How about a few “not a lot of people know thats”
at 06:58 27 Sep 2025

That reminded me of a passage in George Orwell's "Down and Out in Paris and London", where he describes the "two-penny hangover," a grim Victorian shelter where the truly destitute could pay to sit on a bench and lean over a rope for rest, falling forward when the rope was cut at dawn. This lodging experience, including the "penny sit-up" and the "four-penny coffin", exemplifies the extreme conditions of poverty he witnessed

Happy Birthday Spaceman - hope the Rs give you and us a good present. 40 Eh? those were the days.

I was told that 70 is the new 50 - still the resultant Driving awareness course wasn't too bad

Best flight/service/food etc on a plane

Bet that was a relief. I flew to Cyprus from Brize Norton on an RAF VC10 - it felt strange sitting on seats facing away from the direction of travel?

Best flight/service/food etc on a plane

Leaving Saudi in 1974 to go home for Christmas and my girlfriend after months of working in the desert...7 day week, all daylight hours, no drink, women etc. How simply fabulous to see the British Airways VC10 waiting for me. It arrived in Dhahran from the Emirates and had already been drunk dry by oil workers, returning home like I was. The flight was fabulous, smooth with clear visibility all the way and the inebriated passengers were a hoot, sang loudly and had a whip- round for the driver. Huge cheers and applause when we landed. Cabin crew were great.

I think we won a massive 4 games that season, all at home, ncluding that Stoke game, our final home fixture I think? I was there for each nail-biting one.

Have you ever caught the ball at a game?
at 15:32 4 Sep 2025

I've mentioned this before in other threads, but I was in the front row of the Loft, and as the team were warming up, practising shooting, I saved one-handed from an Adel Taraabt blockbuster that was heading straight for the head of the person for whom I was a carer at the time. A minute or so later I had to jump up and do a full stretch double-handed save again from the aforesaid Adel. "Sign him up, sign him up..." sang the crowd around us.

I'd like VAR to have had a look at that disallowed Grimsby goal - the assist was from a Manure player - even if it was the pass before that which was offside - it looked tight.

What a brilliant thread. I've shown it to Mrs Hants who is an avid, knowledgeable book reader and active member of a book club. She was impressed so well done all, my SAR ST is safe! For my own part, I love the Steinbeck novels with East of Eden and Grapes of Wrath still my favourites, even after reading them > 50 years ago.

...and before he was pushed, the defender pushed him! One could argue he was trying to create the necessary 1m space and besides, Eze still had to shoot in exactly the right space - travesty it wasn't allowed. Completely against the spirit of the game.

I remember Gerry Francis doing this much more obviously in the olden days...sigh

Super girl, one of our own.

I was reading about her again today, when solving the Sunday Times travel quiz. She was the footballer playing football in 'cages' when very young in Southall.

Clutch ?

Double de-clutching, gassing the gear, sliding the clutch... also, learning how to replace the clutch and pads due to too much of the aforesaid!

Jumpers for goal posts (and batteries), those were the days!

AA auto renewal came up at £323, quick online discussion with chat, (thinking of leaving, valued customer etc.) resulted in £113. With good discounts at IMO Car Wash, Greene King amongst others, that's a good deal.
