. Every decision he makes is stupid. |

Reading between the lines it seems like Monty and Dimi (could have been a kids cartoon) are at cross purposes, whether major or minor, and Dimi, being Brett Cravatt's guy, won out. Most of us old heads will probably view the prospect of Dimi having even more power with some trepidation, but this is our life now. |

This is the crux of it for me. Even Starmer isn't dull enough to think that Mandelson isn't dodgy down to the bones, so why on Earth appoint him to one of the highest profile Ambassadorial posts available ahead of dozens of more qualified candidates? Every decision he makes is stupid. Every lie obvious. It's almost like he's doing the job terribly to win a bet, like a politics based version of Brewster's Millions. |

By no means knowledgeable about stuff like this, but 200 yards really doesn't seem all that far for a rifle shot, especially when the target is sitting down and immobile. I'd imagine that there are hundreds of thousands, maybe even millions of Americans, even some who are just active hunters rather than militarily trained, who could have made that shot with ease. As for getting away with it, it was a student event at a university as opposed to a Presidential speech. There would have been some security for sure, but I'd imagine that it was probably more close protection to prevent assaults rather than perimiter security guarding against a rifle assassination. If the shooter had done this to someone like Trump and got away clean then I'd have far more questions. |

The place she used to run in Bishopsworth is called The Tythings now. Was The Elm Tree at the time. I don't know if the area has gentrified a bit over the last 25 years but it had a certain reputation then. We've done pub crawls all over Bristol over the years. Clifton was a good one. Gloucester Road I've done a few times. There's even a fairly good brewery tap room one than can be done mostly on foot. |

Bagged tickets for Florence and the Machine in Manchester next February. One of the few acts left on my "must see" list. |

At some point the line has to be drawn between religion and race. A race is something that people are born into. It is not a conscious choice that people make and should absolutely be a protected characteristic. A religion is something that people choose to follow and should have absolutely no protection in law from criticism, slander, mockery or otherwise. |

Considering his track record as a manager in the league was one of relegation and horrendously poor defences, it's a shame that there weren't more of them and we could have maybe avoided appointing him in the first place. |

I know Bedminster a little bit. Mate of mine used to live in the Robinson building. She's out in Fishponds now. My mother also used to run pubs in both Horfield and Bishopsworth so I've been coming back and fore since the late 90's on and off. The Harbourside is a cracking night out. Have drunk plenty of silly strength cider in the Apple. Some very good ale pubs on King Street too. |

If Stamenic is out it's an annoyance but we've got plenty of midfield depth to cover. I'd imagine that the idea behind the Summer spending is so we're not overly reliant on any one player. |

A shocking act. To do it in front of his wife and kids too. Hopefully the perpetrator/s will be swiftly caught and dealt with to the fullest extent of the law. Political violence is rarely justified, but it has to be said that there is also a certain amount of hypocrisy coming from the right on the subject. Ask the families of Melissa Hortman or Gabrielle Giffords if this marks a departure from the usual political discourse. Unfortunately America is a country with limitless supplies of both lunatics and firearms and events like this are unlikely to become rarer. [Post edited 11 Sep 8:30]
