So another game with no striker…
at 18:58 5 Apr 2025

Got to be Jimmy Dunne for me.

And if neither Varane nor Field can do 90 I'd also suggest Edwards in midfield.

Desperate times.

Two poor sides like the OP says, and yet Paal and Colback actually had one (two?) of their better games today, Smyth did some bright bits, and Morrison and Edwards were decent. Low expectations.

Most unpleasant book you’ve ever read?
at 12:28 2 Apr 2025

A third for American Psycho. I read it on long coach journeys. I remember being so tense and uptight, like it put me physically into a vice, that it would take some time to recover from when I stopped reading. Or maybe it was just the coach.

I also disliked but still finished both The Road and the Wasp Factory. All well written, perhaps culturally important social commentary, but nasty.

It’s dreadful.

45mins of Dunne as centre forward please.

This season......your thoughts.
at 23:03 25 Mar 2025

I disagree it's a small squad. It's a big squad*. It's just not a very good one.

Season has been disappointing, but there's always the next one. Nobody felt optimistic when Warnock joined in March 2010...

*Of those who've played games, we have 8 defenders, 6 central midfielders, 5 attacking midfielders, 4 strikers. At times Madsen couldn't make the bench.

I took my daughters today. Thanks for posting it.

Lovely little exhibition and full respect that it’s free. That’s the most punk thing about it in these money grabbing times.

And Ray had A LOT more quality. Colback's never been a maestro even at his peak.

I'd love to see Jimmy Dunne play up front. If nothing else it would be fun.

Steve Cook...

Problem is we don't have any budget to manouevre in the front four (as Marti tends to play). I believe all of Frey Celar Kolli Smyth Madsen Morgan Vale Chair Dembele Bennie Lloyd (and I wouldn't be surprised Saito) will be under contract. And you wouldn't be expecting anyone to throw money at us for any of them.

Defence is where we have room to make signings. We need a starting right back (even if, as I fear, Ashby turns out to be perm), at least two centrebacks (which could include Cook), and I suspect they won't want to go into the season with Larkeche and Esquerdinha as our only left back options (they describe Vale on the offish as attack-minded midfielder).

Places for a new ground

You might not find it interesting. But I do. There are pockets of space all over west London. This one hadn’t been mentioned before as far as I recall. On reflection there’s not quite enough space. Ok. Move on. But I’d still be interested to read about other ideas for development opportunities if they come up.

Just measured it out. You're right. Not any bigger than Loftus Road.

Beating a hasty retreat. My eyeball assessment is evidently rubbish.

Places for a new ground

I was just musing that there would be sufficient space for a new ground at the Willesden Sports Centre.

In the middle of Willesden Green, Willesden Junction, Kensal Rise, and Kensal Green for dissipating crowds and transport links.

Close to our origin story.

I haven't heard this mentioned before so thought I'd add it here.

QPR finances released

I haven’t looked but wouldn’t this be reporting on summer 2023 if it’s a report to May 2024?

So with dieng and dickie being the sales…the rest being colback, cook, Smyth, cannon etc….what this really means…hide now…is Taylor Richards is much more of a disaster than we even realised?

Update: I’ve skimmed it now and don’t see that £6m figure. I’m less concerned about what we might have paid for Richards. The bit on impairment looks very relevant to him.

He's got aggression, anticipation, heading, and the big switch. Needs to add one-two touch triangles, finding and wanting space to receive the ball, driving forward with the ball, long shooting (the one he got was phenomenal), and slide-rule through balls. I think he can do it.

Colback will be 36 for most of next season and struggles to be available to play now. Can’t renew that. It’s not like he’s super Ray.

Another vote for Anora. I knew nothing about it beforehand but really enjoyed it. I reckon if you like Uncut Gems you'd like this too.

I liked Conclave. Good. Not outstanding.

Zone of Interest was very good. Sound design especially. And I loved a close up in the garden that then turned to red. But it doesn't say anything that can't be summed up by Hannah Arendt's phrase 'the Banality of Evil' really...I thought it could be a lot more interesting if, for example, the main characters had been more human and likeable.

I saw the Brutalist on Sunday. Very very good in parts - especially without dialogue in the beginning, and jazz, and the marble quarry - but it's a big time commitment! Very good score.
