We don't "desperately need" anything. Every year we hear this nonsense. We're doomed without another striker/goalkeeper/fullback/whatever. It's not been true since 2018 and it's not true now. |

People have been predicting Phil Parkinson's demise at every point of Wrexham's ascent so far. I'm not sure it's coming any time soon, even if they struggle early doors. The man took a League Two team to a major Wembley final and had achieved three promotions before even getting the Wrexham job. He clearly knows what he's doing. |

This is their biggest problem. They will have attracted a significant number of new (plastic) supporters in recent seasons. Retaining them, even the dickheads, when they inevitably have a poor or even middling season won't be easy. Newbie fans complain louder and more frequently than those who have been there long enough to see plenty of ups and downs. |

The EU's (not Europe. The difference matters) entire response to Brexit has been intended to punish the UK and dissuade other nations from perhaps taking the same route. It's one of the reasons why I'm glad we chose to leave as I would be glad to leave any abusive relationship. Things might be tough to begin with, but in the long run you're always better off out of it. |

If you're a council tax payer they're not "free". |
 | Forum Reply | Wrexham 😂 at 19:22 25 Jul 2025
I'd wager an affordable amount of money that the vast majority of the Wrexham "fans" giving it large are ones that the club have acquired in recent years and not the older crowd. The latter are probably still too busy pinching themselves at what's happened to gloat about it. |

The Global financial crisis happened quite late on in the existence of the New Labour Government. We'd spent ourselves into a mess well before that. |

You're spot on about the pension figures. Unfortunately too many people just fixate on the easy numbers instead of looking at the whole picture. The problem is that immigration is the "easy" fix. Just ramp up the numbers without a care for community cohesion, whether or not the incoming will actually fix the problem and even if they do, what will happen when they themselves get old. We need to be encouraging the people born here to have more children. Start a National childcare service. Tax breaks for parents. Build more houses and offer a discount/refund to anyone who starts a family within five years. Enrol the kids from birth into a private pension scheme. Anything other than what is happening now. |

Yep. A lot of people still labour under the misconception that the State Pension is basically a savings fund. It isn't. Ironically if it was it would probably be in a better state. It goes back to what's been said before. There are not enough people paying in to the system, and too many people taking out. A crash is inevitable unless hard decisions are made. Personally I'd be looking at means testing the Pension and removing entitlement to it from anyone who could have contributed but hasn't long before I look at bumping the age up again. I'd also look at maybe coming up with some way of paying contributions into an investment fund instead of just into general Government funds for future generations. |

I left my trade union fairly recently. Got tired of getting emails about Gaza when I was receiving almost none about our own staff's situation. The Trade Union movement should be something great, but instead it's been hijacked by the usual suspects and the corrupt. |

Labour stopped giving a shit about the "Working Class" decades ago. Now they're the party of the benefits class, the civil service or the middle class dilettantes. Anyone who actually gets off their arse to try and earn a good living and boost their family welbeing is a target for them now. [Post edited 23 Jul 9:30]

No, a long one. Long enough to remember what things were like before Blair got hold of the country, why the laughably labelled "Far Right" Tories were basically just a continuation of him and his tactic of disguising unsustainable tax and borrow policies as "investment". Of when Labour demanded that the already catastrophically expensive and unnecessary COVID measures that have basically killed the economy went further and harder. You saw my post and mistook it for a defence of the Tory record. They were as bad as you would expect a centrish party masquerading as a right wing one to be and deserved to lose. More than a year into a Labour Government who have done nothing but stamp their foot down on the accelerator for anything that isn't working and your choice is to defend that as them somehow taking steps to arrest the decline? Labour depend on people like you to excuse them every single time by saying "But the Tories!". It's why Wales keeps voting them into power despite a quarter of a Centuries worth of failure against every measure that matters. Your expectations are so low you will forgive them anything. I may be wrong, but if there's a mess to fix, it's generally accepted that the best thing to do isn't to make the mess considerably worse. Blaming the Tories doesn't wash any more. It wasn't the Tories who ramped up the taxes on employment, who started the capital flight, who failed to convince even their own members that maybe it isn't the best idea to let the sickness benefit bill keep spiralling out of control. That's all on Labour. Labour are doing what Labour always do. Taxing and spending. Problem is there's not much left to tax but they keep spending anyway. |

So the moron will undoubtedly try to put taxes up again, resulting in a "lower than expected" tax take, and so on. |

I like the idea of nobody being 100% certain of their place. Makes a difference from seeing Grimes on the teamsheet week in, week out no matter how shit he was playing. I suspect the way Eom ended last season strengthens his chances of starting this one in the side. Unless others are brought in I'd be surprised if Widell and Galbraith aren't currently certs to play alongside Franco too. |

Yep. Kaplan and Levein were easily worth a Billion between them. Perhaps closer to two. Didn't matter in the end. Success in one field certainly doesn't guarantee success in another. |

I have no idea. Haven't looked that closely. You know what they're like. To a man they'll cheerfully drop their knickers and bend over for whoever comes in promising to take them to their "rightful" place. If Vlad Putin turned up tomorrow with a firm bid they'd be fighting each other for the chance to make him welcome first. Quite funny to see how much they've turned on Tan after the embarassment they made of themselves a few years ago when he threatened to pull funding. |

A lifetime of arrogance, of being told that they're an actual, proper "Capitol" like London, of being treated as a special case by what should be a Government for the Nation instead of just for one parasitic city. They expect to be handed whatever they want just because of who they are. Wealthy owners. Success on the pitch. The respect of their peers. The concept of having to earn anything is alien to them. |
