In an ideal world yes, but if we have a disappointing season and he struggles to perform in a poor team we might not get anywhere near £5m next year. I'd still prefer to take the risk and keep him though, think of him as money well spent rather than what we could've cashed in for. Unless we get an offer we can't say no to or he wants to go. |

Apparently so, I agree it's mad but my Real Madrid mate reckons it's mostly to keep a positive relationship with Liverpool while also generating excitement/fan engagement ahead of and during the CWC, additionally it boosts their chances of doing well in the tournament given the obscene prize money available. RM clearly think it's a shrewd move and a risk worth taking, for Liverpool it's a no brainer. |

The scum had less than 32500 at home in the semi final. Tonight they’ve sold 11000 from an allocation of 12500. I know it’s a bit of a tin pot tournament but their ‘support’ is also tin pot. |

I presume they’re keeping it to sell it to themselves at some point as a FFP work around. |

I thought at the start of the season we should've signed an experienced back-up for Nardi and sent both Cooper and Walsh out on loan. This has been a wasted season for Walsh, he won't have developed much sitting on the bench all season. |

Because if they did that they wouldn't have anything to hide behind when they don't want to apply the rules consistently. |

I think you’re letting your dislike of the referee cloud your judgement. First & foremost he has a duty of care towards the players, that’s what he was prioritising. |

To be fair, the ref was focused on the welfare of the injured player rather than finding the guilty party. |

I thought he was decent, I can’t recall any errors and didn’t notice him too much which is always a good sign. |

I wonder if, like last season, some of our players are still building up fitness and therefore we're trying to control the pace of games and manage our intensity levels a bit. Throw in the fact we've now got several players who need to adapt to the pace of the Championship too and maybe we need to expect our intensity to ebb and flow. However, if we're trying to control the game we need to keep the ball better and close out space when we haven't got the ball. Work in progress all round I'd say. |

In that case I don't think we'd be able to do anything until Jan when we could agree a pre-contact ahead of his contract expiring. Seems we're in a pretty good position for both of them then, happy days. |
 | Forum Reply | Eze release clause at 14:41 19 Aug 2024
2. The selling club might decide they would rather keep the player than have the transfer fee. In which case they could offer the player a new contract on better terms. I don't agree with that, it would make the release clause pointless. If a club meets the release clause and the player wants to go, there's nothing the selling club can do. In Spain, release clauses have to be paid in full. Clubs either negotiate to spread payments but pay a higher fee, or they borrow money from a lender (usually a bank) to pay the release fee then spread the repayments. I presume they work in the same way here. |
 | Forum Reply | Should Dykes play alongside Field in midfield at 08:21 18 Aug 2024
I think Dykes best position is more of a 10/deep CF. He’s played it before and looked useful, and if played with Celar ahead of him and 2 of Chair/Dembele/Saito either side he’d bring some physical presence which would otherwise be missing. |
