True but it currently seems to be overwhelmed by divisive content.

Social media has magnified it so much. It used to be confined to newspapers, so if you didn't read them you didn't have to put up with it. Or that annoying bloke in the pub that was easy enough to avoid.

Now we are absolutely bombarded via social media. You can barely look at the usual social media sites and apps without being bombarded with this stuff. Phone snatching, pickpockets, shoplifting, flag waving marches etc, etc, etc. Everyone be afraid, and blame each other. And everyone has a phone so its very far reaching.

There's a guy on tiktok etc that used to do loads of interesting travel stuff visiting different parts of the world and showing you what these places are like. I used to watch him because the content was genuinely good. All of a sudden in the last few weeks his stuff has turned far right and its all about the immigrants and countries being swarmed with them. He's clearly recently decided this is where the money is and there wasn't even a hint of this in his previous stuff.

There's a reason why billionaires want control of the popular social media outlets, and it certainly isn't to help improve the lives of ordinary people, whatever ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation or anything else they are.

This is spot on. I just wish more people would see it for what it is.

Worth noting we've beaten 3 of the current top 6.

On the one hand you have people constantly raging about grooming gangs and wanting to bring the subject up at every opportunity while on the other they're happy to studiously ignore this or make excuses for it.

Yes, as a Celtic fan this is quite annoying. They've almost appointed the best option by mistake. Was hoping Gerrard would return as they have him on a completely undeserved pedestal up there.

Bloody fireworks...
at 23:59 21 Oct 2025

Agree. I'm all for diversity and celebrating whathever national or religious festivals you want to, but letting fireworks off beyond midnight is just antisocial and selfish. People have kids, pets etc and many struggle to sleep even on quiet nights.

Same goes for guy fawkes and all that nonsense. At least on NYE most people have the next day off work.

True. Racism was very big in that part of London long before it became more broadly trendy.

I have a good mate who's a Charlton fan. He's mellowed now but when I first worked with him when we were not long out of school I was shocked at the very strong racist views he held. Growing up in Harlesden as I did, we just took everyone as they were as all colours and creeds lived there.

Agreed, the pathetic addition of "no surrender" in the middle of the national anthem pretty much sums that element up.

Indeed. I seem to recall they used to chant "Everton are white".

Celtic are quite lefty and of course Rangers the total opposite.

Not English I know. Well, Rangers like to think they are.

First 10 days or so of a world cup are brilliant. 3 games a day, all-sorts of teams some of whom just go for it leading to open and entertaining matches.

For me its almost a comedown once the number of games reduces and the chess matches/penalty shootouts start to take over.

You'd expect someone like Terry to go well under two hours.

I beat Australian boxer Harry Garside in a 10km a couple of months ago. Can only assume he was taking it very easy!

Wilson settles Millwall cup cliff hanger - History
at 11:13 15 Oct 2025

Was in the loft with my brother. Crackling and very tense atmosphere as Wall had a big tear up with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the previous round.

We were just starting to talk about trying to get tickets for the replay when their defender did probably the most stupid and unnecessary handball I've ever seen. We weren't going to score any other way and even when we did threaten Keller in goal for them was having a great old time saving everything. The entire home end saw it, appealed as one and I can still vividly see the ref pointing to the spot. Wilson tucked it away to huge celebrations and thoughts turned to getting away safely. We hadn't worn colours which helped!
