What would be 'success' this season with this squad/manager?
at 17:42 7 Oct 2025

Now that we have been in the top half for a few games, let's stay there and see where it takes us. Now that we have a stronger squad carry on using it for the three game weeks and especially the busy Christmas/New Year period. We might have a team that is not totally knackered and ready to give the FA Cup 3rd Round a serious go.

I'd get him to play full back in the ds games. Toughen him up more and learning how to defend better. Then in January, if all our wide attacking options are fit, loan him out to an SPL side. Then next pre season we re-evaluate.

I just like to listen, learn, contribute and enjoy. I can't be just a conformist as I've actually liked a couple of your posts.

You just never seem to be prepared to move your position or admit that you are wrong when virtually every one says you are.

When the inevitable bust up between the benches happens, we need Mbengue involved to add a bit of scariness and steel.😁

Game three - Preview
at 11:14 4 Oct 2025

Now I can be a bit pedantic about some things. I like attention to detail and accuracy.

HOWEVER....... it's a three game week. Game one usually finishes at about 5pm and the third game is normally a 3pm start SEVEN DAYS and SEVEN SLEEPS LATER. That is two hours less than a full week!

Even if you turn it on it's head it works out at a week plus about two hours.

So it's three game week.😁

Well, you go your way, if you must, ignoring every one else. Judging by the views expressed on here, it seems like you will be on your own. Maybe that won't bother you though, as you are probably used to it.

Yes it had all that.......in it's day. If you put them, in their then condition etc, into the modern game, the only time they would get the ball is when they kicked off and they would probably do that quite a few times.

If they tried to do a season with that number of players today, they would struggle to get a team out most weeks as they would pick up numerous injuries, through fatigue.

As was referred to earlier in this thread, Tuesday and Wednesday this week. Not one team from the twelve fixtures won at home. There were four away wins and three of those were by the odd goal. This is such acting competitive division. Most times games can go either way.

It's important to keep doing what we are but find that extra little bit of creativity.

You're comparing pineapples and cooking apples.

One is sweet and easy to eat the other is bitter but far more adaptable.

If you watch the old games from the 70's on ITV 4, it's a different sport. The pace is totally different, space is much easier to find. The modern game is intense, passing lanes are shut down, players are able to drop back and double up on wingers.

If the 75/76 squad, at the age, in the condition and with squad they then had, were to compete in the current championship, they would be annihilated. They would struggle with the pace, dead on their feet by half time and if they had somehow managed to keep the score down would be heavily defeated by the end.

I mean no disrespect to the 75/76 team. They excelled in their era, albeit only really for one season, were ahead of their time in terms of tactics and passing and are my heroes.

Players Performance assessed by television viewers as against fans at the game.
at 09:50 1 Oct 2025

Add to that numpty, when judging players there is an element of in built bias and maybe some going with or against those that shout loudest.

If people like a certain player they will highlight his positives. If they are not a fan of him, they are likely to stress the negatives. Hence the 'marmite' player.

You can't see the whole pitch either, especially when they keep showing 20 odd second clips of the manager.

A very accurate and fair report.

Interesting anecdote about the penalty. I didn't know or had forgotten it. When you say new rule, is it new to you or a change in the laws?

Bit of an exaggerated reaction to the situation, imho.

We all know that it wasn't a good performance but we battled hard, created a few chances and defended pretty well, overall. Maybe worthy of the point we got.

In amongst the poor individual performances and poor passing, there was a very decent game from RND and good ones from Madsen, Mbengue and Morrison.

If things go wrong the rest of this week, then our bubble will have burst, but in the meantime, we plan for a home game against Oxford and try and get the three points.
