Bringing back Lallana was a great idea wasn't it.
I really don't get paying player wages to people that are here to mentor or coach. God knows what we've paid him over the last 18 months but why bring him back then never pick him. More money wasted.

It's virtually impossible for a striker to look good inn a team that refuses to get the ball up the pitch quickly.
You soon tire of making runs and the ball never arrives, or you hold it up but there's no one around you. I was no fan of Che Adams but he made plenty of runs and no one ever gave him the ball.
Stewart could be great but are we going to gamble on his fitness again? ?
Archer is a mystery. Maybe the Championship will be his level.
Armstrong does at least have a good record, but he didn't do well at West Brom. I'd suggest Still is going to have to do some serious thinking here.

Don't stress. They dig it up every year anyway.

Knighthood For David Beckham
at 14:12 6 Jun 2025

I don't care for these things at all but why not. He's a global icon and as usual probably valued more highly around the world than us cynical Brits do. But Andy Murray got one and I'd say he's probably more high profile than him.
Good point made on the radio today that Tony Adams should have one too for all his work with Sporting Chance. He's saved a lot of people.

Transfer window open - set-piece specialist player and also coach required
at 12:37 4 Jun 2025

I personally don't believe set piece coach is a real job.
Can you imagine having a job where you just work on set pieces for 40 hours per week?
I'd say set plays are less creative now than they were 30 years ago.

Decent set pieces are all about the quality of the delivery, it's not complicated.
Players who are going to shoot (like a JWP, Bale and Beckham) practice their technique for hours.
Most other kicks are all about a flat-ish delivery with pace so someone might get a header on it. No one has ever scored from a ballooned floater to the back post !
I'm really not sure why they need a full time coach to train this.

Malta in a few weeks time. Thought it would be interesting as it has great history and a little different than going to Spain or Greece.

If it's him so so be it. Give him a chance.

If we were in the PL I'd worry about attracting players but we are still a draw at champo level. Players know we are one of the clubs capable of getting promoted.

It's such a massive job.
It would be tough for an older manager experienced in managing in England, and in the Championship, and for a club that has just been relegated and needs an overhaul. But apart from that it should be easy !

But in all seriousness, managers usually sink or swim. Pochettino had been relegated in Spain and was out of a job. Who thought he'd do as well as he did.

I think they key element is that the board give him the tools he needs. If they just insist he sells everyone and uses youth team players then he has no chance.
But good luck to him. He deserves our support from the off.

We'll set another record.
at 10:24 13 May 2025

I'm genuinely amazed us fans have been so passive this season.
We got promoted and let's be frank, we have been absolutely embarrassing.
We have been the laughing stock of the Premier league. Even Leicester and Ipswich are a long way in front.
I know we probably don't care now it's all over and we are looking forward to the championship and perhaps winning games again.
And I know we all like to trash the Premier league for it's corporate fans, diving, var, and overhyped players.

But dear god, we have been pathetic. Stale, toothless football under Martin who refused to budge an inch as the ship sank.
Then Juric the world's least charismatic manager (ok, maybe second behind Puel) who seemed to have no clue from his first day onwards.
We've been 'struggling Southampton' many times before in my life, but at least we've had fight.
The owners are extremely lucky our fan base are so accepting and supportive because this is the most pathetic season I can ever remember and I include the days we sank to League 1.

Danny Rohl quits Wednesday
at 12:53 9 May 2025

He seemed to have a good reputation. Did well at Bournemouth, and played decent football at Wolves until they sold a lot of their best players.
I think he'd be a reasonable option but he doesn't seem to be considered.

Totally agree. What has Rohl done?
Saints fans seem to be dazzled by the fact he has been here before with Ralph.
He might be a solid candidate for all I know, but not to the point where he's a clear favourite.

Wouldn't be surprised.
What does surprise me is how little he has played because when he is on the pitch he's one of our better players. Baffling.

What have I missed? Is he still a player?
We bought him back and he never plays.
Martin rarely picked him despite some decent cameos.
Juric picked him even less and now...
Well now he doesn't even pick himself!
Has he actually retired??

Well Leicester just got the record for losing the most consecutive games at home without scoring.
But that gives us something to aim for next year...
