🎥 Live Screening: Boreham Wood v Rochdale AFC
at 18:13 10 Aug 2025

Only issue was the opposition showed no interest in pressing. Of course playing to be the press creates space and as I said not all team will do that and we will have opportunities to beat the press. with the risk that brings, but we will try that no doubt as one of our options

Dev did a great job holding the ball for the second goal. There was no other Dale player in sight when he started his run.
Really am perplexed by your comment about condensing space to create more room. Your right we do have options like TAR and Pritchard and of course playing to the two forward’s strengths. Hopefully we won’t play many sides that sit off us so much as these did, inviting us to move up the field so freely. Think they sucked us into that sort of style because it suited them when they weren’t in possession. Think Alty will be different and that will help us to adopt more balanced tactics. Getting the mix right is Jim’s job. Early days mind.

Most games I saw last season and this one give the false impression there is no space on the pitch, but truth is we engineer those situations. Yesterday I said to my nephew at this rate Whatmuff will have possession in the centre circle, and he got within 10 feet of it at one stage. Why condense the space like that, I just don’t get it. Also felt sorry for TAR he was always showing for the ball but was virtually ignore until we were already 2 up.
My first impression of Tutonda was positive. He has more pace than Beckwith and liked a battle. No worries in that area.
Good to hear Jason Taylor excerising his vocal cords when it was needed.
Also like that Dev and Mani have different strengths, one who likes the ball in front of him to run onto and the other very good at receiving with his back to goal but still finding space to work in. Will we make the most of our assets? I am not convinced. But not prepared to make judgement after just one game.

Well that turned out ok in the end. Have enjoyed my 2 trips to Bwood, aid today by a bar being installed for away fans. It’s a nice club, but a shame they are so poorly supported. Fairly low key start to the game, but we asked more questions as it progressed. We deserved the lead and still looked capable through the second half. Last time at there place we went 1 up and they then ran us ragged. While sure they had some good periods when they started chasing it, they were unable to dominate like they did before. So that’s progress. Mani D has lots of elements to his game and is no one trick target man pony.
Liked that we were able to take Rodders and East off without looking a lesser team for it. Have not always been able to say that in the past. Positive signs. So in midfield Edwards Burger and Humbles lost out today and that is without McBride and Mancini being fit. Jim will have a job keeping a harmonise camp. Can se some loans happing fairly soon.
Still lots to work on but happy with that today.

Boreham Wood predictions for tomorrow.
at 11:10 9 Aug 2025

Due to be around 25c there today. Expect some slow periods of play today. Think we should win it, will go for 2-1. The team sheet will be interesting. Who is not going to be involved? Think Moss, Burger, Hossanah, plus the two injured lads won’t be travelling, which would be hard on Burger but Jim has packed the midfield options. Think Mani and Dev will start up front and the back line will be the same as the end of last season. Overall I hope 3 or 4 recruits will start. But Jim is so loyal I can see it just being Mani. I would be disappointed if that is the case.

The Fitzture List - Rochdale Rising: Inside McNulty’s push for sustainable suc
at 17:27 31 Jul 2025

Interesting response ATP. Have to agreed with much of that. I also think the interview responses demonstrate why he is the Ogdens man, they fit like a hand in a tailored glove. He understands their M O, he is articulately bought into their plan and beautifully represents their aspirations in font of the media. Steve Evans he ain’t and but he is not expected to be that forthright, confrontational type of manager.
I do also accept he has adopted a different type of recruitment this season. It has a sense of Martin O’Neil about it, bringing in players because their skills match what he wants . So effectively saying keep doing what you do already do well. I am not going to try and reinvent you.

A bit like “that” goal at Southend which has to an extent define our style for several years, the signing of Bob Sanchez has set us on a path where we can’t resist signing young inexperienced goalkeepers. I understand there have been exceptions, but we do seemed to get sucked into loaning players who are sent here to learn from their mistakes before in the cases of Sanchez and Bazunu going on to better things. I hope this season one of these lads matures quickly and makes their mistakes early in the season, so they can settle into the role and become a positive signing.

Kairo gone FGR

Got to be pleased for the lad. To get released and end up at a club that pay well and have a good record in the league must have been as good as he could have hoped for. Plus it is a lovely area of the country to live in.
Kairo, get some sausages down your neck while you still can.

Difficult to keep track of all the midfield options available. His CV is impressive enough with loads of league experience. The competition for places will be intense, which is no bad thing. It is possible that all of East, Gilmour and Edward will not be in the starting 11 on day one. Whereas I would have said before that would be impossible. Let’s hope this is a wise move and not a trend of accumulating players for a specific part of the pitch which we say last season.
Will at least one contracted midfielder go out on loan. I can see it.
Credit to the board for the backing.

Boreham Wood (away)
at 14:44 10 Jul 2025

Borehamwood is an easy journey for me with the car park right outside the ground. Perfect starter for me other than it being a promoted side we play first. Third year running we have played a promoted side on the first day. The better test will be Alty the following week.

Thanks for the post. Always reassuring when somebody has regularly had eyes on a new recruit and gives the thumbs up.

The only stats I can find for him suggest he is 5 9” and weighs just under 10 stone. Kante was small but an excellent defensive midfielder. Mani being the exception. He could easily be the free defender at corners to attack the ball, similar to Calvin Andrew. Plus we defended well last year, but thus far we haven’t recruited much height again.

Matty Done Returns

Yep I can do the history, but think my comments will still apply. 7 years between the 3 of them ain’t a whole lot in my book. Still a fresh faced coaching set up may just work a treat. As I said time will tell and I am open to seeing how it comes together.

Countdown to 9th July…
at 19:10 7 Jul 2025

First: Carlisle at home. Fine out what they have got
Last: whoever is in second place with the title on the line between the two of us

Xmas and New Year’s: Halifax at home, then Alty away.

Important for me being in Essex that Halifax away is on a convenient weekend for me. Never been to the Shay and understand that Halifax I’d a decent watering hole.

Again interesting. We will certainly have one of the most inexperienced management / coaching staff in the NL. As a player I was more of a fan of Done than many on here, but have no idea about his coaching capabilities. Never saw him as one of the the most vocal players when he was here, but that may not have any bearing on his influence moving forward. Time will tell.

French signing incoming?
at 16:18 2 Jul 2025

He could be a very good signing, however I hope he is our last midfield dice roll because it is getting very congested in the midfield area.
Not expecting any more than 2 or possibly three signings. Can envisage this being the last of the shopping until pro’s without a club start to get really twitchy.
Bonjour.

Jason Taylor Joins Coaching Staff as Gibbins Departs
at 16:12 2 Jul 2025

Interesting. Like Jim loads of playing experience but not so much coaching. Didn’t realise how few games he played for us, but shows that in my mind he had a really positive impact. I thought he was super for us, knew when and how to dish it out and never shirked a challenge. He could move the ball as well. Now, I can’t believe he is a carbon copy of Gibbins, who I wish well, so hopeful some blood and thunder will be injected into our midfield.
Welcome back Jason.

Imaginative thinking James. Many people have gone to the financial well at least once to help the club. If the day came when this would be needed I suspect it would be associates of the Ogden family that might step up. Not that that would be a bad thing.

Interesting. Don’t know the lad but Physically he’s nearly 5 10” and has a strong looking neck. I may be clutching a straws but hoping he can be a real physical presence in midfield. Gilmour is very competitive but can sometimes be dispossessed purely by strength. I’ll take another midfielder of course but they need to be different to East, Barlow and Gilmour.
Hoping this lad provides that. Like that he has had a little EFL experience and played for two top 10 teams in the National league.
Happy.
