Most unpleasant book you’ve ever read?

Just finished the audiobook of Stalingrad and some of the descriptions of how people suffered and died is appalling.

Varane being sold?
at 17:30 2 Jun 2025

The 'model' is to buy cheap, sell high. Even at £3m, that's a fourfold increase on what we paid out.

As much as it pains me to say it, say thank you, sell, go again. £3m is a quarter's worth of donations by our owner - it'd be difficult to reject it.

Mission Impossible Final Reckoning is good but not as good as the previous one. The action is great but the continued throwbacks at the start to the other films in the series are less interesting than McQ thinks they are.

I really wanted to like Joan after the first couple of episodes but it felt like a slog at the end.

Watched Trigger Point - the ITV drama about bomb disposal...man that went bad quickly.

Caught up with the Good Place recently; I watched the first few episodes a few years ago and gave up. Stuck with it this time and was rewarded.

Need to start the Last of Us season 2 and catch up with Andor too.

EMAILS - Hate them !!
at 14:54 19 May 2025

Instead of colour coding, all emails I'm CC'd into are sent to a folder. I open that folder when I have time. If people chase me on them, I respond I was only CCd so no expectation of action on my part.

I do this through a rule and have a similar one set up for spammy emails. Any email with the word 'unsubscribe' in the email gets put in a folder called - unsurprisingly - unsubscribe. I empty this VERY occasionally. When you first set it up, you might need to add a few exceptions. Otherwise, t works brilliantly. Last emptied in January it has - at time of writing - 7801 emails in it.

My inbox is currently zero. I process emails 4 times a day - first thing, mid am, lunch, 4pm. All emails are dealt with at that time. Only open each email once, deal with it. If it'll take longer than a few minutes, put it into the calendar as an activity and deal with it as part of the day. All emails are then filed outside the inbox folder when completed.

Don't use the reading pane - it distracts from which email is next.

Might we see a change in the offside law? Forest v Leicester, Elanga miles offside. No flag. Ball played in and Taiwo Awoniyi slides in. Ruptures an intestine and placed in a coma while its repaired.

All because of the phase of play crap.

What's needed? A player copping a head injury and fatality before they stop this obvious bullshít?

Just read them it's almost - and I may be very wrong here - he's calling out MC with 'bantz'.

They're asking for personal allegiance and self-regulation which go beyond the job. These traits aren't neutral; they imply cultural homogeneity and may exclude dissent or alternative thinking.
