Such a great take. Now this IS something that could give our oppos a competitive advantage rather than injury status or contract lengths!

Great piece by the club though...

Do you reckon they'll follow that one with a chat with Taylor?

They're only human and any self doubt has to be a real vulnerability to professional athletes. If he puts himself about a bit more, he'll be a good asset. We want him to succeed and yes settling in somewhere is harder than perhaps I'll ever understand, but now's the time to kick on...

Marti to Leicester…maybe
at 10:52 15 Jul 2025

Nah.

Despite what an "utter mess" Leicester are in they will have to go a long way to avoid getting promoted even accidentally with the advantage parachute payments will bring.

They and Marti will dover well this season.

It's all about the cash these days...

His distribution has been ropey at best over the two Champ games he had and the game against Cambridge. Why Cooper was loaned out if the choice is between Dracula and can't pass...

Also not convinced that Walsh is particularly commanding of his ares...

Oh well, from thinking we're OK in the GK department to yet another position we need to strengthen.

Damn.

Looking at both half teams, it is not a stretch to say that 4 of the first half team should be considered "good" Championship players and 4 from the second half team. Just 8 fckn players up to scratch and 14-15 "hangers on" or kids.

At least 5 new players needed, but seeing as Nourry has already said outs before ins, we are unlikely to get anymore than 3.

Really could do with a good start for a change, but we always seem undercooked when each season starts. This one likely tobe no different...

It's acceptable low risk if Adamson is back up to Dunne.

Pearman looked well out of his depth today; needs to settle through the Dev Squad. Bennie has something about him if only we can work out what his position is. Needs a season long loan somewhere. Adamson looks energetic and athletic, but then so does Larkeche.

As with everything Nourry is trying, the only way we will know if he is the devil or the messiah will be through time. We have to wait and see...

Fairs.

Until we have a regular conveyor belt into the first team, why though? Surely it only serves one purpose, which it has not done historically.

Maybe this batch is the answer and maybe it does matter, but only if we start getting regular starters out of ot. Hope so.

Thanks for the reply!

I know I am a miserable old so and so, but I hope you were being ironic. Who actually gives a shite about the performance of the development squad, the women's team or any of the age groups?

There is only one thing that matters - first team results. Yes, it's a nice distraction to beat Brentford in a cup final, but unless three or four of that lot are first team ready NOW or at least by next year, it is of limited true value. I see a number of promising kids coming in to the club, but none of them look capable of pushing out 30 good games in the first team.

That, and the fact that our senior first teamers also can't put out more than 30 games, is a cause for worry.

Yes it's all a month away, but optimism already waning.

...and btw Winchester City is my local club these days, so I'll be there for the Dev Squad game next week...

...or those strikers
...or those central midfielders
...or those goalkeepers

How comes it is the "first choice" players (Frey, Madsen, Kolli, Kelman, Varane, Cook, JCS) that are unfit and none of the fringe players?

Gonna be a long. long season if this is what we are going to have to choose from...

Shambolic.

Only a PSF, only a PSF...

Add Field to the shite performers in this half. Looks like he has forgotten how to control a ball. And if Walsh is the answer...

Strewth, it remains a tough job to support this lot...

Shouldn't be surprised after last season. Two good halves of football in 18 performances and two good goals. He played last season like he is playing this friendly and may be the only striker we have for next season...

Terrifying.

Can't handle any sort of press, can we?
Celar weak as pss, can't control a ball.
Walsh's distribution continues to frighten me...

It's only a pre season friendly and we have half a development squad out there. Keep telling yourselves that...

Madness if we think we can rely on the Dev Squad to make up our first xi next season. A couple of them may have a Kieran Morgan type breakthrough, but they will do a max of 20 effective games next season.

All for them giving us some depth, but if we're throwing Sutton, Esquidinha, Dilton, Timmy Pearson, etc. in for a run of games, we're in trouble. The fitness of those strikers weakens us massively.

Kolli, Frey, Lloyd, Kelman all missing and people think we do not need strikers. They were collectively crap and / or unavailable last season (with the exception of Kelman, who does not seem to want to be here) so does anyone think it'll change this season?

Given up on seeing JCS this year.

That squad is still 4-5 short and two of them are strikers!

More to the point, if they are transgressing UEFA rules, how tf have they not transgressed the Premier League's rules?

(Answer appears to be the Prem allows the big clubs to claim Hotels and the Women's team that you sell to yourself are allowable football costs, whereas UEFA thinks "don't be so f-in stupid, of course they aren't".

Unfit for purpose...

Interesting take that, connell. Richards did OK, but nothing really special, certainly not a stand out as I think everyone did well. Your opinion though, so fairs...

The first half was great because of the additional effort the team was putting in. Was it to impress the new manager or is it because they are energised? Who knows, who cares, but the effort for a first friendly was much improved from what I saw last season. That is good as effort will, once again, be the bare minimum for this lot.

The negatives were the injuries - OK, so maybe they are all "minor" (but then we know how minor injuries with this lot lead to months out), but it is the same old suspects - JCS, Kolli, Frey, Lloyd. That strikeforce is looking a worry especially if Kelman goes as Celar hardly set the world on fire out there today; he certainly doesn't like any kind of physical pressure on him from defenders which is what EVERY Champ team will put on him.

The thing with Frey is availability.

A good poll would be who starts ore games next season - JCS or Frey and who completes most 90 minutes.

It is another reason I think that we need another striker - we have no-one else like Michi and we could become dependent on him to stay fit, which is unlikely...

Got to agree with Esox on this one; Celar really was either dog awful or could not be arsed last season. A forty minute spell over two games aside he was utterly abject over 18 games. Now that could be because he was a Nourry signing that Marti didn't rate, which might make some difference, but on the evidence of last season Kelman must be a better bet...

Massively stung by the last 21 years and especially by last summer. After the end to the 23/24 season, I thought we'd hit the ground running, but it went south bloody quickly.

Just gonna wait and see and hope for something better...
