Eh! Protests of many thousands strong take place in London regularly every year, plus big attendances for state occasions like Trooping The Colour.
There has never and will never be a protest / demo in the name of Hamas as it is rightly a banned organisation. Bugger all to do with the Mayor.

Dale Released List Confirmed
at 16:06 24 May 2025

Real turn around about the value of Hogan. When EEL was first reintroduced the prevailing view was to slaughter JM about the decision not to play Hogan. Now it’s a terrible decision to keep him. His stock has slumped badly in no time no time at all. Or are some people just fickle.
The team had a good defensive record last year, the stats don’t lie. So keeping the two centre halves that played the most games, together with Gordon and Beckwith is logical to me. We are still one of the smallest and least combative midfield/ inside forward teams around. That needs to change ,tbh I think that two of TA, Burger and McBride need to be moved on. That would give us scope to get some quality in. However it’s a million that Jim will list any of the contracted players.

The Hendo news means that a very big rebuild up front is now a more manageable project. Still not easy to find the right man. A hard tackling midfield grafter, preferable with a bit of height ( that sounds like Ethan Hamilton) is the main priority.

Indeed would have been picked up quickly at NL level had we not signed him. I think he has a chance.
However as it stands all our midfield option are lightweights. Including Burger and McBride non of them are a decent height and with the exception of Gilmour non are strong in the challenge. Something has to change in their next season.
But back to the thread, well done Corey, deserved.

St Linaker, what do posters think?
at 09:50 20 May 2025

Sorry but people employed by the BBC receive a pension, but Linaker together with all the other contractors at the BBC don’t. Contractors invariable refer to themselves a self employed, look at the construction industry.
The contractors working with any firm are not subject to the same level of rules, holidays per year for example, or the same appraisal process.
Notice when he finished he use the phrase “working with the BBC” not working for the BBC.

I thought he became quite an accomplished presenter and although he was the equal of any player who worked on MOTD he didn’t try to wear two hats and let the pundits get on with it.
As for his personal political views while I agree with him on most things I wouldn’t dream of sharing them with a large group of people I didn’t know.
As for the impartiality bit, he was a contractor at the BBC and not a member of staff so those rules didn’t apply to him.
Overall for the son of a market greengrocer the boy has done well. Time to kick his heels back and relax.

Scunthorpe and Borehamwood

Glad Borehamwood are back from a selfish perspective. Very easy journey by car for myself. Free carpark right outside the ground. Get there early parked up have a leisurely lunch or tea just up the road.
Scunthorpe that for me ain’t never gonna happen.

Should he stay or should he go?

On any reasonable measures Jim’s job is safe. The Ogden’s are not ignorant when it comes to business. So why when you have an employee who you think was satisfactory and did a job last year, then improves the business the next year after less than 3 years in the role would you dream of sacking them, for lack of productivity. That doesn’t happen, and is Industry Tribunal territory.
If that scenario happened to any of us we would be up in arms.
Said before the large majority of managerial appointments at this club end in failure, some short lived, do the maths. how many mangers have got us promoted or in the play offs, (including the current incumbent) as against those under which we have stagnated or gone backwards. The odds of finding a better fit than the one we have now are not good. No point at all in pulling the pin at this stage.

TVOS Preview - Rochdale v Southend United (Playoffs)
at 09:44 16 May 2025

A great game for the neutrals, but we are Dale fans. When you play well and things go your way and you loose to a team that have posed a threat all game ultimately you have to take it. The alternative is to become bitter and twisted.
Every Southend fan I spoke to before the game predicted Maher would go defensive, wrong. Their press in the first twenty minutes worried me silly. Devante Rodney stepped forward with excellent work and a great finish, but Southend were always in it. For us to have two efforts on goal and score two is almost unheard of.
Gilmour was great (disproving his best form has been when East isn’t in the side)
EEL was a real man at the back
Rodney was very lively and busy defensively (with the muscle he carries never thought I would see him last 120 minutes effectively)
Gordon had a super game and won the correctly awarded penalty
Hendo was very good, dropping deep to move us forward when necessary.
As for the subs I thought EEL had masses on his plate aerially and it made sense to me to bring someone on who was recruited on his ability to win aerial duels.
About a minute before Bird was subbed I remarked he was spent, so no issues with that one.
I actually thought Barlow was less influential last night so could see why he was replaced.
Bottom line is we took part in a sporting event. The team played well, several players excelling themselves but we got beat by a side who offered more for most of the night
I can’t be doing with searching for scapegoats.
Building a new front line and getting some gnarl in midfield are the priorities now.
Looking forward to next season.

I live in Southend and my nephew and brother in law are among those on the supporters coaches heading north.
The family loyalties are split but it is definitely Dale’s turn to make some playoff progress.

Have a safe journey Shrimper.

JM has not had this type of selection headache for a while. The game itself could be dictated by Southend if they park the bus and look for opportunities to counter it could be turgid and slow. If they have a go it could be a cracker. Both teams have been defending well of late. I sense whoever wins the midfield battle will take the spoils, Gilmour could be key for us.
To use the equine term I am a terrible box walker on these big games. For my own health I need us to win by two clear goals, but tbh I’ll suffer and take a crappy 1-0 win.
I can’t be there tonight but I hope all the Dale fans have a great night and give plenty of vocal support.
Good luck lads.

This is getting depressing. Beyond the Jennings, Bohannon and Harris we don’t seem to have any runs in the side. Balderson Hurst (one innings aside) and Wells have all struggled and the tail doesn’t wag. This is far from the expectation for the 4 day game this year.

A nice positive thread and you flush it through with a dollop of negativity. Hope your just having a glass half empty day, and not a glass half empty life.

The Ogden’s are definitely a class act. How lucky we are right now.

You must have youth on your side because imo both Barrow and Buckley were worse. Plus much more recently Stockdale blew a decent budget and did absolutely nothing with it. Look where Chatman and Campbell are now.
Spoke with a Southend fan today and was surprised he wasn’t more upbeat. He said they will simply sit and try and grab a goal out of something. I hope not because that is the worst scenario for us. Come the day the first goal will be vital. He mentioned they only have one fit centre half right now.

Wasted 30 mile journey for the Southend scout. They would have learned more off Wiki.
Both teams are in much better form than when they met in the league. The bookies will make us favourites, and that is right. Just need to take it to them and get the first hurdle out of the way.

Well well, several surprises in the selection. Not least Lazarus Hogan is on the bench and East starting. Nothing silly today please boys.

Erm, not sure about this line up. I have this as a very big game in context of the season, home advantage in the playoffs is an imperative. Was not expecting this many changes from a dominant performance last time.
The bench has depth, but would much prefer to have the strength on the field from kick off. BJ can’t be accused of playing it safe this one safe. Good luck lads.

25/26 Squad
at 13:14 27 Apr 2025

For me whatever happens in the playoffs I thank the squad needs to be revamped for next season. Promotion will mean that McBride,Hogan, Burger, Kelly, TA , Mitchell (who I have been a cheerleader for) and all the loanees will need to go. I could make a case for keeping just Rodney, has some decent league experience, the same for EEL and East. Gilmour could still play a part, while Beckwith is still developing, as is Edward and I think Barlow can play a level above. Gordon and TAR would be unlucky but I wouldn’t keep them. However if we stayed in the National League they can stay., but the others in the first paragraph need to go. A squad that went close the season before rarely do the job the next season.
