A few people predicted that he wouldn't last the season. Not sure many thought that season would be Summer.

All this Budget Speculation

Like night follows day.

You will never convince Socialists that high tax policies are ultimately self defeating. If they were capable of understanding that then they wouldn't be Socialists.

As has been said before, the best tax rates are the ones that people are happy to pay. Raise them too much and people will work harder to avoid them and income decreases.

You, of all people, really should keep schtum about whether or not people attend games and their reasons why.

Go Safe vans tend to be wherever they aren't needed. Like outside schools on a Saturday morning instead of a weekday.

They're a moneymaking scheme. Nothing more. Perhaps the most cynical example of how little any of this has to do with actual safety.

Ultimately he (and his estate) have earned something like $100m from Star Wars. Probably more than almost everyone else bar George Lucas himself.

Good going.

Motorway speed limits should be 80mph these days. Existing ones are based almost entirely on 60 year old vehicle technology. Stopping distances are, in reality, at least a third lower than the Highway Code suggests.

Lets hope so.

They can start by pulling down the average speed cameras on the M4 in Port Talbot and Newport.

So still less than eight a year on average. Again, with thousands of journeys a day.

Two fatalities, only one involving excess speed. 30 accidents over a ten year period. So that's an average of three accidents a year on a road traversed by thousands of cars every day.

It was a very, very safe road at 60mph. The other roads were remarkably safe as well, but dumbass local party hacks are going to do what they do whilst emotionally manipulating the easily gulled.

Petitions don't have any legal binding in the UK. I could easily rustle up 3000 signatures on a petition to birch shoplifters outside the Quadrant, but the Goverment or local authorities would pay no attention to it and rightly so. Laws cannot be dictated by emotions, and any politician who allows them to be so is not fit for office. No great shock in Wales. There's loads of those.

In any case the fatality that initiated all this was caused by two idiots racing at 90mph. Not 60mph. The 60 limit was perfectly safe and should have been left in place.

The Grandaddy of them all. Alec Guinness.

Bit harsh on McKellen though. the LOTR trilogy remains a fabulous piece of work and a cultural touchstone 25 years later.

Swansea City v Watford : Match day thread

Could be an interesting marker as to where we currently stand.

If we've got serious ambitions of mounting a proper promotion push then games like Watford at home are where we need to be picking up three points (no doubt they'd be thinking the same if we were playing there this weekend).

I think given their current difficulties and our obvious need for more minutes to aid the team in "jellying" I'd prefer to be facing Sheff Wed away first of our two next fixtures, but a win on Sat would present us with an excellent chance of winning three out of our first four. Which, given the apparent difficulty of our start according to some stats wonks and the hysterical nonsense that followed Middlesbrough, would be very decent going indeed.

No idea it was on. Must have been poorly marketed. It's the sort of thing my dad would have wandered along to as he only lives around the corner.

Replacements, injury cover, rotation. If we're going to be playing intensive football we'll need to be able to handle all three.

For the same reason I wouldn't be hugely surprised to see another winger brought in. Can rotate Ronald/Eom/Inoussa/Newbie too, and that's without factoring Widell in as an option.

Their winger got around Key a couple of times but even after he did he was generally shepherded quite well.

He's a decent enough FB. Not outstanding, not terrible. I think he's just another victim of the binary nature of what passes for online football commentary these days. Players are either awesome or terrible. There doesn't seem to be much room for the merely decent.

We saw when he first joined that he's probably got a level or two left in him above what we mostly see so it'll be interesting to watch if Sheehan can get that out of him a bit more.

Fulton

Your penultimate sentence is the key.

Sheehan clearly rates Fulton. He's used him in some capacity in almost every game since he took over as caretaker, as indeed every manager Fulton has had since he first became a first team regular has used him regularly.

It speaks volumes that during that time the only manager who made a concerted effort to move him on was the worst one of the lot, and even he eventually relented.

1. He's not coming in for £4.5m.

2. It's a long old season and our midfield is clearly going to be doing a lot of work. It'll be nice to be able to rotate quality with quality.
