Jim mentioned post match there was a bit of sickness in the camp - whether that had affected EEL who knows? He also said he'd been 'advised' to only give Rodney 45 mins - I presume that is either doctors or the club fitness/physio team? And was because of Saturday/Wednesday/Saturday games.
I'd say more to not flog Rodney. Jim mentioned issues with him playing Sat/Tue or Wed/Sat. Amantchi is in no way a like for like replacement for Rodney and I think Smith is more of a match. From what I can remember he is pacey so unlike McBride or Barlow either. Without Rodney on Wednesday we looked desperately short of pace upfront.
Yes if you look at the last 2 games we have more points than Forest Green. 3pts to 2pts. Although a win and then a loss isn't great for morale it's brought us more points than Forest Green's 2 draws. We should be going for them Saturday from the first whistle with our strongest X1.
Just listened to Jim post match again and he says he was advised to only give Dev 45 mins? I presume any week we play Sat/Tue or Wed/Sat that Rodney will be managed this way because of his past issues. That's fine - but if you were only giving Dev 45 mins at home you would definitely do it in the 1st half. Most of our games this season we've been much better in the 1st half and scored to take the lead. Apart from the 2 games we've tinkered with the team where we've been losing both at ht 1-0 and lost both 2-1. Start with your strongest team then rest players if/when we are winning.
I mean if Jim is worried about fatigue why is he keeping EEL on the pitch when we are 3-0 up at Wealdstone and 4-0 up v Solihull. Both games he played 90 mins. If you want to rest his legs or save him for 'bigger' games give him a rest at the earliest opportunity when the games are won - not in a massive derby game at home.
I said that to my mates at the game - we probably exerted ourselves more in the last 30 minutes trying to chase the game than if we'd started our strongest team and gone 2-0 up. Jim will never say 'I was wrong' - infact post match he mentioned something about a sickness bug and 'managing' Dev's fitness as to why players were 'rested'. 9 wins from 11 games is still a brilliant start and the players all know a win on Saturday takes us back top and it would be massive psychologically beating Forest Green and ending their unbeaten run. All to play for.
We can't play our best eleven for every game but it is a worry that the 2 games we haven't started our strongest available team we've now lost them both. Yes we did more than enough to get at least a point tonight - but it is still a worry going forward.
I'm not blaming Hogan totally for the result because we created more than enough chances to at least not lose that game - but the 2 games Hogan has started we have lost both and conceded 2 for the only times this season. All will be forgotten if we beat Forest Green on Saturday - and we are definitely capable of a huge result down there.
They must have changed because I was listening out for Spennymoor's number after the FA Trophy defeat last season and they were supposed to be 16 on that list and they were 15.
