Honestly if you have two players that can finish in training like Burrell and Kone play them as a duo up front. Get them to load the box and have wingers feeding them and a midfielder behind who can put them through.
Play 4-4-2 or 3-5-2 but just get your two strikers to reap havoc.... or... don't.
I used to think we did too much running and not enough with the ball. Now training is all with the ball and rarely about running any distance in sessions at all. Perhaps that is why there are so many injuries because we don't send players out on 5 mile runs anymore?
I have a feeling he may well end up staying and we'll end up having to raise more money by selling the naming rights to the individual urinals and toilet stalls around the stadium.
I see Bristol City are already trying to offload Sinclair Armstrong before the end of the window, so unless they get very lucky I don't think we'll be seeing much of our 20% (or whatever it was) sell on fee!
It does feel like every manager/coach coming through the door struggles more than 45 minutes of what they want the players to do. Stephan is no different to the previous 3,4,5 coaches through the door here. It feels like a combination of historical mentality and fitness issues.
Stephan speaks briefly about it here and I must say I have a great deal more respect for him after this interview. He's f*cking angry and it's good to see because it appears that he's identified this historical issue. God knows how he sorts it out but I think given a squad not fully hit by injuries he may find a solution.
One is that he now has a number of attacking options. I think he really needs to play two up top, especially at Loftus Road because we now have players with power and pace to play a high press against anyone. The other thing is perhaps we do have to look at a strategy that plays with 100% intensity by asking the 10 outfield that start to put absolutely everything into 65-70 minutes with the idea that they are then replaced with players who commit the same intensity to the last 30-35 minutes. Especially if some of these players have a tendency to cramp up.
I do feel like I have been watching a team for seasons now that can't string two halves together and it is a really evident issue that lies deeper than the coaches coming in and out of the door.
On the plus side, Kieran Morgan is the latest in post match interviews to say that they really want to get what the gaffer is asking them to do right for more than a half! So the players obviously have a lot of time for this guy.
Meanwhile the women won 7-0 at MK Dons so they know how to put the ball in the back of the net.
I feel a bit for Madsen. I thunk he really wants to succeed but somehow when he gets on the pitch he seems to partially freeze. No real idea why but I also think the pace of the Championship is too much for him. It's actually quite painful to watch because you have a player who for some reason, just can't do it. Unfortunately we paid £2m for him so I fear the club is almost bound to try and try again to get it to work for him, because the only way we'll make anything like £2m for a sale for him is as parts on eBay. Then again, we bought Dykes for £2m and sold him for £1m so it would be in keeping with the general clusterf*ck that is our ability to sell certain players on at a heavy loss. It could be cheaper just to keep him and really hope for the best.
Agreed Clive. I think he is still in the phase of working out what this team really can do and is hampered by yet another crippling injury list. There were passages in the first half against Preston and the second half at Watford where you can see what this team may become. Early days but while he's trying to do this him and Steve Bould have also got to make us hard to beat at the back and yesterday's starting line up was immediately lopsided. Mbengue doesn't get confidence being played like that and that didn't need to happen with two left footed players that can play left back on the bench.
Agree here. I think Steve needs to really get into this defence and shore it up quickly. Slightly surprised by the slackness we are seeing given Steve's track record. I am sure he is pulling his hair out. Or not, as the case is.
As for Stephan, almost impossible to step into the Marti love shoes but I'd like to see him a bit more angry at the bad things. He has a decent squad I feel if it is ever fit?
Hopefully a few wins changes some people's minds. My biggest worry is that QPR have been a one half / 45 minute team for seasons. This is nothing new now whatever manager/coach is in control.
It does seem pretty odd not having an actual left footed LB when you potentially have 2 that can play there? We shall see. They have very good wingers.
