Maybe not left back too much now though - RND with Esquerdinha, a youth player, as a short term back up does it for me! Thode injuries to Larkeche and Walsh are a bit of a touch really! Right Back - yep, absolutely - Dunne has no recognised back up anywhere in this squad. Mbengue, the Aussie lad, Bennie, Morgan - no ta! [Post edited 2 Oct 23:07]

He is. Smyth is limited, but he is canny winning lots of free kicks and understands the word "defending". Dembele can be fantastic, but he is far too lightweight and loses the ball in dangerous positions far, far too often. To the OP, he is 22 and was touted as one the world's greatest talents 5 or 6 years ago. I think that he is worth persevering with. But right now its up to him to bulk up the Illias Chair way - similar stature, but Chair will not get bullied off the ball and knows how to track back and defend. |

Nothing in it. Could go any way. They are nowhere near the worst team we have played this season. We have had the better chances, but neither team look like scoring at the moment. A bit "meh" which is better than a bit "shite"... |

This. Relegated teams generally start slowly as they are used to losing, but then their class and depth will start to show October / November time. With the cash advantage they have, it'll be hard for them not to get promoted by accident. Yes some teams have pushed the boat out a bit more this season (possibly because they know change to PSPis coming???)and have started better than expected, but surely they'll revert to type soon enough. |

So many weird speculative takes on this thread. It looks bad, looks awful, but who knows? Maybe he had a twinge and they felt the need to take him off because they are taking ZERO chances with him this time round. Maybe it was related to the hip issue or the calf or one of the many injuries he has had. Or maybe it was just unlucky and could happen to anyone. Maybe he is laughing because he conned the club into believing that they could get him playing. Maybe he is slipping into a really, really dark place as he is doing everything the medical guys tell him and still is breaking down. I have no idea yet, so speculating is pointless. Yes, we're all frustrated and yes, it always feels like we're a few matches away from yet another injury crisis, Maybe we ARE the cursed club. Who knows? All I say is, get back asap Jake, we're going to need you when Amadou gets his fifth booking of the season... |

Confidence is the key word with this team. That goes a long, long way in the Championship... |

No. They said that they would be back after "the International Break", but did not say which International Break nor how long after the break... Before this week, we did not need them, but after Saturday and in a three game week, we really could do with them... Just Dembele or Smyth to come in. The former started well Saturday then regressed into the frustrating defensive liability that he is and the latter looked way, way off it on Saturday. Going to be a couple of interesting games coming up... |

I will "knock" Walsh and I will "knock" Nardi as neither is good enough for a team pushing up the table. One needs massive improvement on distribution and the other one needs to improve his command of his box. Can't work out why the young 'un who had a season in the EFL and was MotM for Barnsley yesterday was sent out on loan instead of Walsh. If you are going to drop Nardi... |

As I said, the hope... Awful watch. No-one playing anywhere their potential. They are not the crap team everyone expected them to be; they are just typical Championship shite and are winning because they are less shite than us. Kone anonymous, Burrell on a go slow and Morrison having one of his worst games. Nardi though. Nardi. One worldie save, but that goal, that goal. Got to come out of the traps this half, but we don't usually, do we? |

Too much optimism. The hope, people, the hope... To lose 7-1 then win the next three is as QPR as playing the 4th game after that 7-1 against the team expected to be this seasons whipping boys and losing. They have lost all three at home. There is no-one here. They are a bunch of promising kids held together by a 36 year old veteran. They have little hope over the season. Let's hope is QPR that come out rather than CPR... |

Can't disagree that was an utter disgrace, but it was down to a number of individuals who have long since left the club. Each to their own, but there is only one club I'd enjoy seeing go to the wall and they are in SW London, not Sheffield. I would not wish what this lot, Bury, Reading, even Luton, Pompey, etc. are going through on any club. |

Going to try to get a black and yellow scarf to show solidarity with the Wednesday-ites. Anyone else? |

Only sw it live half a pitch away, but I was convinced that a) he got the ball and b) that he'd still be sent off for the follow through. Listen, back in the day those were the tackles to live for, but not now. Whether people like it or not, the gameme has changed and that was violent conduct, so he should have gone. The ref made yet another bizarre decision- drop ball, for that? Either foul and stop the game or play on. Then he bought both captains over for a chat - why? We lucked out there. On the yellow he did get, another truly baffling decision on my one sighting at the game. Attacker initiates contact when the ball was nowhere near by backing in to the defender and turning him. Yes Amadou pulls him back, but after he's been pushed in to being the wrong side. As I say, for a Premier League ref, Robinson was awful. |
 | Forum Reply | Morrison Goal Line Clearance Thread at 22:55 21 Sep 2025
I saw Morrison running out of his position and thought "he's getting pulled out of position", but then he pulls off that tackle - brilliant. There was one cock up from him in the game I seem to remember, but generally quietly brilliant. Strange game overall really. Great fun to watch, but could easily have been 4-3 or 5-4 if both sides could finish. It is what makes the Championship... |

Agree with the second part of your post, bit the first one is such a mad, mad take in my opinion. Dembele has got it going forward, but absolutely nothing facing the other way. Chair is slightly better going forward and infinitely better defensively. A straight choice between them two is no sort of choice at all. Watching Arsenal v City at the moment and for all the world class flair on show, the workrate on show from both teams is outstanding to a man. This amount of effort with and without the ball should be the minimum baseline. I just do not see that with Dembele. Lovely skills if we can get him out there as a free man, but I am just not sure we can play with a luxury. May sound harsh; he is a good player, but needs to strengthen up and wise up defensively... |
 | Forum Reply | Saito at 09:11 21 Sep 2025
I get your point, but a gamble at BETTER odds is still a gamble. All I said was that Saito and Edwards would be brilliant signings if we can afford them. If we can, excellent business as there is everyone chance we'd sell them on. If we can't (or because the curse kicks in and then get injured) then it'd be terrible. Overall I am delighted Saito is here. £2.5m sounds much better than £5m... |
 | Forum Reply | Saito at 08:42 21 Sep 2025
He is great, but whether anyone "wanted" him back was all down to affordability. Like Edwards. Both fantastic and I'd want them here, but if they signified a return to the gamble Austin, Steffan and De Wijs were, then it has to be a no; those three years were hard following QPR. However, if the Saito deal is affordable and doesn't significantly constrict us, fantastic business. Lovely to watch... |
