The difference is Wrexham generate ‘their own’ income though commercial deals based, which they only get because they are owned by famous actors and the Netflix series resulting from that. It’s not about either set of owners personal wealth. They don’t have PSR issues as they make so much money from sponsors and advertising. We seem to be going that way to an extent by bringing Modric on board. That will benefit us commercially, but nowhere near as much as Wrexhams owners. |

I wanted them to do well to a point. It’s gone too far now. They are a direct rival with more money than us. |

Agree. The plan now seems to be put robust enough systems in place to identify the next McBurnies and Darlings, before they make it and can command hefty salaries. Think both are fantastic players (basing Oli on his time here), but I’m not convinced throwing the chequebook at them is the right play, when we’ve got a thin squad and could spend the money they would command on four or five quality players. I’d certainly love that type of striker here though. |

I’ve got no problem admitting that although I’m no fan of what’s going on up there, I’d feel totally differently if we had owners capable of legally circumventing PSA |

I normally agree with your posts but I’m completely with Raynor on this one. Can’t understand why any Swans fan would rather them than Wycombe, who are never going to compete with us over a season, as direct competition. I don’t think Wrexham will challenge top six straight away, but they could easily buy their way to it in a couple of seasons. I say that as a Welshman who wants England to lose every time they play. |

Yes, but not as a Darling replacement. If he goes, we need a physically dominant centre back. I think Delcroix would be excellent as cover or if we ever had to play three at the back. I wouldn’t make him a priority though. |

Yes, they have a unique model that’s based almost entirely on generating revenue based on who their owners are. Nothing untoward, technically the club is generating the income, but in reality it’s not. I’ll be happy when Reynolds gets bored and Wrexham find their natural level. |

Just goes to show how much of a mess Levein and Kaplan left us in. We’ll have a much stronger first team next season, but it’s going to take time to build a competitive squad. Water thin in most positions and a glut of underwhelming strikers. |

Said very much the same on the championship play off thread a few days ago. Proper fans coming together to support a club they had no previous link to. I’ve kept half an eye out on their results since. Plus they’ve got Abdulai and Brandon Cooper. I don’t really care about former players, but it’s nice to see ones who almost made it here doing well |

Just as we’re starting to get our act together we’ve got two financially doped teams to deal with. Wrexham and Birmingham are going to be linked with everyone this summer though. They won’t sign a fraction of them. |

Can’t condone it but in fairness he seemed to be a model pro during the season (when he was here). Never heard anything about attitude, professionalism or anything like that. It’s pretty clear what’s happened before he’s recorded that video though. |

Martin, Duff and Williams were so unpopular some people were desperate to blame them for anything and everything. A lot of the criticism they got was entirely of their own making. Our board signing players who already had attitude problems and the utter failure at recruiting strikers since Piroe wasn’t. |

I missed this post. For anyone at the home game during the Petty era, it’s hard not to like and respect their fans. Even more so given they’ve been through a tough time with a terrible owner more recently. O’s against asset stripping |

A week or so ago I said he was the perfect example of a loan done correctly and that I’d be fairly confident we could source a player of similar quality on a season long loan. I’d love to have Lewis here, either on loan or permanently, but not at the expense of improving a few areas for the sake of one player. Same applies to Darling. Great players who I’d love to have here, but not if it means we put all our eggs into that basket and don’t strengthen up front or beef up our threadbare squad. |

Doing it to Asoro is fine. Same goes for Pedersen, Tjoe a on, Ogbeta and plenty of others. You can’t do it to key players, especially with a squad as thin as ours. That much is obvious, surely? |

I have a lot more faith in our recruitment team than I have in the past. Montague is also getting deals over the line. As players, I obviously want Darling and O’Brien here next season. However, if they are going to take massive chunks out of our budget and drastically limit who we can bring in, maybe we would be better off with four or five well sourced, cheaper, players. |

This is usually my mindset. This time it’s a bit different given the way we ended the season, the signings announced already and the general vibe around the club that we haven’t had for a very long time. I’ll enjoy the break, but got a feeling I’ll start missing football quicker than most summers. |

So would that offer become unviable if we signed a ready made replacement on less than that, but still decent money? Joe Low as an example Another point, would someone like Low want to sign knowing we are still waiting on Darling and would signing someone like that put Darling off? Either one of them or our captain would be on the bench every week. |

In theory, I agree with you. Problem is, whether he signs or not affects our recruitment plans, so presumably bringing someone in on a big wage may mean we then can’t honour the offer he’s currently got. We need another centre back anyway. No issue bringing in a backup, but I don’t think we can sign a Darling replacement (unless much cheaper) then re-sign Darling. |
