Transfers concluded
at 08:15 4 Feb 2025

So in summary:

In:
Edwards - really needed at the time and will probably feature a lot more
Min-Hyeok - important cover for Smyth and maybe even more
Vale, Esquerdinha, O'Brien - not expected to feature for 1st team (yet)

Out:
Santos - if all buy-option rumours are true, excellent business.

Contracts extended:
Chair
Kolli
Morgan
Lloyd

A fairly conservative, but probably sensible, window of activity. Which I guess means we're happy to see out the season with whom we have and expect enough bodies to return to fitness to see us through.

Only one I am disappointed about, is EDB. Would have loved to see him go out on loan. So either we think we need him, or other clubs perhaps don't rate him. Hard one for me to judge.

Summer outs
at 10:10 20 Jan 2025

In hindsight, the players that left us in the summer were all "good business". Not least because we got money for them. And I really like the attitude (confirmed by CN recently) that if you're into you're 20's and still in the dev squad, you're not going to make it with us.

Willock on a good day could perhaps still have played a part, but all the others have been replaced by better options.

Kakay arguebly better than Santos, but neither would get a look into the squad as it is now.

Also interesting (a relief) to see that no-one that has left and made an impact or progress elsewhere. The opposite in some cases.

home game vs Derby County
at 10:58 25 Dec 2024

Christmas present for the kids, we're taking them to London for a few days during their Feb school holidays (15-23 Feb). Only QPR home game in that period is Friday the 14th. No ticket information yet, but should we be able to get tickets for a family of 4? For that day we need to take the kids a day out of school also, so if you guys think tickets will be a problem, we might as well pick dates later in the window. Have to book flights and hotel soonish.

Expiring contracts
at 07:33 1 Sep 2024

For as much as we (are allowed to) know, who are in the last year of their contracts?

Cook, Colback, Frey, Anderson in the 30+ bracket. They all seem to enjoy what they are doing now and for lack of offers from elsewhere considering their age, might stay on. If featured in our plans of course.

Paal, Chair, Dunne. Who else? The younger lads are a tougher sell to keep hold of, I think.

At this stage I would like to see the bulk of them, if not all, stay on. All depends on how the new lads settle in and Lloyd, Kolli, EDB, etc progress enough to become regulars.

Players leaving

No surprise there.

(looked easier to just start a generic thread for the leavers instead of a thread per player or worst, appending the news on an unrelated thread)

New SKY deal
at 05:17 10 May 2024

“That means each Championship club will receive around £5.7m per year under the new domestic deal.

Meanwhile, the EFL announced this year Pitch International and Relevant Sports will distribute internationally, in a deal worth £147.7m over four years.”

How much did we get before? 5.7m seems a tidy figure we can use to plug a few gaps.

I’m not sure how much of the international part we will see, the distribution between the EFL leagues is not specified. But every bit helps.

What are the players doing now?
at 04:38 9 May 2024

Are the players off already, or still reporting every day and perhaps doing some light training and post season analyses? I would imagine they have to wind down the training and not just stop and go sit on the beach for a few weeks?

I would also imagine a really busy time for the backroom staff now, planning for next season, searching transfer targets, contract talks, etc? Phones must be buzzing.

Sincs vs Brobbey
at 05:38 16 Apr 2024

I was watching Ajax this weekend and it struck me how much Sincs reminds me of Brian Brobbey. Both young "raw talents" that are extremely strong and fast, physical, often fouled and gets nothing from the referees and then both go into "the world is against me" mode. Similar style of play. Both playing for clubs in crisis, although QPR always in some sort of crisis while Ajax, by their standards, probably going through the biggest crisis in their history. Topped off with a record 6-0 loss last weekend against big rivals Feyenoord.

Except. Brobbey has scored 19 so far this season.

(Ajax got kicked out of the cup by an amateur team earlier this season, first time in their history. A very QPR thing to do)

Hmmm. Watching this, actually, I realise Sincs is nothing like Brobbey.

QPR @ KNVB

I was at the KNVB campus today, work thing. Where the Dutch FA have their offices and the training complex of the national team is. Impressive facilities.

But look what was hanging on the wall right next to the coffee machine.

South Africa keeper saves 4 in the shootout. Actual saves, not missed shots. That was pretty special.

Prediction league issue?
at 21:38 26 Oct 2023

I finally broke my duck and correctly predicted our 2-0 loss against WBA only to find my "result" and "bonus" totals still on 0. Anyone else noticed an issue with the prediction league scores?

The score is processed as it says "actual: 2-0"

Ajax
at 07:49 25 Sep 2023

I was at the Ajax-Feyenoord game yesterday with my daughter. Assume most of you have read and/or seen what happened.

Absolutely mental what the club has done. Appointed a new foreign director who totally ignored all input from the coach and spent 110m on players no-one has heard of before. Top of the list of crazy things is the 12m he spent on Akpom, who has (from the few minutes I have seen him play here) been totally useless and clearly out of his depth. Middlesborough must be having a very good chuckle about that one.

The director is now under investigation also, seems like one of his own companies benefited from these transfers, which would explain a lot of this madness.

We are always complaining about manager gets what manager wants, but this is a rare case of the exact opposite. This is going to take some time to put right. Club has lost its identity with all these no-name foreign mercenaries.

(Coach and director not on speaking terms now. Someone going to get axed soon)

"The model"
at 08:53 3 Sep 2023

Suppose things keep going in the right direction and the likes of Armstrong and Smyth continue to blossom. Aren't we supposed to sell them for big money in January, at he latest next summer? What we failed to do with the likes of Willock when they peaked.

I'm over the moon with the signings that have been criticised for not fitting the model. We'll get a good year, maybe two out of most of those while they play an important role in helping the youngsters come through. Not to mention the role they are playing in helping us win games at the moment, which has a positive effect all round.

While I understand the need to get youngsters in, develop and sell with profit, you can't build a team to compete in this competition with playstation kids. You need a few old heads in there as well.

Like all things in life, I suppose its getting the balance right.

Managerial transfer window
at 06:44 9 Feb 2022

Has changing a manager ever been aligned with changing playing staff, i.e. only allowed in a transfer window? Would make for an interesting debate ...

Personally think the transfer window thing is strange in the light of labour laws. "We desperately need a new accountant to handle the new workload". Sorry lads, hiring only allowed again in January, we just have to lose out to the competitors until then.

Brings back memories of the Bosman ruling. I bet if someone goes to court with the transfer window thing, he makes a decent chance of winning. Why would you not be allowed to move to a new job if the opportunity arises and you are desperately unhappy at your current one?

First time home game
at 08:19 7 Nov 2021

Planning a family trip to London in the Christmas break. We play Bournemouth at home on the 27th of December. My gut feel says that will be a tough fixture to get tickets to as a (first time) visitor. Need at least 2, perhaps up to 4 tickets.

Should I be able to get tickets? Otherwise I'm looking at alternative dates, don't want to visit London again and not be at a QPR home game. I guess no point in contacting the club now already, tickets will probably go on sale closer to the game?

Last time I was in London, QPR played away and it was impossible to get tickets to PL games, with the loyalty systems etc. We ended up going to Fulham-Newcastle, which was a pretty good experience though. But watching an already relegated team on last day of the season as a neutral was not first choice.

"Goal scorers" that have left us
at 06:43 25 Nov 2020

We were worried about the 40 odd goal strike force that left, but looking at where we are now and the stats below, I am not too worried. For now.

Jordan Hugill: 1 goal, 11 apps
Eberechi Eze: 1 goal, 9 apps (big step up, we'll cut him some slack)
Nahki Wells: 3 goals, 13 apps

You could add Luke Freeman's 1 from 10.

Conor Washington with 5 from 14 is actually the most prolific recent ex-R around at the moment, I think. Followed by Matt Smith with 3 from 12.

Looks like we are a club suited for attacking players. Charlie Austin never quite the same after he left too. Makes me grateful for what we are doing at the club at the moment.

Has Manning even played a game at Swansea yet? From being a regular chipping in with a few goals and assists to forgotten. Understand the lure of more money, but that was a pretty poor career move.

Stadium guide
at 07:59 24 Sep 2020

Not living in the UK, I have not been to many games there and would love to see a feature on stadiums, probably starting with the places we play at. And ideally by Clice. *wink*. A suggestion is to start small: a paragraph maybe in the match preview, but could be a nice full-blown stadium guide later on.

Would be very interesting for me to hear what a typical away day is like for QPR fans. The travel, pubs, game experience, etc.

My only live QPR game was at Newcastle, the day Mark Hughes made his debut. I have been at Loftus Road, but that was for a Fulham game, I think 2003, vs Southampton. Last year I was at Craven Cottage itself with my kid, great day out. Ironically, against Newcastle.

Championship salary cap
at 07:25 17 Sep 2020

I see an 18m salary cap on the table for championship clubs. Good news for us, I think we are in that region as it stands, perhaps? Major problems for others. Probably a long way off before they can realistically implement it and settle on an amount that is agreed by all (or majority).

That's a squad of 30 players on average 12K per week. Sensible numbers in my opinion. You'll have a few 20-25K guys. And if your squad is smaller (say around 24-26), gives you a little bit more room.

Wonder how parachute payments figure in that equation. Would that make them redundant, seeing relegated clubs would have to shed their high earners?

Where does the youth player's salaries come into that?
