Yes a wonderful advert for football. No slow build up play or negative possession, just 2 teams going for it and trying to score goals and win. Inter Milans goalkeeper Yann Sommer - take a bow! 10 shots on target and he saved 7 of them outstandingly! 36 years old but never been better. Incredible.
As low down as Braintree are aswell - they have actually beaten all of the top 4 now at home! The home Southend league game was a bit of a non event if I remember. It was a late kick off for DAZN and they scored a scrappy goal in 1st half stoppage time. That was it! Dont think we really troubled their keeper much - hopefully we can actually go for it and an early goal would help. A cagey 0-0 is not what we want but it will be probably what we get.
2 awful goals conceded defensively but Ebanks-Landell should have had a penalty awarded 100% when it was 1-0. Blatant shove in the back from their player - not quite sure where the officials were looking? There's been some bizarre reactions to todays result/performance. Last day end of season games with nothing to play for have seen these types of performances many times. It matters not one bit - the season starts now, win 3 games and we are promoted.
My mate who went said Barrett collided with one of their players just before Hendo scored. Not worthy of showing on either Solihull's highlights or Dale's so that probably tells you something.
Wonderful highlights. What a quality performance of nearly total dominance and a great save from Barrett before halftime. Solihull keeper outdid him though!
He's definitely got issues at the moment and Jim knows it. After Birds cameo on Saturday and his neat finish Jim made a point of praising Mitchell's involvement (he basically played a pass out wide to Kingdon) but Jim was glowing about Mitchell being a team player but the crowd never sung his name only the goalscorer Bird??? Mitchell will be involved in the play off games but it will be Rodney, Bird and Henderson ahead of him. We dont need him sulking when we are on the crest of something massive. Hopefully he will get a goal on Monday against Braintree.
I'm sorry to be harsh but Fin Armstrong isn't good enough. He's not played much because of that. A bit like Afuye last season - it was obvious. The limited times I've seen Armstrong he looks short of pace, uncomfortable on the ball and not a good passer... apart from that he's average.
I suppose we could only answer that if we are promoted at Wembley on June 1st. It was heartbreaking and embarrassing losing on penalties at home in the semi final - ultimately the players have responded (Fylde exception) and hopefully tonight guarantee 4th place and a first play-off game at home. No other distraction's and a chance to rest before the play-offs begin - yes we all would have loved to have been at Wembley on Sunday May 11th but would it have been ideal preparation for a play off game 3 or 4 days later? Fatigue and injuries possible. And then if we had lost to Aldershot getting over that disappointment with very little time. Tonight's opponents Solihull went to both finals last season and lost both. Also Spennymoor having got to the final have now missed out on the play-offs by 1 point. Hopefully we will be looking back in a few weeks time and the FA Trophy loss will be a distant memory.
I really hope we can do it. The odds are stacked against us purely based on history. 1 play off win in 7 games is awful really. Yes it is in the past and you shouldn't really look back and create new history but its hard being a Dale fan because we've never been to any play off final and won. Until it happens it is a massive monkey on our backs. I really hope Jim and the players can do it. If any club deserves its day in the sun its us after so many days in the doldrums.
