Work for QPR

When it says doctor, is that a medical doctor or another spin doctor?

Asking for a friend.

One For The Oldies!
at 10:56 7 Jun 2025

Always gives me the chance to recall how a mate and fellow QPR fan and I were travelling in 2002, and we managed to blag our way back into the Estadio Jalisco after a game and got talking to the security guards, who promptly invited us to tread the turf.

Whereupon we got them to participate in a 'Phoenix from the Flames'. They looked slightly worried after we got one of their crew to be Jarzinho out wide to cross an imaginary vall to me to head toward gial, only for Kev, in a QPR shirt, to pull off 'that' save, again. Whereupon, we were deemed muy loco and pointed to the door.

About a year later, a mate of mine was visiting an old colleague who had recently married an American and had moved over there. The pair went for a few beer and after a while, the new resident said, "I do miss British humour...I heard a funny story from a couple on holiday here a few weeks back. There's these lads travelling and they were in the stadium where Banks made that save, and they.....". My mate phissed himself and added, "They're QPR fans!"

My consumption of English newspapers these days is what the BBC site posts of the front and back pages.

I never thought I'd say this about The Star, but hats off to them with: Season Three CANCELLED!

Your post sums up the inherent problem on the matter of health/diet, and the confusion it causes people trying to fathom what to do. I think your views on breakfast are wrong and yet, I'd be the first to agree that if they work for you, they're grrrreeeat!! (See what I did there?)

While aware of the argument that Kelloggs' invented breakfast to sell cornfkakes, it's not actually right. Homo sappiens have been happily 'breaking' their 'fasts' for eons without incident, and many people today eat breakfast oblivious to the input of Kelloggs.

However, the issue for me is that overly sugar laden breakfast cereals have given breakfast itself, a bad name. Equally, there's a lot of science backing up the benefits of eating a good healthy breakfast over a poor or no breakfast at all.

Me? I find a good breaky plays a role in better hunger management, performance etc. I've been a regular porridge eater for 20 years. I soak oats overnight in a plant milk and add a cornucopia of goodness from: spices, fruits, seeds, nuts, and yoghurt giving me early morning fibre, protein, and nutrients.. And yet, I could find nutrionists who'd criticise that and many folks who function as well by not eating my morning muesli.

When it comes to diet, it's what works for you on the one hand, and having a diet that's focused on whole foods and not processed crap.

Fella, we all know the development of talent has been woeful for decades. It doesn't need restating!

My point: before we all get excited, then let's at least wait for something tangible. I'm all for following the development of players and praising the set-up when it delivers. Indeed, the DS win was the best £3 spent following the Rangers, but as I replied to another poster, signing kids for the DS shouldn't be 'front page' in my view; there's such a way to go between there and the First XI. I also asked the other bloke: Do other clubs make such a splash signing DS players? Maybe they do.

As with the DS Cup win and a few players breaking into the starting XI, when there's something to shout about then, by all means: shout, shout, let it all out!

Spurs are a lot like QPR when it comes to managers. When they appoint one, its worth getting a head start on searching for his replacement.

"..So your looking at this from your angle,.." Odd thing to say. Aren'twe all espousing our views?.

No, I wouldn't be putting them on the 'front page' they're kids, done nothing, signed for potential, totally unknown entities, and yes, I think it looks a bit Mickey 'fcking'Mouse!! And having a bloke a few years older than them spouting Nourryspeak adds what? They probably think he sounds a plum like half this board.

Do other clubs herald the signing of kids as much? I've no idea. For me, when they've done something more worthy of the QPR 'front page' then yes, print and be damned. In fact, make a hoo-har then might act as more of an incentive to others.

Listen, good luck to them. Good luck to the coaches and development programme to deliver up a supply of quality players. It really doesn't need you or others to state the obvious significance of the DS working; the majority of us have been discussing the point for decades.

Said the self same thing the other day.

This type of thing should almost be a footnote, not being treated as the club giving us the winning lottery numbers. There's so much between here and them making it, that we've really got nothing to see here, just yet.

Can't help thinking that most players are going to hold off until they know who the manager is. Which is down to Kim Jung/QPR...again!

Pets..

Bloke hug fella.

I was two when the surgeon said to, Ma and Pa Planet, "Master Planet needs a bit of his leg amputated...get a cat to keep him company". For the next nine years, we were inseparable.

I appreciated what Danny the cat did for me. Its why I've always taken one in. The current larakin, Kipling, rescued in the backstreets of Yangon.

As Brian said, they are a gift. I still look at pics of the cats I've had and say thank you. If there is a heaven and pets aren't included, then I'm off.

I hope you'll enjoy many happy memories of Maurice in the years to come.

Rest in paws Mo.

Actually, scratch everything above, this is the only thing that's 100% correct.

Says moi after an hour and 45 in the gym and I've revived myself with a coffee (black no sugar) and err, umm, a croissant! So, I'm probably calorie buoyant as of 09.24.

Exercise is important, but at best, it contributes 10-15% of a healthy weight. The rest is diet.

I'm managing leg problems currently, so my exercise regime is reduced. Currently aim for 8k steps per day, but hiking put on hold for a year; I get to the gym at least twice a week, more if the legs allow, and do weights without trying to look like Arnie and stretching, albeit I've had to stop doing yoga because of a knee.

My weight is pretty much around the weight I'd get to before running a marathon when I was training a lot. My last medical, all the markers were excellent.

Diet is the key. I'm not a vegan, but I'm 95% whole food plant based, and while I think the folks at Zoe are annoying, I easily surpass their advice to consume 30 different plant items a week. In fact, I average around 70 per week. Gut biodiversity is for my money, justifiably hyped. My advice: 'eat the rainbow'.

Ultimately, a lot of good health/weight is linked to how much you cook and eat whole foods at home, as opposed to a diet overly based on: animal products; processed foods; and eating out/relying on delivery apps which are all heavily laden with salt, sugar, saturated fats and frequently offer zero neutritional value.

I also drink a lot of water, take a B12 supplement and booze consumption reduced these days. I never smoked.

Frankly, the medical profession/governments are years behind the curve on advice, preferring to prescribe drugs as opposed to tackling the problem generated by poor lifestyle choices. It's up to people to take control and while it can be confusing, there's still many sources of good advice out there. I follow a chap called Michael Greger (nutritionfacts.org). He's a bit quirky and sciencey, but his videos are never longer than 10 minutes and give it to you straight.

The only thing that we can say at this stage in proceedings: Marti's roses are a shoe-in for first prize at the South Girona Horticultural Society's summer fete.

I won't claim to be ITK, but a contact at the SGHS has informed me that his azaleas are coming up a treat.

Ahh, but while he will undoubtedly be working on injuries sustained in zones 1 and 2, will he be treating those picked up in zone 3?

As impressive as the DS is, Kim Jung does know that when its all said and done, it's the First XI that really counts?

Very unlike us!

I wasn't expecting this to be announced until late-October, after he'd got several games under his belt. At the earliest.

It's still no from me.

The only thing we can all agree on: he's shown nothing to suggest he's any good at being 'up-front'!

It's a no from me.
