Long Throws
at 21:43 17 Sep 2025

We seemed to have some success with the Smyth medium throw for a while last season until teams cottoned on to Dunne winning the first header every time.

But it’s true the time taken is often ludicrous. A team holding onto a lead taking a throw in their own half would often get a booking for taking as long but referees continue to refuse to clamp down on time-wasting in general, most notably with dead ball goal kicks.

They’re fun and more likely to end up with us having possession in the box or near it than a short throw. Get it launched.

This prompted me to look up Ledesma’s career. Finished two years ago at Las Vegas Lights (?) after a quite bizarre but forgettable career. Shame. Played in America, Greece, Finland, Chile, Argentina and Italy. We’ll always have Carlisle at home in the League Cup.

While Parejo got a few Spain caps and is a legend at one of Spain’s biggest clubs and in the mostly not Champions League aged 36.

I doubt Conor Coady would agree with that assessment.

International breaks
at 14:51 15 Sep 2025

I don’t disagree, but it wouldn’t cut down the number of breaks much even if it meant fewer international matches overall.

I don’t think this is the worst idea if it’s instead of 2x two week breaks early on in the European season. I’d rather they did it later.

Norwich away…train?
at 11:27 15 Sep 2025

4.5 hours each way from Sussex but cheap-ish at £47 (with a Network railcard). Just under 3 hours from Liverpool St via a stop in Cambridge. Fun.

I’ve lost track- is this confirmed as a 3pm?

Dozzell smashes the bar with a great effort on his weaker foot from 25 yards

Think that’s harsh and I’m not a fan of his. Was worried with the way we set up and we definitely should have clogged up the midfield earlier but he is starting to put himself about a bit more- it’s never going to be a great part of his game- and the pass to Kone while not a hugely difficult one is one many players don’t attempt quickly enough.

Did bottle a challenge out wide in the first half quite spectacularly. I fear better teams than Wrexham will expose him but if it were Field/Hayden in a two that will happen to some extent. Sheaf for his brief time on the pitch showed that. But overall not bad and not great.

Hopefully a bit tasty and on ITV which is a nice novelty. Dozzell starting (and Manning, meh). Should really be a comfortable home win but hopefully Pompey rough them up a bit and have a go.

Question for goalkeepers
at 10:35 14 Sep 2025

I was very similar. Pretty good at all other aspects but it was a hard thing to judge. I would mostly punch them but I did come out for them. I’m not sure after 20+ years of being a goalkeeper it’s something he can be taught and the worst thing would be to try and force it and have that split second where he has to think about it.

Played a lot of futsal when I lived abroad and that’s ideal. No crosses and just loads of shots from close range.

Eliminator Playoffs
at 08:04 13 Sep 2025

The best thing about it IMO as a part-time supporter of the not so mighty Borehamwood is they’re one-legged ties at the home ground of the team finishing higher including the final at that level which is a real advantage / ‘reward’ for finishing higher so the teams that do scrap in have to win away three times, as Maidstone very nearly did with the quarters and semis a few days apart so a further advantage for the team not having to contest the quarter-final.

I do like the format but at our level the final would be at Wembley (as with the National Leafue) which negates some of that ‘reward’ and I doubt they’d have such a short turnaround between games.

For all the unnecessary knowledge I have of QPR I know little to nothing about the managers of the distant past.

11 managers from 1906 until Alec Stock leaving in 1968.

11 managers (plus caretakers) from Gary Waddock in 2006 to Ramsey leaving in 2015.

Imagine how dull this league would be if the one slightly realistic chance of promotion was taken away for the majority of the division. Pretty much any team can have a great season and scrape sixth. To finish third is beyond probably 15 teams’ wildest dreams at least and risks making the Prem even more of a closed shop than it already is.

I like the system they have in non-league. In theory it should give a big advantage to the teams finishing higher in the league though it doesn’t always work out that way.

Never had a problem buying nor selling on here. Would’ve been a bit nervy schlepping to Wrexham for a paper ticket but got my e-ticket courtesy of KE. Can always trust Rangers fans if not Rangers players.

I’d have thought Madueke is an alternative to Saka on the right while the left wing doesn’t have a such a clear first choice and is where Grealish has started well for Everton. I’m not a huge Bellingham fan but assuming he’s the most attacking central midfielder there’s then various options including Eze, Palmer, Gordon, Rashford, Foden, Bowen. You know he’ll take Rashford as there’s not much up front beyond Kane and Watkins so it’s a hell of a choice if they all have reasonable seasons.

Unbelievably negative from Serbia and have got what they’ve deserved. This is hardly an England defence and goalkeeper they should be afraid of having a bit of a go at at home and they play 5-4-1 and sit on the edge of their own box from the first minute. Odd.

Thought for 40 minutes you were doing ok. Not brilliantly but in control. Second half has been appalling.

3-1 as I type. Game over. They’ve had plenty of chances second half. The manager really ought to walk.

Ireland game has been quite entertaining albeit dreadfully poor from Ireland who will do well to get a draw as it stands. Armenia looked like a pub team until the penalty.
