 | Forum Reply | Ramshackled R’s end three-game week on a bum note at Derby – Report at 23:16 27 Oct 2025
I think it is a mental problem for us to play three games in a week. Coventry beat Brum 3-0 at home, won 4-0 at Millwall midweek and then went up to Sheffield to destroy Wednesday 5-0 before the international break. They appeared to get stronger and two away games in three days with the travelling was a doddle. No doubt having a Champions League and Premier League winner as manager helps them as Lampard often played three games in a week with PL Saturday, CL Wednesday and PL Sunday. When asked how he coped with it his answer was you don't feel tired when you are winning and you want to play in every game. He has a winning mentality but it seems we still have mentally weak players as we have done for many years. |

Surely this is about mentality and whether the team convince themselves they are tired or not. Just look at Coventry. They played 3 games in 8 days before the international break and won all three. They have just played 3 games in 8 days straight after the international break and blow me they have won all three again. No issues of tiredness so presumably Lampard has instilled a winning mentality into them like you only feel tired when you are not winning.. The whole purpose of football is to put the ball in the net so barely mustering a shot to overturn a one goal deficit defeats the object of playing football. If you won't shoot when a goal down then why are you playing this sport? Were we really so tired we cannot kick a ball at the goal or cross a ball into the danger area? If the poor hapless darlings are already knackered before November perhaps they need to find another job which doesn't involve running, kicking a ball or travelling. [Post edited 25 Oct 22:28]

Two consecutive seasons we have been poor at Derby and never looked like we would score in either game. It is one thing to fall behind early in a game but it would be helpful if we actually tried to have some shots in the game. Poncing around with the ball posing no threat is meaningless. We have to have a go as Swansea did against us in the closing stages. A hugely frustrating watch, we are better than that. |

The crucial thing this time was we were winning when they were reduced to ten. Generally in the games we didn't win against 10 men we were not actually in front at the time of the sending off. It is an issue that we had 65 minutes to make the game safe and didn't. Swansea stayed in the game and had a go at the end with nothing to lose at such a late stage. |

Hinchcliffe was doing the Owls v Boro game tonight at least keeping him away from our game. |

We have a very nasty habit of not being able to score against 10 men so it was lucky we scored before they went down to 10 otherwise it probably would have ended 0-0. Hopefully we will be better at Derby as last season we were terrible at their place. |

I thought it was illegal to set off fireworks after midnight on Diwali night and 5 November. Are the local police deaf they can't hear them going off in the small hours to put a stop to it? |

After beating Bristol we were above Charlton and Bristol. Now two games later we trail the Robins by 4 points and Charlton by 3. When the league is so tight one loss and you suddenly drop to mid table. |

I might be wrong but have we lost three in a row to Millwall not that I want to remember such things? The warning for us was Millwall beating West Brom 3-0 in their previous match. We haven't won any of our last six meetings with the Baggies so the starting line up was puzzling to say the least to face a team unbeaten away. We have now frittered away 5 points in two home games that were winnable. Resting players is bordering on throwing games just to save them with another three games in 8 days schedule. Now we have 5 subs we should try and get the game won then hook players for a rest. Instead we are bringing on players resting as things are not going to plan. I suspect that is why the changes only happened after an hour rather than at half time. |

Not overly surprised to lose as we are not brilliant in derby matches. It was noticeable how well Millwall defended seeing they recently lost 4-0 at home to Coventry but then again it shows how well Coventry have been playing. Millwall did beat West Brom 3-0 before the international break, a team we haven't beaten for some time so today's result is not entirely surprising. |

It seems I have to apologise for being lazy suggesting the three relegated teams will be in the promotion picture at the end of the season. Maybe their starts are not brilliant albeit Ipswich are unbeaten in five and Leicester are third. The general standard of teams is not great so having financial clout will help particularly in the January transfer window if the clubs with money are not where they want to be. With 37 games to go an awful lot will happen over the coming months. Birmingham may be below us but on Saturday morning they were above us so it is very tight for now. As for Wrexham their away form is good. Their problems lie in not winning at home which we know only too well. Anyway none of this has much to do with Frank Lampard's Coventry and this thread. Absolutely agree with you. I would like Lampard as our manager. To hell with his Chelsea connection he is a winner. Having won Champions League and Premier League titles as a player the man knows what it takes to achieve success. Lest people forget, Dave Sexton had been at Chelsea before he oversaw our best ever team and we have had good players who previously played for Chelsea. Lampard has made Coventry an ever better team with an attack attitude. To win consecutive away games 4-0 and 5-0 a few days apart is excellent. When do we win like that at the New Den or Hillsborough? For a team with just 5 wins it is some stat to have a plus 20 GD. Whether it will last is another matter as the parachute teams Leicester, Ipswich and Southampton are likely to be in the mix at the end of the season so too early to say if Lampard can keep them playing attacking football. |

Bit harsh on Coventry to include them in the poor teams category. Won all their games this week on an aggregate score of 12-0 and already have a plus 20 GD. I agree with the rest of your post but we should be third but chose to make life difficult for ourselves against Oxford |

We would be third if we had done the job against Oxford which we should have done. Oh well very satisfied with today's result after a fairly inept first half. |

Three games in a week for Coventry. Won all three, scored 12, conceded none. No issues about rotating the squad for them. Looks to be a huge gulf between us and Coventry and not just because they stuffed us. Wednesday's one goal and point against us is all they have achieved at Hillsborough so far. Then we can't beat league 1 standard Oxford at home so a lot of work still to be done with our squad. |

Top quality report as ever and summed up better than I could ever put it. The frustrating thing is we should have played the strongest team to beat Oxford and at least have 4 points for the week. It seemed we had more of an eye on Bristol than on Oxford looking at the team selection. If we lose tomorrow then 2 points from 9 is a poor return. We all know when we make wholesale changes to the team for cup games we invariably lose which is why so many lower league teams knock us out. In Wrexham's defeat to us, they identified their defence lacked pace and subsequently they have played defenders with more pace. So there we are facing Oxford at home and take all the pace out of the team and hey presto, we look useless in the final third and create absolutely nothing. Frey's shot on goal was described by Sky as our best chance of the game. I would not consider a 25 yarder by Frey as even a chance to score. In true QPR tradition we played two teams in the bottom 3 and didn't win and looked reasonably lousy in both. Quality in our squad is still in short supply but at least we have some pace now. I think we only had one shot on goal at Bristol last season and escaped with a point. Bristol are unpredictable like us so you can't be sure what to expect from them. They won 3-0 at Wednesday while we laboured to a draw but then lost at home to Oxford so one expects they will play better against us. |
 | Forum Reply | Players Performance assessed by television viewers as against fans at the game. at 20:47 3 Oct 2025
Perhaps the tv commentary has an influence which you don't get at the game. Generally those who describe the action on tv say who they think has been good and those not having such a good day. People at the game don't get led what to think by commentary so not surprising they view it differently. |
 | Forum Reply | M40 pile up Witnail and I edition - Qpr vs Oxford Match Thread at 22:56 1 Oct 2025
Have to agree with this. The commentator at the Sheffield game made a point about us having the worst record of results in 3 game weeks in the Championship. There is no doubt in my mind the manager is aware of this and made changes tonight as Oxford the weakest opponent of the week. As a result we got a feeble footie game that would have Sky viewers cancelling their subscriptions. Messrs Warnock and Mackie were bored by our showing. Neither could understand why we made 5 changes when you can bring on 5 subs during the game. Like many of us, they believe we should play our strongest team in home games and go all out to win them and not worry about the next away game. We forfeited a winnable game tonight to save players for Bristol. Warnock was rather critical of the manager then commenting that Bristol have an extra day to prepare which sounds like he is getting excuses in early if we don't win. He reckons comments like that should be kept between the coaching staff and not aired on tv for the players to hear as it's defeatist. I think he has a point and as the last manager to bring us any success his views carry some weight. |

That was the third game already this season that Brum scored in stoppage time to gain bonus points. Might not be that good but they don't give up. |

The Americans late fightback that just failed was similar to Borussia Munchengladbach trailing 6-0 to Eintracht Frankfurt at the weekend as the game ended 6-4 with a late fighback by the home team. Basically Frankfurt won the first half 5-0 and Gladbach won the second half 4-1. Totally bonkers. |
