Swansea City v Queens Park Rangers : Match day thread UPDATED
at 22:53 22 Oct 2025

That was a disappointing, lacklustre showing from us tonight. We looked predictable and lethargic in and out of possession but certainly lacked creativity pace and movement

But talk of sacking the manager now is absolute nonsense. Our points per game ratio since he was appointed last season is very good, considering our situation at that time.

QPR surprised me. They were well drilled and deserved the win. A decent team to be fair.

That’s of course debatable isn’t it. Of course they helped to “ save the club “ and then helped it prosper.
It’s unlikely though to say the least that it wouldn’t have survived. It’s irrelevant now.

But he turned into Billy Big Bollox and got rather carried away. He made some good decisions but there’s a lot of good fortune involved in football. And a lot of bad luck. Then there’s a way to treat the people who have given you so much support over many years. Then there’s the Jenkins way.

It’s only my opinion but he’s completely undone the good work he did for 10 years or so ….

Southampton v Swansea City : Match day thread (UPDATED)
at 11:32 19 Oct 2025

On the balance of play that was a 0-4 defeat. I’m still unsure how they managed to fluke a 0-0. Big improvements needed everywhere really except in goal where Vigoroux is excelling. But overall a decent enough first ten games with lots of promise.

Russell Martin - Rangers ...
at 22:24 6 Oct 2025

Dear god. Grown men ( presumably ) repeating the same old boring nonsense about a former manager who is a thoroughly decent fella. It’s a short life chaps. Certainly not worth spending most of it posting rubbish on a football forum about someone that you don’t know. I can’t understand it. He worked hard at our club and did his best. We had some good times when he was here at Swansea and some not so good. It hasn’t worked out at Rangers and he’s lost his job. It’s football. Get a life chaps. It’s too trivial to be concerned about.

Who do you want in fourth round of the league cup?
at 21:36 24 Sep 2025

I had a dream last night that it’s Tottenham away. “ In the League Cup there came Tottenham who were lucky to draw the game so therefore for the replay we went to White Hart Lane… “

But it’s 15/2 odds that it’ll be a Welsh Club and that would do nicely.

Swans best ever comebacks to win a game.
at 09:44 19 Sep 2025

Yes I was at that game as well. It was a fourth division game. Didn’t we do the same against Rotherham ?

In the context of being 2-0 down to a Premier league club and then 2-1 down on 93 minutes to win it that will take some beating. Probably our best come back in history imo. And I was there with my son and grandson which made it even more special.

Swans best ever comebacks to win a game.
at 18:59 18 Sep 2025

The win last night. For me it was our best ever. To over turn a lost cause that is.

Are there any others in our history that can match or better it in terms of retrieving a lost cause to beat a Premier League team especially that was packed with talent even on the subs bench ?

Alli had a seriously tough childhood. But worked hard as a young professional
player to earn himself more than 30 England caps and become a top
performer in the Premier League. His career has nosedived but at 29 he’s capable of becoming an accomplished player once again. Apparently he now has mental health issues and is struggling to keep his career on track but if he can regain his confidence and match fitness then he’s well worth considering dependent on salary requirements and terms.

Russell Martin - Rangers ...
at 11:58 29 Aug 2025

Russell Martin certainly divides opinion but it’s plainly inaccurate to describe him as “ incapable and deluded “.

At Rangers FC now, we all know how weak the Scottish League is and it’s arguable that the best clubs there are not good enough to play in the EFL Championship. Possibly they are League One level. So it’s not a surprise to see Rangers lose to Brugge. It’s the Rangers club and it’s entitled supporters that are in fact deluded. Martin is well aware of their limitations.

Martin has a reputation for over playing. He knows that modifications are required but he’s trying to get his teams to play in a certain way and when it works it’s a joy to watch. He did quite well here and a club record unbeaten league run of twenty plus games at Southampton says a lot. He’s stubborn undoubtedly but he’s right to question the attitude of highly paid players. He is under pressure already but good luck to him.

Grimsby were very good in the first half. It reminded me of our win against West Ham in 1999 when they were a top Premier Leafue side including the likes of Rio Ferdinand Frank Lampard Neil Ruddock and John Hartson . We were the first fourth tier club to knock out a Premier league club then. It showed that passion, crowd support at its best and a less then committed bunch of over paid stars can be brought down. I’d exclude Harry McGuire from that as he was superb. Cup football at its finest to be fair.

Fifa Club World Cup
at 12:45 13 Jul 2025

The World Club Cup is an excellent concept and no doubt it’ll be one of the biggest things in football with gradual progression. But it needs to ensure that the best teams are there. After all there’s a good argument to suggest that the best clubs will be better than the best countries. As money can buy success as we have seen, a Saudi club in time for example could become the best in the world.

It’s interesting to see the different styles, standards and expectation from around the world playing against each other competitively and with big money at stake. The World Cup for countries is one of the biggest sporting events in the world alongside the Olympics. It wasnt like that when it started around 100 years ago. The World Club Cup can rival that in time. When the best teams are there and it gathers momentum it’ll happen. People tend not to like change. With an inability and/ or unwillingness to think outside the box consequently.

Rob Page becomes Liverpool U21s head coach ...
at 20:10 27 Jun 2025

Is that the World Cup campaign that Page got us to the Finals of? For the first time in how many years?

Playing his mates? That’s such an idiotic and ill informed remark. If you’re referring to Gareth Bald Joe Allen and Aaron Ramsey then it was of course worth taking a chance on them. And they deserved the opportunity to play in the Finals. It wasn’t to be but fair to play to him for getting Wales there.

Best of luck to Page going forward. He’s a good guy.

Ok then Einstein what would you suggest is the best alernative? And would you de the same qualification criteria for football and other sports?

I’m more concerned that this was just a friendly which has been marketed into something that it’s clearly not and people are easily pleased and led.

The problem with the system is that, apart from being completely unfair and not rewarding the best teams, it allows a club who are ill equipped to get into the biggest league in world football to do just that.

As for allowing a club in 7th into the play offs that only makes it worse. Averaging only1.5 points a season shouldn’t enable a club to get anywhere near to promotion but that’s what’s happening unfortunately.

It might well be a money spinner and it keeps the interest going for lots of clubs but it’s unfair. The purpose of a league table is to judge which are the best and worst teams throughout a season. Sheffield were the 3rd best team finishing with 90 points and 28 wins from their 46 games at 1.96 per game. That’s an excellent season albeit they were disappointed with their April form. They then wiped the floor with Bristol 6-0 over two games but missed out to Sunderland who finished a whopping 14 points behind them.

Teams like Bristol Blackburn Swansea Sheff Weds weren’t good enough to get into the play offs / Premier league. But they could have ….thats simply a pile of bollox to use a technical term .

Failed badly?

Thats unfair and inaccurate. In Europes most competitive league they finished in 3rd place and only behind a very good Leeds team and Burnley who were almost impossible to
score against.

The play off system is a nonsense really. It gives a team who finish 20 points ( for example ) behind another club the chance to be promoted ahead of them. Can you imagine if Bristol City had gone up? Sheffield did well to finish in 3rd but it’s Sunderland who didn’t do as well who get the plaudits and promotion. It’s a funny old game …

Nations League Final tonight
at 07:50 9 Jun 2025

An outstanding game of football of the highest quality. And the perfect illustration of how the game should be played. Defenders comfortable and patient in possession and happy to play it out from the back. And then get forward quickly themselves. Forwards with pace trickery and bravery. Both sides trying to dominate the ball in possession terms which Spain one whilst putting pressure on the ball and quickly when out of possession. A Martinez masterclass as Portugal did mix it up a bit although Spain were unlucky as they created more goal attempts (16v9).
