international breaks.....hate them
at 22:53 5 Oct 2025

i think they may have started to happen when managers like Alex Ferguson for some England games refused to allow certain players to join up on England duty if selected.

Probably was a result of such things thus the international breaks started.

At least both times we have gone in on the back of a fabulous win. So two weeks of up beat training sessions for those players that have remained here.

Think a couple of wonder strikes for the first team and he could kick on , however as we have such strength in depth, his opportunities could be limited in the very near future.

Hopefully it works out for him. Another player i feel needs the confidence boosters to perform at the levels he undoubtedly could achieve, but absolutely hasnt as yet.

Coventry

i did actually put a bet on Coventry at the start of the season at 14 to 1. Just a tenner. Wish i had been a bit more bold, though now.

Thought Lampard had got them running very smoothly up and running last season. Was it a last minute goal from Sunderland that knocked them out or penalties. Just remember it being incredibly late.

But yes outstanding goal scoring currently. Scoring goals for fun.

His management career well and truly on track now.

Julien Stéphan, I mean, come on...
at 12:02 5 Oct 2025

I understand what you are saying but it appears now before that he was simply testing out his own ideas, playing the way we had done previously.

I personally didn't think his tenure started with Nourry calling all the shots. Stephan trying to find his own way, and worked out after Coventry the original way wasn't working well so changed things. But only thought this, from now myself.

I myself anyhow also wondered at that time whether he was a BIBS and CONE man, but Nourry did contradict himself, he said at fans forum, all, football decisions were down to Stephan. Nourrys waffle tied himself up in knots. Something I sometimes get charged with, which hold my hands up too.

I just think with benefit of hindsight that am certain he was in charge of playing style from the off.

Wasn't calling out any posters or even our esteemed leader, as after Coventry was thinking the exact same thing myself.

The Effects of a Winning Weekend
at 11:31 5 Oct 2025

The feel good vibes created by a win and a decent performance resonates throughout my weekend amd even though, like most, am totally on edge throughout most of our games, get the boost of the nice endorphins for a few days.

Life seems so much better, even when life is a challenge, its more easily experienced when the Rangers win !!!

Fricking ball of despair when we are dreadful though.

Anyone else managing better this weekend with your nice "big win" endorphins ???

And yes its apparent that Nourry has been in the background more since Coventry.

I think Christian for the things that he has been involved with has achieved a reasonable job in improving our club, the youth set ups etc.

However the football side is most definitely a job for the football people employed for these seasons and am glad that is the case still.

Nourry committed a bit of an own goal in the fans forum by tying himself up in knots a little but with the recruitment side of things - managers, players and youth prospects, definitely see a lot of work gone into that. He is fine to tell us about the logistical side of the club but very pleased to see that the manager makes all the decisions etc regarding selection and game management and to be fair to Nourry, he did say this at the fans forum about Stephan.

One thing, would say about criticising Les in comparison with Nourry, most of his seasons we have had zero money to spend, because getting the humongous wage bill down allowed no money for transfers.

This particular window, we have had several three and four million signings, which we never had that luxury during Les's tenure. Mainly due to the Eze money finally coming in, but do agree the money we have actually spent, has been excellent, in that we have got these players for very decent prices and sold our club so well, as several of these players were being pursued by multiple other clubs and some a lot higher up the food chain than our good selves.

But the profiles of the players and managers all add up to the team and squad as much improved.

And regarding Stephan again, he does seem to have had an ability especially with the younger players of getting more out of every single one of them.

Let's see where it all goes. Things can change so quickly, but definitely decent all round for many levels within the club...

One hundred percent not a BIBS and CONE man, as was initially thought by many.!!

Burrell - who identified / signed him?

Love him.

Pace and power intimidated the opposition. If he can find a better finish - what a player for us. After what seems like decades without strikers - two at once.

Mein Gott !!!

COOK
at 08:47 5 Oct 2025

Was at the Oxford game, and it was a very frustrating watch, but the one major positive in that game was Cook.

I had previously been concerned - excuse the pun - that Cook was cooked !!

But was delighted to see a great performance that day. And yes, for me is a current starter, definitely.

With Chair and Poku coming back, Vale, Smyth and Saito doing well, and would also currently have Kolli ahead of him, i doubt he will make even the bench for a period, even if we revert to three behind a lone striker.

There is definitely a player there, a la Madsen. Hope somehow, we get to see him improve. Some of the goals in pre season were top drawer.

Madsen
at 22:12 4 Oct 2025

Have to say its very impressive form from Madsen this season.

The Oxford game, field and hayden were solid but creativity wasn't a dish on the menu.

Basically when he receives the ball, he is instantly aware of a quick pass to make and often makes an incisive pass that creates space and the move can progress from there.

Other midfielders for ourselves have rarely possessed such a quality, so its refreshing to see.

He does seem to complement the different types of skills Varane can offer, also.

One of several success stories under Stephan...

Kone - can he hit a ball with power
at 20:07 4 Oct 2025

What a hit !!

its called leathering the ball into the roof of the net.

Emphatic !!!

Always makes a goal sweeter when it threatens to break through the back of the net.

No finer compliment than it was Les - esque !!

Was thinking the same.

i personally would switch to three behind Burrell with Smyth Vale and Saito behind

Kone been looking jaded and cant see Dembele offering anything in both forward moves and defensive structure also.

if still no joy can see Kolli getting a run out today.

Disturbing on so many levels Danny but if you can play, you are on the bench today.

Either that or the local constabulary are in your area very soon !!!

He is clearly a talent.

His first half of his first game, i thought wow, how is this boy at QPR.

Sadly, the high point of his QPR career so far.

i think maybe he is a player that needs a bit of love.

Pre season he was our best performer. Some great strikes but he seems to be underwhelmed with his goal celebrations. And he is a player who is not in the game often.

For me, i see very much Chris Willock vibes, but he has yet to have any regular periods of brilliance as yet. i know i shouldn't say this as he is a young player still, but i dont think he will achieve what he should and even if he does have some qualities, its not happening here.

For me, Saito, Vale, Chair ahead of him currently. Smyth has more impact and Kolli will be more of a success in the future than Dembele.

What i would say is Dembele has the potential to be the best baller of all of these, which after my previous assessment is nuts.

Am aware Madsen currently has turned things around but you could almost see he was angry with himself and knew he could do much better. i dont see this with Dembele because he doesnt seem to want it enough...

It appears he loses interest in games like he would prefer to be somewhere else. Think he is a player that needs a lot of management to keep focussed.

Hope he proves me wrong, because i cant see it happening with this boy.

Thanks so far for all the recommendations

Knew asking on here, would be better than a google search.

Intrigued but also slightly sceptical around exactly how important it is or isnt as the case maybe.

if it could give me the winner of the 3.30 at Haydock also that would be even better !!

Oxford Utd Reflection

Not only on here Clive.

Often felt on many occasions at a QPR game, the club is providing a service for the vulnerable.

Frustrations of a bad week, whether its at home or at work and Queens Park Rangers performances allow et al to vent and cuss at all and sundry and then they go home all prepped and ready for the next week ahead.

The very first game i went to with my dad, saw an Irish man getting more and more blood red vessels emanating from face, limbs etc and halfway through the second half he propelled his rain sodden overcoat from South Africa Road stand over the edge and onto the paddocks to show his outrage at the game.

it got things out of his system, i assume ...

"Dad, .why did that man do that ??"

"i dunno, son."

Know there are some on here, well versed in this aspect of modern sports.

i am weirdly intrigued by this particular topic.

Anyone got any places on the net or decent books that can explain a lot of this trickery in plain English.

its very much part of modern sport and i think we possibly could be one of the clubs that has seemingly gone over to the dark side with this, more than most, in our recruitment policies and attempts to build a balanced squad.

Its interesting and i think it has its place today but as seen by going back to basics. Two big men up top, one that is fast and one that can finish, it often negates all, anyhow.

Yes but any online links or recommendations. Am interested enough to try to learn and understand more...

And then in a couple of years, will be emailling my QPR CEO / DOF / HEAD COACH / KIT MAN / THERAPIST / STRATEGISTS / PERFORMANCE DIRECTOR applications in.

Seriously though, do have an interest so any links, book recommendations etc be appreciated..
