I agree broadly with that, though maybe not leaving Varane out, thought he was better Saturday. I've thought Frey has been on the Bench as a more like for like Sub for Kone, but he has been so poor I do think Kolli deserves a place on the Bench in his place. If Kone's poor form continues Kolli may get a start. Vale hasn't contributed much since his goal, I'd prefer Dembele on the Bench to him |

Do you know that was almost exactly what was said to Nardi? Or could it have been more like we are going to give Walsh a go as he's done well when called on. |

Yes agreed. It was only in the last game that he ran well at Swansea"s defence and put a lovely ball through it for Chair whose shot was well saved. |

It didn't help that Vale was very poor again and rightly hooked at HT, should have been earlier. Kone, Frey, and Dembele all had poor games too for me. I did think Varane was better than he has been, improved as the game went on and managed a couple of decent forward passes. Chair looked lively when he came on but faded quickly, but he's probably not 100% fit yet. |

Greater mental (and physical) tiredness after a 2 day break between games, in comparison to Derby who had a 3 day break and no travel. Its a disadvantage, Shirley. [Post edited 25 Oct 20:45]

Looked a very tired performance. Derby had an extra day since their last game and played that and today at home so had no travel either. It showed. Think pretty much the same happened in the previous International break too. Where was Dunne today? There was a 10 minute spell 1st half where Madsen played RB, got some help from Cook but Dunne was off screen at least. When he appeared again he looked well off it. |

Good info, that was unclear to me. |

"frozen out" with his mush barely leaving room for the starting 11 names? |

He's probably not ready as yet, but just from seeing a little of him and reading about him I wonder if Jaylan Pearman maybe one who could cover for Madsen given time? |

I expect a lot of it is growth in his self-confidence, and good training especially in the defensive aspects of his game this season. He and whoever has worked with him on this deserve huge credit. |

After the game when most of the screen was covered by an EFL stats caption I saw in the background an R's player looking like he was limping badly as he walked off the pitch. Anyone see that and know who it was, thought it was Madsen but possibly Field or Dunne? |

I've said it probably way too many times before but I thought Madsen showed his class in his exceptional ball control and passing vision in his first games for us last season, also running capacity when he scored against Luton. Plus his penalty taking and dead balls ability. Even more so in the last few games of last season. This season his defensive game has improved enormously, and as last night he is controlling games from the midfield. Look at his ball-winning tackle and first time pass forward all in one kick to Kone, I think it was, who fed Saito, who picked out Hayden's great run and little pull-back for Burrell to score. Don't know what happened to him in the middle of last season, but it is good he got back on it, because this version of Madsen could be a huge contribution to us having a really good season. |

I think Morrison is often slow to react to situations and Cook for all his experience seems to have brainfarts like trying a Ronaldo style overhead from an angle to goal with about 2 minutes left. I thought Cook was at fault for the 1st goal and him and others for the 2nd which seem to go through 3 or 4 of our defenders. The speed of thought and legs of MBengue Improved us considerably when he came on. |

Predicting when a player is expected to be back from a medium to long term injury is never an exact science. It is ridiculous to be making any fuss about any variation from the forecast. Players thank heavens aren't robots just yet, and until they are as humans their recovery time is going to be dependent on multiple variables. [Post edited 19 Oct 5:46]

Vale was poor yesterday. I couldn't understand why he kept taking corners and free kicks from the right when on the occasions Madsen took them they were so much better. I was surprised Vale and Frey came out for the 2nd half when we had good alternatives on the Bench, we were a lot better when they were subbed. JS didn't get us right until it was too late today, maybe in part because of jetlag. Vale will have better days again I hope. |
