Good lad. Excellent watch. Love that he doesn't have a clue who Ryan Reynolds is (Who Rrrrr ya?). Love his shut eye groan when they pull one back and his amazement as Burrell breaks the sound barrier to score the third. And Mbengue leading the celebrations afterwards with Tyler's camera. Days like this it is great to support this club!
No team news which is a shame but it isn't Stephan's fault. He seems energised. I like that he is starting to get the fans here and the atmosphere. That will make a whole lot easier for him. Very tough game but they have to come out on the front foot. I watched England the other night and thought, we have the wide players to do some damage against a back 3 at Wrexham.
Such a good goal this from winning the ball back to Saito's glorious run and finish. This is why we got him back, to run through the middle like this with pace.
Honestly if you have two players that can finish in training like Burrell and Kone play them as a duo up front. Get them to load the box and have wingers feeding them and a midfielder behind who can put them through.
Play 4-4-2 or 3-5-2 but just get your two strikers to reap havoc.... or... don't.
It does feel like every manager/coach coming through the door struggles more than 45 minutes of what they want the players to do. Stephan is no different to the previous 3,4,5 coaches through the door here. It feels like a combination of historical mentality and fitness issues.
Stephan speaks briefly about it here and I must say I have a great deal more respect for him after this interview. He's f*cking angry and it's good to see because it appears that he's identified this historical issue. God knows how he sorts it out but I think given a squad not fully hit by injuries he may find a solution.
One is that he now has a number of attacking options. I think he really needs to play two up top, especially at Loftus Road because we now have players with power and pace to play a high press against anyone. The other thing is perhaps we do have to look at a strategy that plays with 100% intensity by asking the 10 outfield that start to put absolutely everything into 65-70 minutes with the idea that they are then replaced with players who commit the same intensity to the last 30-35 minutes. Especially if some of these players have a tendency to cramp up.
I do feel like I have been watching a team for seasons now that can't string two halves together and it is a really evident issue that lies deeper than the coaches coming in and out of the door.
On the plus side, Kieran Morgan is the latest in post match interviews to say that they really want to get what the gaffer is asking them to do right for more than a half! So the players obviously have a lot of time for this guy.
