Well didn't I get the team selection spectacularly wrong. I left out Anderson in my selection preferring Edwards but am delighted for Harry (I've never been his greatest supporter, but great to see another first half hattrick in successive league games. Congratulations to the club and I wouldn't mind another three goals second half. Up the U's |

This week there can be no complacency after some improved and consistent performances which has seen the U’s slowly climbing the table. We can achieve midtable with another three points at the JCS on Saturday with the Sulphurites led by Simon Weaver in Town who has clocked up 700 games with Harrogate.. Will Goodwin and Samson Tovide could be fit but I have to say I much prefer Lisbie and Mbick as a strike duo to Tovide who struggles to make a difference whereas the others are more mobile, with more pace, and they both know where the goal is. Team Macey KVY Araujo Tucker Iandolo Bishop Payne Read Edwards Lisbie Mbick Subs Smith Hunt Gordon Williams Tovide Powell Kuffour Jnr Harrogate by contrast are difficult to beat although not always the most watchable team in the league. I predict Colchester to keep the run going on a warm sunny day with 14 degrees Celsius likely with a comfortable 4-0 win at the JCS. These are the type of games where home wins are essential and will help us climb the League Two table. Enjoy the game, decent crowd expected and lets keep the unbeaten run going. Up the U’s |

We had a great set of results against the Franchise last season. Can't ask for more than a home match in Round One. Could even be televised. Up the U's |

Gerry, I hope that Papas was better fare than Colchester are serving up at present. Our continuing lack of consistency remains a real puzzle. We can do much better. Up the U's |

Poor goal to concede. No marking from the corner Macey then at fault to allow the soft header to go in. Must do far better than this especially against the Mariners. I would have kept Smith in goal. Up the U's |

Once again David Artell’s Blundell Park outfit are playing out of their skins and possibly above their abilities and have not only secured a high-flying top three League Two position but also are enjoying a great Carabao Cup run with Brentford next at their stadium. So, we can expect a difficult game on Saturday live on Sky Sports + at 3pm but Colchester have started to hit some decent form of late themselves and I expect our form to continue with a 3-1 deserved win to maintain our climb up the table. Weather will be 11 degrees Celsius with sunny intervals and light winds. Team: Smith KVY Araujo Tucker Iandolo Payne Read Bishop Anderson Lisbie Mbick Subs: Kuffour Macey Gordon Hunt Edwards Williams Powell Safe journey to the travelling faithful. Sadly, I won’t be present on Saturday and so will miss out on Papas Fish n chips, on Cleethorpes Pier but I will watch on Sky. Gerry, enjoy the game and the three points. Up the U’s |

Great win today. Always good to score six goals at home and Chez Vegas are no pushovers, so a most satisfactory afternoon. Now the key word is consistency ahead of a trip to Cleethorpes next weekend. Up the U's |

After last week’s horror show the U’s are back on home territory for a difficult encounter against the Gas. Everything last week was set up nicely for a U’s win. Accrington bottom of the league and inconsistent results. The U’s getting back to a settled team despite numerous injuries as identified by RS in an earlier post. The facilities in the 1958 lounge were superb. We sat with three local supporters who made us very welcome. Indeed, everyone welcomed us from the car park attendant to the MC and the Club Chairman. As it was a lunchtime kick off, we had a pre match bacon sandwich and drink before taking our seats in the main stand. Strangely the U’s faithful 202 including the three of us were quiet from before kick off I had predicted a healthy 3-0 U’s win, and we got off to the worse possible start. Outplayed, outmuscled and out fought throughout the entire first half we could have been 3-0 down before Lisbie missed a gilt-edged chance to equalise on half time. I have never known such a poor half of football with the U’s second best in every department. The second half saw a slight improvement but in fairness it couldn’t have been any worse. The end of the game was greeted with silence from the faithful perhaps failing to fully comprehend just what a poor game they had witnessed. We returned to the 1958 lounge, and I learned that my crowd attendance estimate was only two out. I won a Bottle of 18-year-old Irish whiskey, and we then settled down to a two-course lunch of braised beef with mash and vegetables followed by a selection of three desserts. The food was superb and the people friendly. We enjoyed a leisurely drink with our lunch before heading home. I was obviously disappointed with the scoreline, but the rest of the day was memorable despite the 90 minutes of abject misery. Today Darrell Clarke is in town with the Gas, and it will be a difficult match. Time to roll up the sleeves and get back to some form after the disappointing results we have experienced recently. Will Matt Macey be fit, otherwise I reckon I have the starting XI. Smith KVY Tucker Araujo Powell Bishop Payne Read Gordon Lisbie Tovide Subs Chamberlain Gape Williams MBick Hunt Baldwin Anderson Weather will be 22 degrees Celsius and sunny intervals. I reckon a narrow 1-0 home victory with Lisbie on the scoresheet. Enjoy the game. Up the U’s |
