Despondency

This

I’ve not been able to work out what the instructions are for the players so far

Are we going for ball retention? Are we looking to hit teams fast on the break (no sniggering at the back) what is it we’re trying to do? Whatever it is, it’s been pretty dull so far.

We look so slow and ponderous compared to other teams.

Not good enough
at 16:22 14 Sep 2025

The only game I’ve not seen so far is the Watford game. All the rest I’ve watched we’ve started miles off the pace. Today we set a very low bar to make that lot look half decent. Pinned back and lumping the ball forward to Archer with Shaughnessy marking him seemed to be our modus operandi. Second half was a bit better. Don’t look like scoring many goals from open play at the moment this season.
It’s only 5 games as someone else said but jeez, that was shite.

What have we become?

Why would that upset anyone?

I’ve supported Saints for the same length of time. I’d like us to be playing at the highest level. Not having VAR spoiling games though is lovely. I’ll take the wins where I can at the moment.

We have/are becoming a championship team whether we're ok with it or not.

Sports Republic have taken an established premier league club and made it much much worse in footballing terms. I have no belief that the people making the big decisions on football will suddenly start getting it right now. Until they bugger off we are in purgatory.

I didn't go yesterday but I watched the Chelsea v Fulham game yesterday and VAR once again favouring the bigger club, I can't say I long for us to return to the premier league to suffer that once more either.

With regards to the football, the start of the season has been quite poor in my opinion. 2 late goals against a newly promoted team giving us our only 3 points so far. Let's see where we are after 10 games though, transfer window shut, new signings bedded in...

Bella-Kotchap gone to Verona on loan
at 12:21 27 Aug 2025

As a Saints fan I’m delighted he’s out the door
As a Hellas Verona fan (heading out to see them again in November/December hopefully) I am hoping he gets his career back on track at the Bentigodi.

Verona possess one of the best keepers in Serie A (Montipo), I wouldn’t mind us getting him in goal.

He is very good, we should have been in for him last season.

The save he made from THB and the quick throw out from Frasers poor cross that led to their second were two particular highlights of his from yesterday.

The season so far
at 10:39 24 Aug 2025

Who is writing him off here?

All I said was improvement was needed. We always seem to be outcompeted by other teams. It’s been a problem at the club for about 7/8 years.

Try not project a narrative that isn’t there old boy.

The season so far
at 07:06 24 Aug 2025

3 games in (4 if you include Northampton) and we’ve been behind in every league game we’ve played. We start at such a pedestrian pace. Stokes second goal yesterday when they were down to ten men was very reminiscent of the many goals we conceded last season, caught on the break. I can’t remember the last time we scored a goal from breaking away flooding forwards. Plodding football seems to be ingrained in our club at present.

Improvement definitely needed in how we start games.

5 Things From The Wrexham Game
at 10:38 11 Aug 2025

The Referee was awful. Truly awful.

I was sat in the Itchen yesterday (towards the Northam) and thought the Northam was loud at the start/end, a bit flat in-between for obvious reasons. The Wrexham fans were silent until their football in a library outburst. There's acoustic discrepancies it would appear depending on where you are sat.

Was odd seeing a few hardy souls standing in the Chapel next to the away fans. From small acorns do mighty oak trees grow I suppose.

How lovely to walk out the ground after a late goal deciding a game at St Mary's and it being for us.

I think Wrexham will be there or there abouts, but for their time wasting tactics/gamesmanship - I was delighted it bit them on the arse at the end. The nagging annoyance though is when will we start learning the dark arts and applying them. We're still too nice for my liking.

So, why didn't Ross Stewart start?
at 10:18 11 Aug 2025

I thought he’d be in the starting line up if he was fully fit.
One thing I did notice Saturday, I remained in the ground for a period of time after the game finished and he was being given an individual warm down well after our other players had stopped. I guess our medical team are managing him with great care after his problems and perhaps even if he is fit they are gradually going to introduce him to 90 minutes competitive football for fear of him getting crocked again

Didn’t realise Downes had been rushed back, I thought he looked out of sorts and put it down to early season rustiness.

Our one hope is that Russell Martin may now want Bazunu up at Rangers if he goes there.

It depends what style of football we are going to play next season but if it’s not a form of Russ ball…I’d rather Mccarthy than Bazunu
But rather have Forster than McCarthy if those were the choices

If we could buy someone rather than get them on a free then the fella from Stoke (who was at Rotherham previously)

It’s all irrelevant anyway as Bazunu will be back as number one if he’s fit I’ve a feeling next season.

Off to Derry~Londonderry via Dublin then Belfast tomorrow to help my youngest son pack up and return home for summer from university.

Sicily in July for a concert in Taormina and a few days there.

Looking at some winter sun as a main break this year. Be nice to get away from the cold at the end of the year.

I don’t blame him, I blame the people who appointed him

He’d have wanted nothing other than to be successful here.

The way our karma constantly bites us on the arse I hope our fans just let it be. Same applies for Russell Martin if he comes back next season as Leicester manager.

5 Things About The Arsenal Game
at 12:08 26 May 2025

Went for a pint in the dell pub at the ground, seems nice inside.

After that I had another beer in the fanzone at the back of the Northam. Band were good but getting served in there was chaotic. Quite sobering going from the atmosphere of that to standing in the ground with the reality of 90+ minutes of football to watch. I can see why Pat gave the game a swerve.

Our subs once again came to the away teams rescue…

Got the first train home I could at 18:55, it was rammed with gobby arsenal fans. Never realised what a bunch of dribblers they have in their fan base. Definitely on par with spurs and Chelsea gobshites.

Thank goodness it’s all over.

What happens to Rusk and Lallana now ?
at 08:48 26 May 2025

Rusk will return to his old role I assume. He was only the interim manager. His old role will have been left open for him.

As for Lallana, who knows. I’m guessing he’s not going to be playing next season.
