 | News Comment | The Ugly Inside Verdict On Southampton’s 2025/26 Shirt at 14:12:19
The introduction of shirt sponsors on the front and the players' names on the back ruined striped kits. Also the modern TV multi billion game has nothing to do with the clubs traditions anymore. I'd prefer a new predominantly red shirt with perhaps a nod to our past but not these substandard re-hashes from the 70's and 80's. |
 | News Comment | Southampton Squad Should They Stay Or Should They Go ! Part 6 at 12:23:28
Whilst ultimately the "stay or go" decisions will be made on a financial basis - money generated, wage bill trimmed, who has suitors etc - this strand has been really interesting in gauging different opinions. I feel we need to plan on a two year basis rather than simply on getting promotion, however difficult that is. We need to own at least five Premier League standard players when promoted and then add four more if we are to survive. Last year, we spent money on making our loans permanent and only Ramsdale and Fernandes were genuine upgrades. I think it's time to shed those players that have been through two relegations or can only do a job in the championship and focus on those still with potential. |
 | News Comment | Southampton On Verge of Tall Paul Transfer To Turkey at 14:06:03
Not sure of the rationale here. A desperate Saints paid way over the odds in January 23 for a very, limited player... And then promptly sacked the manager that wanted him. Since then we've tried to get our money back. I'm not sure why our premier League inflated valuation is more legitimate than the Turkish club whose valuation will be based on the amount they have paid his team mates. |
 | News Comment | Spors and Co Should Switch Focus To Sales at 09:16:44
It's certainly going to be a very difficult summer. Whilst accepting a few players will leave and will have suitors - Ramsdale, THB, Fernandes, Dibling - a lot won't, having played well below their current wages and original transfer fees. These older players will be difficult to shift and we may end up selling our youngsters with potential, to make up the financial shortfall - Charles, Edozie, Edwards. Last time it was Lavia, Livramento, Tella who went. This time Leeds are reportedly interested in Charles not Downes or Aribo. |
 | News Comment | Will Russell Martin Break Rangers Transfer Record In Southampton Raid at 09:29:47
It appears from the Echo article that we've got a lot of players that we could do with getting rid of with only one year left on their contract. Pretty sure they will be keen to stay on the wage bill and leave as free agents next year. I suspect loans with subsidized wages will be the only way to move them on and reduce the wage bill. |
 | News Comment | Rangers Supporters Are Not Enthused By The Appointment Of Russell Martin at 12:08:26
Saints were a complete shambles when RM arrived. He and Wilcox managed to restructure the team and create a coherent, competitive squad with a clear style that ultimately got us promoted, albeit by the back door. The failure was that RM's over confidence in that squad and the general hype after Wembley meant that we failed to improve it with the required quality and simply increased the squad size with average players. RM's inexperience didn't help in the face of some awful results and the resulting ebbing away of confidence from those players that had overachiever the year before. Saints fans are more divided over RM than you suggest and many of us wish him well at Rangers. |
 | News Comment | Southampton Squad Should They Stay Or Should They Go ! Part 2 at 10:43:22
Keep Sugawara and Bree. We should have more of the ball in an attacking sense so Sugawara might do better. Personally, I think it's Welington or Larios and Taylor or Manning for LB with two going. Keep Welington and Manning, Larios on loan to get full fitness and Taylor sold. |
 | News Comment | Returning Loan Players Could Be Crucial For Southampton at 14:04:14
Agree with a lot of the comments. I'd loan Bazunu to a side that needs a shot stopper. See if he can be successful over a full season. Despite his limitations, McCarthy is a solid championship option. Really hope we play 4 at the back. If we are to be challenging for promotion we really need to keep Fernandes in front of Downes and Charles. Agree with comments about Arma. Think it might be time to let him go. |
 | News Comment | Saudi Arabian Billionaire Interested In Buying Southampton at 13:23:41
Completely agree with all the comments. No thanks. Particularly agree about Simon Jordan. Loathe the man. Totally overrated half-wit that got lucky with some investments. Completely in the thrall of "business and the markets" and drones on about life being a "meritocracy". Tell that to the families in Gaza, Sudan, Ukraine... |
 | News Comment | Southampton At West Ham United The Verdict at 12:52:11
Call me a cynic but this is a team of individuals desperate to prove they are better than their abject performances so far. The bulk of the team won't be here next year. Ramsdale, THB, Fernandes, Dibling will help balance the books. KWP, Stephens and Lesley are out of contract. Bednarek, Kamaldeen, Downes, Onuachu and Archer are all hoping for moves or loans. Rusk will be hoping for a lower league manager's job. No problem with the performance but let's no kid ourselves that they are committed to being the spine of the championship side next year. |
 | News Comment | Forgotten Men Could Play Crucial Part For Saints Next Season at 13:59:23
I really hope Sport Republic and Johannes Spors are working hard on next season behind the scenes and not waiting for the new manager. Spors will appoint the manager and should know both the preferred style of play, those players that will be here and those that will leave to balance the cost of relegation end of contract etc. One thing that helped Saints after the last relegation was that Wilcox and Martin were clearly on the same page. |
 | News Comment | Who Wil Return From The Cold For Southampton After Juric Exit at 14:39:10
Saints need to use the early relegation to prepare for next year. Decide who is staying and send them on holiday after Easter to return early for an extended pre-season with the new manager. Let those that are going, play out the meaningless last seven games- self interest should ensure they put in some sort of shift. Double Fernandes' pay and refuse to sell him! |
 | News Comment | German Club In Contact With Southampton About Winger at 15:28:43
I guess this stuff will continue as infinitum for months now. Of the starting team at Anfield it is very possible that only Smallvine and Manning will be here next year given the loan returns, those out of contract and those that need to be sold/ want to leave. Given that Juric is also likely to go, the rest of the season as an indicator of Saints future seems pretty irrelevant. |
 | News Comment | Southampton V Burnley The FA Cup Preview at 17:25:25
Juric was pretty clear in his press conference. He will play a strong team on a match by match basis unless the games are very close together. I expect it to be a similar team to the Ipswich game with Wood coming in for THB. He also explained that Armstrong instigated the loan, presumably to get game time and his confidence back. If he scores loads great, his value increases and he might even come back in the summer to sign a new contract ( unlikely) . |
 | News Comment | Adam Armstrong Leaves For West Bromwich Albion On Loan at 17:04:38
I think despite his work rate his confidence is gone in front of goal. A good end of the season at West Brom getting a few goals in the championship is much better than being a periferal figure in the Premier League missing the odd chance that might come his way. As you say it's all about next season. We know that anybody of any value will be sold and I think Armstrong will be in the final year of his contract. Either his value might increase or he will sign a new contract. |
 | News Comment | Southampton At Nottingham Forest The Verdict at 15:18:15
Being competitive for 45 mins isn't really much to shout about. Most mid table championship sides can be competitive against a Premier League outfit for part of any game but still will ship three goals at some point! Saints are simply in the wrong division and the ridiculous euphoria and hype that followed the Play off final masked that fact. As a result, with the exception of Ramsdale, the transfers were squad players or like for like replacements rather than quality upgrades meaning the first team squad is essentially the same as the one that came fourth in the championship. It's been a heavy price to pay for a good day out at Wembley. |
