Ramming up the M1 - Match Thread

It’s not motivation or effort thats the issue. We need to sort out how we solve issue of more possession in certain games. I think we need to go 1 up front and play extra midfielder.

What’s the Swansea walk out song all about? Sounds a bit “country”?

What should QPR do with Sam Field moving forward?

Clearly i / most would love him in the squad. But is he happy being a player who is mostly on the bench? As squad improves, difficult to keep everyone happy.

He’s gone from anonymous to being our best midfielder. That’s a huge turnaround. With Burrell, Mbengue, he’s been our best player.

After Many A Summer Dies The Swan, Swansea Match Thread
at 10:54 23 Oct 2025

Pretty tired after getting back at 2am. If that last shot had gone in, think id have walked home to clear my head.

I thought first half they didnt look like scoring and I felt pretty relaxed. As can happen, sense of injustice seemed to drive Swansea on 2nd half. This isn’t helped by fact that we are at our best when we defend deep and hit on break rather than having to control possession. The 2nd goal would have killed the game. And despite missing the chances, the changes 2nd half did that.

Positives - Madsen, Mbengue and Burrell. For consistency, id say these are our best 3 players this season.
Also shout out to Field filling it at left back. Out of side but did a good job there for the team. Chair looks in good shape and up for it.

Negatives - Kone and Dunne both below par for me.

Agree Hayden should start over Varane. And Hayden was good first half but went missing 2nd half. But Varane, Chair and Dembele coming on did change the 2nd half so we actually looked threatening and created some chances.

Massive stroke of luck for them with Gerrard and Muscat turning it down. They’ve ended up with a good manager after all that!

I’m not sure even Watford would sack their manager after 1 game.

Chair Poku JCS were all available for selection today said the Club !!

Mention of Wrexham I’ve only seen on here, so you’re right on that. But pretty certain I saw something about Poku being back after first international break. Or was this on west London sport maybe?

Well I thought that might mean they could be on the bench for Wednesday. But we’ll see.

There does seem to be a real desire to move the ball forward quickly. And this doesn’t necessarily mean a long ball. But breaking at pace seems to be key to the style of play.

It’s one of those Veo cameras i think that tracks the ball only I think. Thought both Chair and Poku looked good.

Possession, nine-tenths of the problem? – Analysis
at 12:39 20 Oct 2025

Isn’t also that when you go behind, the other team sits back and defends and hits on the break? So, possession stats will change as you chase the game. I also think when you’re at home, you always tend to have more of the ball.

Yeah well obviously all 3 have been out for a bit so if they’ve only been back in full training recently, I was surprised they were “available for selection” on Saturday. At the very least they need to be eased back into it. Especially JCS.

Ok fair enough. I just thought a bad injury would be out until Christmas as an example. But I take your point it’s not minor.

On hamstring injuries, is it always as set as what you say though? Doesn’t it depend on when the player starts running again. Maybe he didn’t progress as planned. But I just don’t agree that we’re being lied to in this case. I also dont recall the club saying he’s be back for Wrexham, I thought it was back training in September. Anyway, let’s hope he’s at least on the bench on Wednesday.

Didn’t they say he’d be back training sometime in September after the 1st international break? Did they specify Wrexham? He’s in full training now. It’s not a bad injury.
