Or maybe he didn't. Maybe not everything that clip clops is a zebra, sometimes it's a horse.

That was totally because they worked out early on that they could play that ref and had no respect for him. He created that himself by falling for all their tricks.

I’d have loved it if he’d given him a second yellow mind you!

Possibly but part of your job as a manager is keeping the players with you. If he’s not winning them over then he’s not doing his job. Also they’re saying he’s promised to prioritise youth players but then not playing any of them. I can see why they’re frustrated.

Would you entrust him with building a new team when he isn’t doing much at all with the current one?

But they’re right they’ve been underperforming. They were poor against Hull which is the game I saw recently. Reportedly the players aren’t playing for him - particularly the more high value players like Winks. From accounts he’s playing quite a negative passing game around the penalty boxes which sounds quite familiar.

You’d just expect them to be doing better than 10th with the most highly paid squad in the league. They’ve also got a probable points deduction coming so it’s making it increasingly more difficult to make automatic promotion and you can see why they’d expect to be at least challenging for that with the squad he’s got at his disposal.

Kolli and Bennie from memory haven’t been great against very physical, low block kind of teams; they just get pushed around. I’m not sure if Esquerdinha isn’t available for some reason as he hasn’t featured at all after some promising performances. Morgan might have been a good replacement yesterday(not at LB obviously) as we definitely needed someone with some energy who would show for the ball.

I think Stephan is still learning about the Championship and he makes some mistakes that we know are mistakes because we know the players better and how some matches like this are likely to go. I think it’s going too far to say it reflects badly on our youth policy. We’re still a very young team and I can see why he wants some balance between youth and experience. TBH I don’t think it was generally our older players that had poor performances, apart from the Nardi error.

I agree Vale was poor again. I understand he’s learning to play in a much more physical, pressurised kind of match than he’s used to but it’s also something Stephan needs to adapt to: what are his horses for courses. Also I was completely mystified by the Dembele sub. The game was crying out for Smyth’s ratting, annoying in-your-face kind of play rather than Dembele’s flashes of genius but too lax with the ball and lesser than physical presence. Alternatively bring Morgan on: what he brings is intensity and energy which we could desperately have done with given how limp our overall display was.

I think Kone maybe needs a break. He looks absolutely knackered. He gets an absolute battering day in day out. Madsen also looked tired but a week’s break should help that plus Chair coming on to provide some creativity.

Burrell also needs to adapt to the Championship. You have better defenders and less time on the ball so you need to make the most of good opportunities. He had two golden chances: one when he was in acres of space on the right hand side near the half way line and he just hesitated for a couple of seconds before taking off with the ball which are the fine margins that allow their defenders to get back in time. The other was on the left just outside the penalty area in the first half when someone did a run, space opened up and he inexplicably turned back and passed behind him. Not slagging him off as I think he was one of our best players yesterday but noting some things he could improve on that are perfectly understandable given his lack of experience at this level.

I think Eustace outthought us yesterday. He managed to neutralise our strengths. It was also a demonstration of how to play inexperienced referees. How often did they win dubious free kicks while under pressure by screaming every time we did any kind of tackle. One in particular near us in our left hand corner by the penalty area where the huge blond fella went down screaming while under pressure, won a very soft free kick and turned to us and gave a massive grin. They were pushing us and holding on to our shirts but they did it much more subtly and really he was going to let a lot go in front of a massive home crowd.

It was also a demonstration of how you can’t be too ‘nice’ in football whether you like it or not because other teams will just use it against you. There are such fine margins between teams in terms of quality so it doesn’t take much to gain a competitive advantage. Playing the ref is one of those ways teams do it, we can’t be the only team that doesn’t.

Another stat is that Derby are rock bottom of the table for the first half (points gained if you stopped at 45 minutes and fourth for the second half so we’d do well to score in the first half and nullify them somewhat. We’re 14th and third respectively.

Yes that’ would be really interesting to know more about that. How hard is it to get a loan for our players? Do we get any leverage about how much match time they’ll get. Are there some positions that are easier to place than others? Who arranges the loans? What’s the thinking about the benefits of loans from the professionals- for instance is it good to get any kind of men’s football or are the club only interested in clubs that play more technical football?

They have to be GOOD ENOUGH. If they play and we lose then everyone will rant about results being sacrificed for the ‘project’. As I said before we’re playing youngish players who could be worth something - Burrell, Kone, Esquerdinha and Saito are hardly pensioners….I think we’ve got one of the youngest squads in the league. But it’s also a massive jump from DS to Championship level.

I saw Tuck play for the Premier Cup final and thought he looked really promising. Then I saw him play for Hampton and Richmond and he looked a bit out of his depth tbh. He needs game time against men, as does Sutton and the others. Otherwise they’re just too naive to play in the Championship. Morgan looks more like he’s ready but even he would benefit from a League 1 or 2 loan. Is Kolli willing to go out on loan? If so three months of men’s football would benefit him.

I think the mistake is made when they don’t go out on loan. Think how Joe Walsh would be a better player if he’d played more matches. He’s hardly played over the last couple of years. How can that help his development.

I trust Stephan to make these decisions. He’s got a lot of experience developing young players and most importantly he knows what goes on behind the scenes. We only know he said/she said and whispers from ITKs

QPR's road warriors sink ten-man Swans - Report

I don’t like it either way but I don’t want to be the only team that doesn’t try and get decisions to go for us and then lose more often than we should because the balance of decisions goes against us.

The thing is that refs don’t give penalties unless the player goes down. They often don’t book a player or give a penalty unless there’s an uproar. Until we get better officials we’re mad to be the only ones playing the ‘right way’. Nathan Jones, Alex Neill and I’m betting Frank Lampard would all tell their teams to wind certain players up to get them booked, sent off etc. Or keep the ball out of play when you’re 2-1 up and going into extra time (remember Millwall).

As for head butting a player I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone not go down in that situation. If Cook had done that to the other guy we’d have blamed him for being an idiot and giving the ref a decision to take. We might not like it any more than we like a lot of things in football but we can’t completely rise above it and compete in a level playing field.

Qpr fans online seriously !!

There’s a difference though between ‘we need to improve our passing and be more clinical in our finishing’ to we need to bin Sam Field, it’s not good enough, we were poor etc.

The former is fair enough but the latter more appropriate to a shellacking at Coventry (though even then I wouldn’t blame just one player.

I also think there’s a difference between those who regularly watch on a stream and come to the occasional match and those who are historic fans who haven’t watched us in years. The latter tend to be far more results biased and not future focused because they’re not really invested in the club or the players, they just want the dopamine hit for a win or fulminating online.

Obviously there’s also a difference in going to games as you see the work off the ball and the skill of some of the passing better but in terms of overall reactivity online there’s a third category.

Technically he's definitely improved: how he goes in for a tackle or up for a header just looks a better body shape. He'd improved towards the end of last season but really noticed the technical changes this season. Also I notice he looks arouhd him to see his options and how much time he has just as the ball is coming to him - something the better players do.

Oh god yes. That and his refusal to admit he got it wrong first time round. He'll double down despite us seeing his mistake with our own eyes on the replay (which he sees too).

In brighter news good to see Jamie Mackie promoted to the Champions League Sky Sports panel. Talks a lot less waffle than Clinton Morrison.

One thing that occurs to me: as a team we're not that used to success. Even the new guys that came in played for clubs that were struggling. Our more experienced QPR players have been largely fighting to stay in the division for the last few seasons.

I'm relatively optimistic as Rs fans go and even I'm waiting for it all to go down the plughole: match by match and overall in the league. What we haven't really had yet and which would break the spell somewhat is a really comprehensive couple of wins. Ones where we never really look in trouble and we score those goals we're currently missing. Imagine winning that game 4-0, which isn't unrealistic, then a workmanlike 2-0 at Derby; we start to believe we're a decent side and the next match we go in much more confident, we don't faff so much and we don't drop deep when we're ahead.

Just a thought but confidence is so massive in sport as is a winning mentality.
