I suspect another one that fits Clive’s phrase: ‘Didn’t get the holiday that was advertised in the brochure’.

I liked him but his limitations as a full back in a ‘four’ were found out by opposing managers / teams.

Charlie Kelman’s Leyton Orient

Orient’s owners have invested significantly and I think will continue to do so.

But this has been in wages and infrastructure. They have not shown, as of yet, any indication that they are willing to pay that kind of fee for anyone.

7-figure fees would be breaking new ground for them. Are they going to step up their commitment for a player, unproven at Championship level? I somewhat doubt this, but who knows?

So it was back to Catalunya after all. Yeah but I’m pretty surprised.

End of Term Report 24/25 – Attack
at 10:55 23 May 2025

So much was I enjoying the panel podcasts that I had neglected the written pieces, until yesterday. Oh what bounteous joy.

Where else could you find stories of a centurion French lady and a small Japanese boy interwoven into the narrative of your football team?

I have been reading Clive’s stuff for a very long time. I am sure that he’s hasn’t used that story about young Ake before; perhaps he never had the opportunity. But what absolute gold, I was literally crying with laughter.

I know, I know. When Clive does his ‘Stop it / Grow up’ (see here Brest and previously e.g. Will Smallbone) it’s aimed at idiots like me.

Read the piece again this morning and it set me off again.

Have a good holiday Clive.

I liked Ange at Celtic, but at Tottenham not so much.

I’ve realised that this is because I like Celtic, but don’t like Tottenham.

Have listened to the podcast twice now. Excellent and hilarious.

You can’t beat a Harold Shipman gag, with honourable mention to JCS and Dave Thomas’ dog.

Yes, mostly clubs with late season action in the playoffs and others like us without a manager.

You could be right but doesn’t he have the ambition to play at the highest possible level?

Surely a champions’ league club could tempt him.

Is it time to admit that Ultras are the way forward?

Yeah fair enough good luck to them. But as I said, not for me.

I think we would look even more ridiculous if we copied them.

Uncle Albert on fire for Walsall
at 09:51 17 May 2025

I think Walsall have mainly used him like this as an impact sub. He evidently doesn’t have the legs for 90 minutes even in League 2.

That is classic wing play perhaps from a different era and it filled me with emotion and joy.

Albert Adomah is a joyful footballer.

BBC reporting that Wrexham are about to offer out-of-contract Tom Cairney (34) £50k a week.

I mean blimey, we’re nowhere near competing with that.

I think he was referring to the Brentford players not R’s.
