 | Forum Reply | Can we play a CB who is not guaranteed a mistake a game? at 15:04 18 Aug 2025
I don't get the obsession with the so called organiser at the back. Obviously if they happen to be better players than we currently have then by all means bring them in. Conor Coady the new mythical leader that many are having wet dreams over has been part of a defence that's conceded 5 goals in 2 games compared to our hapless leaderless defence that's conceded 2 in 2 games... |
 | Forum Reply | So, why didn't Ross Stewart start? at 14:48 11 Aug 2025
Thought he looked decent against Arsenal in our last Prem game and got himself a goal. I would have hoped to see him start too as Downs is still settling in and Arma is not a Centre forward. |

Good to see Stephens was picked for the team of the week. Excellent Captains performance on Saturday where he stayed calm whilst his fellow CBs flapped at times. Topped it off by storming up the pitch and showed the misfiring strikers how to score with the injury time . We'll done Skipper! |

Well I reckon he's done OK for a charlatan Promotion and Championship Playoffs with Luton. Promotion with Charlton . |

Yeah I feel the same way. Terrible fit for us at that time but I like it that he's an abrasive and fiery character , it makes him interesting . |

From this particular game and I appreciate its a little harsh to judge him fully on this, but he's not a player that gets really involved in the match. We already have Archer who is basically a passenger unless he's presented with chances, and Downs so far seems the same but with added height tbf. We need a focal point, an outlet who's strong enough to bring others into the game..like Rickie or Che. Stewart maybe able to do this but I suspect his fragile body will let him down again. Maybe Downs given a few games will show this....hopefully, because I can't see us bringing another striker in. |

Downs was a 6.5m punt, so I'm guessing the club won't be devastated if he doesn't work out. From watching the whole of a FC Koln game on YouTube where he played I'd say he's more Mara than Che Adams. |
 | Forum Reply | Bazunu and Manning at 14:04 10 Aug 2025
Agreed, but ultimately it was Stephens who saved us with a captains performance , saving us with a couple of last ditch tackles and the drive to get up the pitch and get the winner. |
 | Forum Reply | 5 Things From The Wrexham Game at 10:55 10 Aug 2025
It's amazing how differently we hear the home/away fans. Sat next to the Northam I could barely hear the Wrexham fans . The Northam was quiet for a chunk of the game which is pretty understandable as we were losing and struggling to break through and us long suffering fans were thinking " here we go again yet another defeat" Armstrong is a terrible centre forward and we need a leader up front to boss the oppo centre backs. He needs to be put on the right or on the bench if Still prefers a more out and out winger. Edwards was poor , destination and slow. He really needs to up his game. Wood in for Ipswich I reckon or just 2 CBs. Quarshie/Wood and Stephens. Quarshie has real potential but I sense a big error that will cost us a goal/ game is coming soon! THB and Stephens is the best pairing. Our full backs are so inconsistent. Manning was brilliant yesterday when he came on but he so capable of poor performance. Bree is very average and steady but surely we need a better than average Sugawara is erratic. Wellington has decent games but yesterday summed up why he still doesn't convince me . |

On paper we have a squad that should be bare minimum top 6. As club if our stature and we're financially stable with the parachute payments we should be top 2. Last time in the Championship we had not only KWP but Che Adams , Aribo ( likely leaving) , Stuart Armstrong , THB (possibly leaving and Bednarek . These are big misses and so far we added 2 prospects but not proven players. We only finished 4th last time around on 87 points on what's regarded as a 3 horse race. This time we'll likely need 90 plus points . We need to improve alot and we need to bring 2 or 3 high quality proven players , otherwise we risk getting overtaken by the likes of Brum, Ipswich , Sheff Utd. In the Premier league we stood still and allowed Palace , Brentford, Brighton , Bournemouth to overtake us. I hope our owners show enough ambition to not allow this to happen in the Championship . |

Going by Stills comments , Aribo will likely be gone too before the window slams shut. Priority number 1 is to bring in a creative attacking midfielder. |
 | Forum Thread | Brighton friendly. Positives and Negatives. at 19:34 2 Aug 2025
Positives. 1.Bazunu looked good, a couple of decent saves and looked confident throughout the game. 2. Stills substitutions and change in formation worked a treat. 5-3-2 with attacking full backs worked really well. Edwards came on a looked decent . Negatives. 1. 4-2-3-1 formation didn't work. Appreciate Brighton are miles better than us but Bree and Manning were getting ripped apart by Mitoma and Minteh. 2. Sesay is not ready to start matches , they tore through us at will particularly first half. We'll need Flynn back there pronto alongside Charles. 3. Quarshie was hit and miss. Good in the air and showed his pace but badly at fault particularly for the first goal where he stood off Minte. |

Just out of curiosity I checked out a Leicester forum about this as it surprised me that he couldn't get in their last Championship side ahead of Vestergaard. The first half a dozen comments i could be bothered to read were basically saying he was useless, overpaid, worst player to ever play for them etc etc. This adds to my theory that CBs in general are now a much maligned species as going by the opinions on here and Saints Web , we've basically not had a decent one since Van Dyke and Fonte. One of them was regarded as the best CB in the world and the other won a Euros, 50 plus caps for a great Portugal team and the French league. Is it possible we have unrealistic expectations of defenders in the modern game on modern pitches? |
 | Forum Reply | Ryan Bertrand on Hassenhutl at 23:01 24 Jul 2025
This brought back memories of Bournemouth at home midweek in 2019. We were absolutely shocking , particularly first half and were 2 nil down. Ralph in his wisdom played Cedric at LB and Danso at RB. Bertrand was sub and came on at HT , but it was too late and the damage was done. Everyone was fuming at HT and couldn't understand the team selection . Now I know why. |
