I know I keep banging on about this but our best period of the season in terms of results was 23rd November to 25th January when Colback was either injured or playing only a few minutes. We got 2.15 PPG for those matches (28 points in 13 matches) and 1.22 PPG for the season as a whole. Admittedly we had some easier fixtures then but he really didn't save the day last season. I wholeheartedly agree we need 3 in midfield though and we need a (better) replacement for him.

Do you think so Bazz?

Bit nervous about losing him. Also would be sad to miss out on seeing him develop in his second Championship season. If it's true presumably it's a) a decent offer and hopefully b) we've identified a reasonable replacement. We're already one player light in DM we can't afford to be two players light. And before anybody suggests it Colback is not the answer.

I think you're right but I think you're only going to get that if another club is desperate mid-season. We can't really have Marti hanging around on gardening leave indefinitely. And it's unlikely that any club will pay big bucks at this time of year when there are other managers available.

Yes I agree we're not sustainable, although you confused the point in your PP by alluding to league placements. But how much of Norwich's current finances are down to good previous financial management and how much of ours is down to previous piss poor management?

Also they're not just being judged on turnover but how wisely you spend the money you currently have.

I think I read somewhere though that legallyi t has to come from the other club (FA rules?) not Marti.

Not if you're using league placements as evidence though.

They didn't reach those placements having spent the same money as us.

Our issue is not our current management it's the past where we spunked our Prem and parachute cash money. We're doing okay now given our current income. They didn't spunk their Prem income so they've always got players to sell. But they should be doing better on the pitch IMO.

Yeah but that's misleading as Clive explained. They've probably had £50-!00 million more to spend due to transfer fees accrued and greater income generally. Looks worse then!

I think we need replacements in those roles but not necessarily those two unless very, very cheap! Neither were great last season - both had the odd decent game and the odd stinker, both were overly injured.

I agree with you about Norwich. They love having shiny, exciting front players but don't bother with boring old defenders, at least if their play at LR is representative. Sainz I don't think tracked back once to help his LB who was having a torrid time against Smyth and resorted to wrestling him over in the end!

Burnley skowed how valuable a decent defence is and surely cheaper to assemble. Not saying their strategy hasn't been financially beneficial as it's led to big sell-on fees but not promotion.

If you mean win/scoring incentives I'm not sure that would work either because presumably you don't get those if you're not playing. And frankly I only want him playing if we're desperate.

I don't disagree with your point in general though.

That's true Dave but that nine placement and the following season we literally went for broke and stuffed ourselves for the subsequent two seasons largely on Austin and Johansen so no long term benefit? We also spent £7 million on transfer fees. I obviously don't know whether Warbs wanted any of those players but he certainly had a big budget in QPR terms for his 9th place and 11th place.

I wonder if it's a very low ball offer hence his not accepting it immediately? He'd be okay on third choice money but I doubt he'd want to accept that?

I can understand the wariness, I really can. We're protective of our club and quite rightly. I just think some of what goes on here is way over the top so we can no longer be pleased about anything that goes well in the club so anxious people are to paint it in a negative light in case it's seen to be a win for Nourry. I get what you say about control freaks but arguably men of the people like Chris Wright (selling our training ground to pay for his divorce!) and Tony Fernandes (Sandro, Redknapp, Cesar etc.) can equally be disasters in football.

It would be nice to read a thread that didn't descend into slagging him off for every transfer, club announcement etc.

Also I'm not even sure Ben Williams was that much of a secret: we knew he was working remotely and also had another role. It was a big mistake though, definitely agree with that.

I'm happy to be cautious and keep an eye on things but also some balance!

But when does any fan group know all the facts? Rangers fans still loathe Mark Warburton for walking out on them. He insists he was sacked. How much do we know about Warburton leaving QPR? Or Ainsworth? Or Holloway when he was put on gardening leave? There's always been rumour and counter-rumour in football. We never fully know the facts.

It's true we no longer know the length of players' contracts which I agree is silly because any other club wanting to know would just ask their agents. But many other situations like managers leaving/being sacked we've never known all the facts for both legal and commercial reasons. It's not just a Nourry thing.

Well that's your interpretation based on nothing but your opinion.

I've given reasons for my possible interpretation. Him not having a new gig is your only evidence of anything. I don't know the reason for that and I'm guessing neither do you. But him touting himself around other jobs doesn't seem to support the 'he was definitely staying' theory.

The point is that we're both speculating. I can see why you feel confident expressing your viewpoint as it's a commonly held one. However it's no more 'right' because it's repeated a lot. I thought he was going to leave (and not because he's been forced out) and am not surprised he's gone although before this blew up I wanted him to stay.

I agree it's hard to stand out in a club that appears to be stagnating, which looked like the case from Marti's first to his second season. We know that it was a bit more complex given the injuries we had and the number of inexperienced Championship players. But the table carries a lot of sway. Getting QPR to say top 10 would be an achievement from our perspective but not eye catching. If on the other hand Marti gets a club like WBA to top six level and gets promotion that's a huge leap for him.

I don't get why people think he'd give that up cos he likes LR.
