They've got a very good young LB apparently hence playing RND at CB. |

I agree Brian. There were not enough options from people making runs so our defence/DM ended up turning back/passing to each other. Cook in desperation ended up making some forays himself. We missed Madsen making those passes the others don't see and Saito with his energy and constant showing for the ball. If you're going to rotate him then replace Hayden with Varane. Despite people saying Hayden plays on the half turn and gets us up the pitch I haven't really seen that. He's more similar to Field. Definitely don't play those two together. And if you're forced to, play someone who offers for the ball like Morgan or Saito higher up, not Dembele, and don't play two hold up strikers like Kone and Frey together. But hopefully JS will have learned that and won't repeat that experiment. |

There were several moments when players were not on the same wavelength so it made a decent-looking pass into a terrible one because the player moved at the last second, One in particular to Kone which if he'd held his position would have left him with a decent run into the box but ended up behind him. Frey and Dembele often get in each other's way. Hopefully that'll improve as they play more often together.# |

He's improving match by match. I feared he'd be slow like Morgan Fox as the Sheff U fans complained that he'd lost all his pace after his many injuries, But he's got a definite acceleration when he has to. Shows what happens when you give someone a run of matches in the right position (Sheff U were playing him as a CB). Hopefully some encouragement for JCS. |

I agree. Weird combination. Maybe he wanted Frey and Field to get some minutes but unfair to pair them with Kone and Hayden. It made us too static when we needed to be probing and mobile against a v low block.. Dembele produces occasional moments of magic but doesn't do the basics well enough yet - he can't shield the ball doesn't show for the ball enough and rarely defends. I wonder if he'd be a better late sub. We looked better when the subs came on but couldn't put enough good passes together to break through. But we're still unbeaten in a while so not bad overall. |

Hell yeah! There's an awful lot of firefighting to be done for Marti devotees on there atm... |

Yes. So weird how everyone seems to be cancelling everyone else out. I'm surprised as I thought the parachute teams plus the big spenders (Wrexham, Birmingham etc.) would make the play offs almost impossible to amyone else. Pleased so far that it's more achievable. Meanwhile how did Ismael get the Blackburn gig? Great Powerpoint? |

And up he pops. Barely saw you during our three-win spell. Just recently to say Norrington-Davies wasn't very good, Vale was just a hair transplant and we were sh it against Sheff Wed. Now on the JCS injury thread. Incredibly supportive as ever. |

I'm not sure if we should have banned you after that record... I've really enjoyed the last couple of trips there. Hope we make a decent effort whatever happens. |

Oh yeah Let's have all the Nourry out posts again from all the Mystic Megs on here. Cos that's absolutely hilarious... |

Especially as 8 of the top ten teams drew in their last match. I'm sure they could all forensically analyse how they should have won and point out failures in tactics, team spirit, consistency etc. but in reality we all have to expect the team will have off days. |

And shouting four every time the Europeans are going off the tee even when the ball ends up in the middle of the fairway. |

Yep all interviews with sports people are identical. They all have to work hard, play for the team, be humble, focus and think the coach is the bees knees. When was the last time anyone said post-match that their performance was the difference, or that their goalie is rubbish with his feet or that they loathe their teammates? Hardly worth conducting them. |

Maybe Marti did it because he likes it: he's seemingly playing in a similar style at Leicester. Maybe Stephan started out with it because players were coming into the squad and we didn't have much pace which is pretty vital for fast transition. Now we've got Burrell, Mbenge, Saito and Smyth it suits our playing style better. I know that doesn't fit with the Nourry as puppeteer theory but Stephan seems to be quite confidently playing that way and the recruitment seems to have facilitated it. |

I think it's to do with possession stats. We move the ball quickly but don't hold onto it. Ipswich move it quickly upfield but have more possession. Leicester has low possession but builds slowly. Coventry have high possession AND move it quickly. |

I thought you or someone else probably had postd it before Clive. Just interesting to revisit now we know a bit more about him. Couldn't agree more re the recruitment and playing style. The article also emphasised his adaptability which I hope will stop us becoming too predictable as with e.g. Warbs. |

The Watford game is a silly one to judge anyone long term based on that performance: a host of injuries, a thin squad, a DS CM as right back, a newly signed CB as LB, an out of form Sam Field and Steve Cook, an unfit/injured Chair, a sub-par Dembele, a new goalie and a new striker finding their feet in a new league and a new manager learning about his players and a new division. Nor the Coventry debacle. As for Oxford away I'm happy that he produced the assist that led to a vital first goal. I don't think the efforts he's making defensively are so universal: Dozzell and Iroegbunan were always going missing. So what if he didn't show for the original ball against Wrexham, he got the assist FFS. He may not be a combination of Sam Field and Dembele quite yet but nor are Sam Field or Dembele. He is clearly working hard at his game, improving and contributing to the team. Expecting him to be Barry Bannen is farcical. |
