If these all come to fruition, I've got Edwards, Armstrong, Brereton- Diaz sold or loaned in addition to Edozie and Aribo. We must enjoy this moment of hope before cruel reality sets in. |
 | Forum Reply | Ronnie Edwards at 13:57 28 Aug 2025
We've got six centre backs including Charlie Taylor so something has to give, I guess. Quashie and Stephens are nailed on. THB has no suitors so he will stay. Wood has done the best so far so Edwards would be the one to go on loan. However, like others posters I'd like to see him tried as a defensive midfielder alternating with Downes if Charles is playing further forward as seems the preference. Whatever happens we need to establish a first choice centre back partnership and commit to it not the endless three at the back rotation. |
 | Forum Reply | We will be weaker when transfer window closes. at 20:21 21 Aug 2025
Teams are always weaker in terms of personel after relegation, with the better ones sold to balance the financial impact. On the plus side we are playing weaker teams in the Championship. After two relagations our team is significantly weaker than the one that was competitive in the Premier League some years ago. We will have to build again I guess. |
 | Forum Reply | Quarshie at 19:18 20 Aug 2025
Quarshie is very right footed and might be better on the right side of the defence. Edwards was excellent for QPR last year playing in the centre of the defence, clearing things up rather than as a combative CB against a strong forward. I'd like to see a back three of Woods, Edwards and Taylor against Norwich in the cup if THB, Stephens and Quarshie is the first choice against Stoke. |

Talking of full backs and Preston. Thierry Small seemed to do very well for them yesterday, brilliant cross for their winning goal. |

I guess the result is all that matters and we know it's really early in the season, but Saints were very, very poor tonight. No movement so slow passing in possession. No cohesion on the pitch, second best in most challenges and nobody going past defenders from a Div One team. Will Still has been lucky so far but we will need to improve massively on Sunday against Ipswich. |

Fair play to all those banging on about the importance of experience. Stephens our best defender by some distance.Quashie and Edwards inexperienced against the likes of Windows and Moore. Manning and Fraser both showed up well and Manning's goal was class. Thought Charles and Robinson did well and Downes worked hard. Still waiting for the strikers to turn up. |

For what it's worth. I like this shirt and would have been quite happy with a red version and a yellow version for the home and away kits. Too much time on my hands! |

I've not got it in for Jack Stephens but last season was horrific and the scars will linger on. We can only play two centre backs and Jack can't be one of them. Edwards/ Wood and Quashie should surely be our first choice. They all have enough experience at championship level and the potential to get better if properly coached and developed. |

Love watching the Lionesses. Couldn't care less whether Tuchel's over-hyped, over-paid Prima Donna's win anything. |
 | Forum Reply | Squad for Spain trip looks like a bit of a cull at 16:35 21 Jul 2025
If you include the injured players as possible squad members we are still at 31. Only Bednarek and ABK, who have played no part in pre-season so far, are definitely excluded unless Dibling, Matzuki, THB and Downes are absent for reasons other than injury. |

I've no real idea how Saints finances look or how much they need to raise from player sales and a reduced wage bill but I'll be surprised if it's much short of £100 million. Last time we sold Livramento, Lavia, JWP and Tella for about £140 million plus Salisu, Caletta-Carr, Perraud, Lyanco, Diallo and a good few loans to reduce the wage bill. We then used the loan system extensively ourselves for THB, Downes, Brooks, Frazer. I think we only bought Manning. Maybe it won't be as bad this time but I'll be surprised if Still can keep the limited list of saleable assets evenif he wants to. |

Really hope you are right and SR make up the relegation financial shortfall by selling Ramsdale, Bednarek, THB, Aribo etc whilst keeping the younger ones with potential Edwards, Charles, Fernandes, Dibling etc. Unfortunately, if we are still £70 million short at the end of August those will be the players that have buyers regardless of the managers plans. |

Ipswich and Coventry promoted. Saints in top half chasing me play -offs. |
 | Forum Reply | Who are the players that Will Still says want to leave? at 15:54 14 Jul 2025
I think Still said BBC and Armstrong are in his plans if they want to be. Ultimately so much of this isn't in SR's hands. If nobody comes in for Ramsdale presumably we will have to loan him out abroad whilst subsidising his wages. Assuming THB, Bednarek and Bella Kotchap want to go but if there are no offers for them but there are for Ronnie Edwards, Edozie, Charles and Fernandes we may end up selling our youngsters rather than those that have blotted their copy book last year. Apparently Dibling might opt to stay and run down his contract so a cheap sale there is possible. |
 | Forum Reply | Little Happening On The Transfer Front at 12:57 12 Jul 2025
Like last year his options seem to be limited to the promoted clubs. Apparently Bournemouth are signing the Chelsea keeper for more than Ragsdale. Newcastle are after Trafford which means Pope could be a solid cheap option for Leeds. Not sure he will be on his way despite his England aspirations and Saints desperate to get their money back. |
 | Forum Reply | Full Scale Replica Of Titanic To Launch Sail From Southampton at 19:48 25 Jun 2025
In all seriousness, my Dad and Grandad wouldn't watch any film version or entertainment about the Titanic because of the number of Southampton working class families who lost loved ones who were part of the crew and staff on the ship, never valued or properly recompensed. |
