I remember being on a supporters club coach to old Trafford (the ‘Redknapp in the stand’ match ) and they had 1 Mrs Browns Boys dvd on a loop all the way there and all the way back . 11 hour round trip because of road works etc Very nearly jumped out the fire exit in the brief moments the coach was moving to end it all . |

Yeah I think Steve Cook will read that first paragraph with raised eyebrows for sure . |

Him going on a free is the major crux of the issues but the Liverpool fans have a real problem with home grown lads leaving the club . Others can come and go as heroes like Barnes, Rush and Dalglish for example . But the likes of McManaman, Owen (even before he played for United) , Gerrard whilst he pondered leaving and now Trent , seemed to be vilified in thinking there is a life away from Anfield. I don’t buy into a lot of the stuff written on this thread but there is a certain arrogance projected for sure . |

Grand Funk in my top 10 for sure . Mel Schacher is the most underrated bass player of all time . |

Lockwood and Challis went on to have very good careers with Orient and Bristol Rovers respectively. I played in the same Rangers youth team as Mark Graham (among others mentioned) and he was a really good attacking left winger . But watching him struggle at left back every week for the 1st team was painful. |

He still has his key cutting shop . In Wallington . Still got a huge pic of himself on the wall from Grange Hill days . Seems a nice chap though |

Yeah I can’t remember the details but yes the conversation wasn’t all that different to now , good people, but tend to fall for the ‘gift of the gab’ every time which has been spelled out many times before . Yes to make clear , you weren’t saying he was the devil , just maybe naive, starstruck and carefree with the finances, which is a pretty fair assessment with the benefit of hindsight . I look back and strangely agree with all of that , so I do wonder why I was so entrenched that I didn’t want to listen to criticism of him at that time . It wasn’t even so much of him , just people worried about the club at that time and was it in competent hands ? And they were right . I do see that similar entrenchment so often now too . As for the OP , if CN can build a dialogue and a trust with H & F then that’s a promising start and long overdue . But with Hoos still Chairman and much more day to day than he was 6-9 months ago , I do wonder if that might be a sticking point going forward . |

Magnificent insight. I don’t know about anyone else, but I just didn’t think stuff like that went on. And that’s very naive and strikes to the heart of Clive’s point that age or experience plays a big part of how you think as you get older . The first time I met Clive was on an Open All R’s podcast many moons ago . I remember Peter Hucker was on the phone during it . I only went on as they want different people like myself (a musician, at the time ) with maybe a different view. But I was not naive in years as I think I’m a fair bit older than Clive but I was naive in experience and knowledge . I was aware to a point of the Paladini / Briatore nonsense but didn’t know the half of it. I spent a lot of that podcast backing Tony Fernandes as I liked him. I thought he was a good guy with good intentions and couldn’t see past that . I didn’t want to see past that if I’m being honest . Clive spent the pod raising his eyebrows and questioning what I was saying . Not in an aggressive way , but just “saying I wouldn’t be so sure “ etc. Moving on people like Finney and moreso people like Steve Sayce would always baulk at why I was arguing about TF. It took a while but in the end I had to take on board that these people had been there and seen it before and had to have a point . I’m a stubborn git but i know when i’m just being stubborn for stubborn sake . In the end I read and i learned and i made my own mind up through knowledge and wanting to listen to people who inevitably knew more than me on subjects . This message board and site actually allow that . We might not agree but we can read and take in different points of view where I’m not sure places like Twitter allow that without being told you’re a …whatever . I do see some that old stubbornness in some , where they are entrenched without wanting to hear another view, but that’s up those and their right to do so . I just think that’s the main difference in why this an older demographics and all power to it. I left Twitter 6 years ago and never ever looked back . |

It’s odd because Celar and Kelman are very similar in style , build , speed and attributes. Both really don’t want to get involved too much until the ball is played into the box . Both completely different to the striker our style of play has required , not just in the first team but watching a little of the Dev squad too. So do we adjust our way of playing slightly to get the best out of a pair of strikers who have potential to know where the goal is at this level, or will we just watch them flounder and seem uninterested according to the club’s ‘methodology’ and be calling them both useless ( I know I was ) after 3 games of next season ? Hate to go over old ground but it brings into question again why Celar was brought in knowing how we were going to play and set up and who made that disjointed decision ? |

Or in 18 months time , the site is sold for housing and the club is being moved to Slough . Hence the long line of neardowells who have flitted in and out for years . Was this always the prime goal ?? Is that pessimistic enough ? 🤣 On a more serious note , politics seems perfect for the spin meister |

So many sticking points as we all know . One is that the pitch doesn’t run parallel with South Africa Road . Any moment or building to do with Bhatia stand or School end and you have to start thinking about re routing / blocking SAR completely. |
