My team was playing in an east coast regional championship the weekend in NJ. The venue was a place called Tuckenhoe turf farms. They grow grass for major sports teams.
Got chatting and discovered they were growing the fields for the World Cup east coast venues. The story was that every team playing at their allotted stadiums had to have the exact playing surface as each other. Also the designated training fields for the same teams had to be the same as the venues pitch.
Apparently some controversies of late with teams subject to different playing surfaces. Poor loves.
On inspection the Bermuda grass field in front of me defined the word lush. It was beautiful and going to be used in Philadelphia.
Bloke in a truck looking at me weird. Got chatting and me lamenting how brilliant I thought it was to see this etc. It’s just grass was his reply.
Lost 8-0 in the final if anyone cares. They shouldn’t have been there but teams love to enter things and look good. 35 teams involved. |

Saw a message from an Oxford fan not about the day that time forgot but highlighted that we were the worst team in West London.

Few videos going around of the stadium at a soft opening for an U18 game. Looks very impressive and with the surrounding areas identity kept and restored adding a lot of charm and character.
Champion league finals level of security and hold up places that may test the faithfuls patience.
Also nice to see hordes of blue seats not red ones for a change in a decent stadium.
No family now in the UK so visits fewer but if and when would try and go to a game. [Post edited 18 Feb 14:38]

Not the biggest rock fan/gibsons/Marshalls etc however this lot are playing locally and I do like what they do. Have also seen the footage in Brazil and Spain and think to myself let’s experience this for myself.
I thought they had retired. Anyone seen them recently and they are still knocking it out.

My Norwich supporting mate, he was at the 3-2 game in 1976, went to the football factory in NYC to watch his team this Saturday.
Lo and behold he found 10 Rangers fans with a giant flag watching our game. Only 2 Norwich fans watching their game. Sent me some nice photos that they posed for him. Cheers lads, just confirms we are a massive club.

Seeing copious amounts of holding, pulling and general man handling going on at this tournament. Some of the high profile players taking a real hammering at times. Yellow cards seem to come out late though I’m sure FIFA have told them to keep them tucked away sometimes. Funny as well that when players who do get booked act so indignant. You did it and the world saw you do it, Bizarre.
Goalkeepers not catching the ball. I remember seeing Clemence and Nev making diving catching saves all the time. This parrying malarkey is Costing goals.
Some mad shot blocking, single players and half the defense accompanied by goals being scored going through players legs. |
