An undeserved defeat to Cambridge on Tuesday night. DC described as them as one the best footballing teams in the league. Well, if that is truly the case then we don’t have much to worry about when considering promotion this season. Cambridge were outplayed for long periods of the game. We managed to undo all our good work in a two-minute spell just before half time. They took their limited opportunities, we didn’t, simples. Today Barrow are in Town and we must be looking to get back to winning ways. I predict a 3-0 home win with the outstanding Lisbie on the scoresheet. Take the game to Andy Whing’s side and score early. We can put right the mistakes that were made on Tuesday night. The recent serious ACL injury to Ben Perry has been a real loss to the team and adds to injuries to Ellis Iandolo and Goodwin plus long-term injury to Milton Oni. DC still hasn’t worked out his best team. Anderson I understand is fit which fills me with trepidation. He is so overrated by DC which I simply do not understand. Go with the following this Saturday: Macey KVY Flanagan Tucker Powell Edwards Bishop Payne Read Tovide Lisbie Subs Akande Thorn Gordon Hunt Smith Williams Gape Few people have been commenting on our pitch. It looks superb and is playing brilliantly. Full marks to the management for allowing valuable cash injections from the Farmers to finance the close season work which was well documented on the Colchester sites. Perhaps we are having problems readjusting to such a true surface. This will only enhance the football and our team over the course of almost 30 games at the JCS this season. After Chris’ departure after 13 years of sterling work to the club, Michael has proven to be a real asset too. His efficiency in sourcing the new shirts has been brilliant. Weather today will be 19 degrees some cloud and sunny intervals and dry. Another decent crowd today and three points what’s not to like. Enjoy the game. Up the U’s |

 | Forum Thread | Super U's get off to a great start at Boundary Park with three valuable points at 20:48 8 Aug 2025
Now I watched from the comfort of my armchair the season opener at home to Tranmere Rovers on Sky Sports+. First half was both disappointing and slow but second half DC made some key and brave interventions and those proved critical as we deservedly equalised through Kyreece Lisbie who is going to be a star striker for the U’s this year. Another 5 minutes and we would have won the game. Tomorrow we travel to Boundary Park Oldham led by Micky Mellon. My son and daughter in law are taking me in the car and I have my new Away shirt and very good it is too. He will be keen to get off to a good home start against the Super U’s. Former U Luke Hannant might play otherwise seasoned U’s supporters will be familiar with several of the Latics playing staff. Away supporters have been moved to the Chadderton end for the last couple of visits. Expect a decent and partizan crowd. I have been visiting Boundary Park for many years and it is very good to be reassociated with them after three years away from the league. Tomorrow will be exacting. Oldham took a point from MK Dons (who have emerged as the bookies favourites for promotion). Frankly I don’t buy into that. Ahead of the Oxford Carabao Cup game (televised) we should be looking to secure a vital away win. That is without any disrespect to the Latics. Early days of course DC is still deciding upon his first XI But let’s go with 4,4,2 Macey Baldwin Tucker Flanagan Powell Thorn Bishop Perry Edwards Lisbie Williams Subs: Smith Goodwin Akande Tovide Gordon Read KVY Weather will be sunny intervals with a moderate breeze and 19 degrees Celsius. Safe journey to all the travelling faithful. Prediction 3-1 to the Super U’s with Edwards, Lisbie and Wiliams all on the scoresheet. Up the U’s |

 | Forum Thread | Colchester to start with morale boosting win against Tranmere at the JCS at 12:06 2 Aug 2025
As we prepare to embark on our 10th season in League two there must be incredible optimism amongst the club, management, players and supporters that this season the Cowleys can guide us to promotion to league one. Lat season amongst the 92 clubs Colchester’s increase in attendance was the 3rd highest in percentage terms. We entertain Tranmere Rovers who struggled last season and now have Andy Crosby in charge at Prenton Park. We will once again be able to watch over 20 U’s games on Sky Sports including today’s opener plus Carabao Cup and Vertu Trophy games. Today is all about a bright and winning start for Colchester and I am predicting a 2-0 home victory with Goodwin (Godwin’s on fire) and Tovide on the scoresheet. I think that the Cowleys have invested wisely during the summer. Ben Perry from Nottingham Forest, Will Goodwin from Oxford United and Jaden Williams from Spurs will be useful additions. Taking the injuries into account first. Milton Oni will remain sidelined until November. Ellls Iandolo is out for 12 weeks with a knee injury. Jack Payne is back in training but there is no word on Dominic Gape who also has a soft tissue injury. Now for more positive news. We have on paper the strongest looking strike force for many years. Will Goodwin, Jaden Williams, Samson Tovide, Kyreece Lisbie will present the opposition with many headaches over the season. Supported by Owura Edwards, Oscar Thorn, John Kymani Gordon, Harry Edwards, Kane Vincent Young, Ben Perry, Teddy Bishop, Adrian Akande. The defence looks to need some strengthening where we have Tom Flanagan, Rob Hunt, Kurai Musanhi, Jack Turner and Frankie Terry. So, who will Danny Cowley select For his squad today. I’m going with Macey Hunt, Flanagan Tucker, Terry Perry Bishop Read Edwards Goodwin Tovide Subs: Smith, Thorn, Vincent-Young, Williams, Anderson, Akande, Lisbie Expect a great turnout from the faithful today with 300 from the Wirral. Get right behind the team and roar them onto victory. Oh, and my outcome for the season. Promotion via the Play Offs. Up the U’s |

 | Forum Thread | Bluebirds to be annihilated by resurgent super U' s at the JCS at 10:14 2 May 2025
The magnificent support from the faithful at home to Crewe and Away at Doncaster and Salford ultimately counted for nothing as the U’s only secured one point from the Easter Fixtures. The missed penalty at home to Crewe might have cost us a place in the play offs but over a season one incident should not be blamed for glorious failure. Several matches could be cited as leading to the failure; the Accrington game and Harrogate Away but there will be others that have contributed. Worse still injuries towards the end of the season have taken away the spine of the team with McDonnell, Bishop, Payne, Tovide and Taylor all injured at the worst possible time. But today is not about pessimism or regret it is about celebration of a marvellous season where the Cowleys have transformed a relegation threatened team to potential play off candidates. This has happened over about 16 months and the fact that this weekend if we defeat Barrow and three other results go our way then we can sneak into seventh place in the play offs and who knows what may happen after that. Last week at Moor Lane we saw Caoimhim Kelleher (Fiacre’s younger brother.) He was happy to pose for photos and wandered nonchalantly back to his car after the game. Table: Doncaster 45 81 +22 PV 45 80 +20 Bradford 45 75 +18 Walsall 45 74 +20 Notts Co 45 72 +20 Wimbledon 45 70 +20 Salford 45 68 +10 Grimsby 45 68 -5 Chesterfield 45 67 +18 COL U 44 66 +5 Those fixtures: Accrington v Chesterfield (to lose or draw) Carlisle v Salford (to lose or draw*) Grimsby (to lose or draw) v Wimbledon And of course: Colchester (to win) v Barrow (should we win 6-0* then we could allow Salford to draw at Brunton Park). Forget about that game on the last day when we defeated Barrow 5-0 although that would be nice. I will take any victory and then Chesterfield, Salford and Grimsby to slip up. Well of course it has been done before. Ten years ago, we played host to PNE on the last day of the season requiring not only a win but also for three results to also go our way. Crawley at home to Coventry Notts Co at Gillingham Orient at Swindon PNE were unbeaten for 18 games and wanted automatic promotion. 8,413 were packed into the then Weston Homes Stadium and witnessed a U’s penalty miss before great work from Chris Porter set up George Moncur who secured the winning goal. Crawley lost 2-1, Notts Co lost 2-1 and Orient drew 2-2 meaning that all three were relegated with already doomed Yeovil Town. Stranger things well let’s see at 4:50pm on Saturday. Weather tomorrow at the JCS will be 19 degrees Celsius and sunny. The infamous pitch should look a picture and will play its part in a U’s win. Essentially there is no pressure on Colchester because when they trudged off at Salford it was all over. But who really knows what will happen on this Saturday afternoon? Well, I’m going for a 6-0 Colchester victory (which allows Salford to sneak a draw against Mark Hughes). Lets sign off in style after a tremendous season which has seen the U’s deserving of a play off spot and hopefully they will achieve it. Tovide hattrick, Payne and Thorn to complete the rout in front of a near 8,000 crowd. But who does NC play. The injuries and sticking plasters have been applied and I would hope that we can see the following take the field in a 4,3,3 formation. After all we have nothing to lose and require a win. Let’s send the faithful home happy whatever happens at Accrington, Carlisle or Grimsby respectively. Macey Egbo Kells Flanagan Iandolo Read Payne Bishop Thorn Tovide Lisbie Subs: Smith, Hunt, KVY, Scully, Simpson, Tucker, Gordon Now no disrespect to Andy Whing and his Blue Bird team, but they are already on the beach and I expect the U’s to defeat them at fortress JCS. Looking to next season I see that Peterborough have said that Bradley Ihionvien has no future at London Road (what a waste). I would have him back notwithstanding the fact that he has been wasted with them this season. Really looking forward to the game. Some retail therapy in the shop and perhaps meeting up with some of the U’s stalwarts. We will be in W2 (as normal for a home match). Enjoy the game. Up the U’s All the way to League one!
