It's a genuine source of irritation to me that we have to talk about Chris Samba when talking about our record transfer fees, that was the least subtle bit of dodgy book keeping ever. |

It's a gamble on promise because he's got things you can't teach (raw pace and power). If everything clicks, you've got a £40m player there. I don't think there's a player in our squad today you could say that about. Of course, getting things to click is the key... |

It begs the question, who was the last player that we brought in that wasn't rated by his prior club that ended up being a success for us? Sam Field? It doesn't generally work out well. |

Agree on this, I read a lot of this thread before I saw the incident and on that basis I expected it to be a little more nuanced but he clearly moves towards the ball and did so arm first, even if it was by his side |

The "mobile" versions are a decent blend of detail/features without going too over the top. Although they have got last in the last few years and just updated the database without changing anything. Series hit it's peak with CM01-02 in my opinion. There's still a community that updates that game and releases a new version every 6 months or so with an updated database. So you can play with latest players/divisions etc |
 | Forum Reply | Solving the 'we only ever play 45 minutes' problem? at 22:07 17 Aug 2025
It feels particularly pronounced this time but I think a lot of it is just the flow of the game. Nobody in the championship is really massively better or worse than the other teams. If you start well, you're more likely to score. If you're winning you're more likely to sit back, and if you sit back, you're letting the opposition control the game. Against Preston we looked good in the first half when it was tied, then we scored and came up defensive in the second half and looked awful. Against Watford we looked terrible until they scored and sat back, then we grew into the game. The very best teams are able to stay on top even when they have the advantage. It's something we need to be better at. |

In this instance I would assume it's because Burrell has spent the last couple of weeks in and around the team, in training sessions, got a feel for his team mates what their preferences are how they play etc. Kone hasn't, but by this time next week will have |

I'm not sure that we learned anything new today. We have the players to look threatening going forwards in phases, but our defence is woeful and subject to counterattacks and down the wings especially without first choice fullbacks. Yes second half was better but that's because Watford stopped bothering. |

I like him. I have a high degree of confidence that whoever buys him is going to be able to sell him for a profit in 18 months. But I just don't think that we have the disposable income to throw at this when we have gaping holes that are a necessity rather than a luxury. |

It's an interesting position to be in. A theoretical £30k a week wage at Sheffield Wed that you might or might not eventually get paid vs a legitimate £15k wage elsewhere from an actually solvent club. (Numbers completely made up, I have no idea what Lowe is on) |

Whatever we are doing, it isn't working. And didn't last year either. It's happening under his watch and maybe it's bad luck or maybe it's his methods, but either way bringing him out and praising him in a way which has never been done before leaves a very bad taste and makes it seem like the board here take us for mugs. |

A little hard to tell from the stats there but it seems like he hasnt failed to score 20 goals in a season for..many years? That's remarkable when you consider that he's been consistently stepping up each year in quality of opposition. Lots to be excited about here. |

The players were the ones on the pitch tonight but I think this is the rare occasion where you can't put a ton of blame at their feet. It's a managers job to put people in a position to succeed and the individuals job to execute on that. Doesn't feel like the players were set up to succeed today. Equally it doesn't feel like JS was set up to succeed today, if we start with the assumption that it wasn't his choice to play 11 new players and throw in a few youngsters for their debuts without the benefit of any real senior support. |

I've never worked for a football club but I do have some sense of self preservation, if I started a new job and my boss told me to do something which was likely going to end up in something which reflected badly on me then I'd push back gently but if he insisted, I'd do it. I'd also start questioning whether I'd made the right decision in joining that company. |
