Very happy as a Donegal supporter but tough on Mayo yesterday. The draw would have taken both teams through & Donegal would still have finished second, but shows their mentality that after Mayo equalised they went straight down the other end and scored the winning point with the last kick of the match.
It was a bit risky as losing the ball could have given Mayo the chance to win and Donegal would have finished below them. The safe option was to kick the ball out and take the draw, but they obviously wanted the win and eliminated a difficult opponent from the competition at the same time.
I must also admit I'm enjoying the new rules as they make for exciting games.
Would add to this list my old school, Cardinal Vaughan in Addison Rd, Kensington, which featured as a Police Station in S3 Ep 13 as per attached link (27 minutes in).
It's amazing that you maintain such a high standard in your reports, previews and analysis throughout the season. It can't have been easy this during our 2024/25 campaign. If our players, management and Board showed anywhere near your level of dedication throughout the season we would be heading for the Premier League.
Thanks for all your hard work and enjoy your summer. See you back in the C&S in August.
After returning home, I saw that clip of their players running back when Dembele was on a break. No sign of any of ours running in support of Dembele though. Even if we can't afford players who can match the quality of that opposition, it would be great to have players showing that attitude. Very impressive from Burnley, the clean sheet obviously mattered to them.
Thanks Clive for putting together an impressive preview after a very busy weekend for you.
I think we will miss the defensive workrate of Smyth & Saito today. If we start with Dembele, Yang & Madsen (and/or Andersen) we could be very open. Hope I'm wrong, but suspect Morrison's impressive starting stats could finally take a knock with a 2-1 defeat.
So many keepers commit and make it easy for this type of penalty taker. If more acted like Pope, far more would be saved and this style would probably fade away.
I've gone for Smyth at Bristol City. Not just for the distance but the composure he showed. It would have been easy to go down to try to get the keeper sent off (which judging by similar scenarios would have given no advantage to us) but for once he stayed on his feet and finished well.
